PRESS RELEASE: ENVE

Through an expansion of a strategic partnership with American hub manufacturer Industry Nine, we are proud to announce that the benchmark-setting M Series carbon mountain wheel line is now available with Industry Nine’s all new 101 hubs at an MSRP of $2100.

The addition of Industry Nine 101 hubs to the lineup means that upgrading to proven ENVE M Series rim technologies - such as Wide Hookless Bead and Protective Rim Strip, is easier than ever before.

So if you’re looking for a new carbon wheelset and want to squeeze every ounce of value out of your hard earned dollars, here’s why ENVE + I9 101 can’t be beat.

Why ENVE M Series

● 5 Year Warranty and Lifetime Incident Protection- In reality, warranties are nice, deliver piece of mind, and allow you to rest assured that we’ve got your back. But with ENVE, the technologies in the new M Series means you’re more unlikely to ever need to use it and here’s why:

● Wide Hookless Bead (M5 and M6 Series) and Protective Rim Strip (M7 and M9 Series) are two proprietary technologies that are the result of more than 12 years of carbon mountain wheel development. We’ve learned, while obvious as it may seem, that broken carbon rims are more likely when you attempt to ride your wheels with flat tires. Flat tires that are a result of pinch flatting. Sure, our rims can take that kind of beating, but with ENVE, we’ve evolved beyond that point. Our anti-pinch flat technologies promise to eliminate the dreaded pinch flat, protecting your rim, tires and ride time without the extra cost, weight, and complexity of cumbersome tire inserts or the compromised ride of over inflated tires.

● Made in the USA- Sure, just because something is made in the US doesn’t inherently guarantee its quality. But any product bearing the ENVE name does - regardless of where it is manufactured. Ultimately, we are riders making the products we want to ride. Made in the USA means we get to try more concepts, tune more laminates, make more prototypes, and deliver a better ride experience overall. If you need to use our Warranty or have a question about your wheel, tire or bike set up, we’re a phone call away.

Why Industry Nine 101

● Made in the USA - 101 hubs are machined, anodized, and assembled in Industry Nine’s Asheville, NC headquarters and manufacturing facility. Our ability to source hubs from another US brand streamlines our supply chain and eliminates costly import duties, ensuring more performance for the dollar to you.

● High engagement hubs in an innovative package -The all new I9 101 hub features leading engagement and durability without compromising quality and long term reliability

○ 90 Points of Engagement with 4 Degrees of Engagement

● 2 Year Manufacturer Warranty - 101 hubs are covered under Industry Nine’s Alloy Product Warranty

The M Series paired with I9 101 hub sets are now shipping. Please contact your local ENVE Ride Center, Authorized Retailer, or ENVE Customer Service for more information.

I wish I could 10x upvote this very non-Canadian response, both for its sarcasm and accuracy! Well played sir!
  • 64 3
@ruffrider21: excuse me we Canadians are both accurate and VERY sarcastic, we are just more polite about our sarcasm and less celebratory regarding our accuracy.
  • 30 1
We Are One is the new benchmark for carbon wheels, Enve is hooped !
  • 21 0
Mmmmm yes, to add to the price and warranty:
ENVE M730 - 536 grams, 32 hole
WeAreOne Agents - 485 grams, 32 hole

I save money, get a better warranty, lighter wheels, for less than half the price of the Enves?! OR I can save about $500 and get WeAreOne's newer The Union wheelset with i9 Hydra hubs, a lifetime warranty, 475 grams, all for $1625.

You go Enve.
  • 44 0
Even Santa Cruz Reserve's with I9's are $1,900. When you're announcing a new value-priced product and you come in on the wrong side of freaking SC, you know you've messed up big time.

Also, if you want Hydras, you can get WAO's new rims with those for $1,625.

I don't know what kind of black magic WAO uses to hand-make rims in BC with one of the best warranties in the industry, and consistently undercut multi-national corporations outsourcing their labor to countries with cheap labor. But god bless 'em.

I just went to the WeAreOne site. The wheelsets are $1700 not $1000. I used The Convert Rim/I9's regular spokes, it's $1695
  • 13 0
@ShredlyMcShredface: You are looking at the wrong ones, the WA1 Revolution (ie: Convert) w/ I9 Hydra hubs are better, so cost more. The WA1 Movement wheelsets w/ I9 101 hubs are the comparable set to these Enve w/ I9 101 hubs

I down voted by accident sorry bro.

But they said theirs are unbeatable! Give it up ENVE.

@bomadics: I like it no matter what!!!! Need to spend more time up north for some many reasons! This racks on one more.
  • 1 0
@tgent: Rad. I have to say I wasn't familiar with WAO. Just checked out their site--really nice stuff. Will definitely be on my short list.
  • 3 0
I wonder when they will release their first bike?
  • 2 0
@ruffrider21: dude you gave me the set up I had to take it, so no worries, and if you make it to the Island look me up!

You inhabit an excellent neighbourhood for riding as well!
  • 2 0
@ColinFerguson: I've been riding mine for about a year and are absolutely bomb proof. Zero problems and the best wheels money can buy.
  • 1 0
Yep... thats why I run We Are One Composites stuff. Plus WAO's quality seems to be better. Just look at the Enve E-Bike wheel review.

This is just getting to the point of being satire. Enve is literally writing the material for us to make jokes with. How is this even a thing?
  • 6 1
 @CarlMega:

Nailed it! They are in reality probably not so bad stuff..... but the marketing negative aura now surrounding Enve is simmilar to Elsworth and most of the general public will not buy Enve :
1. because of high price ("value" at 2100$?? WTF)
2. and/or marketing f*ckups - which is very hard reversible (probably unreversible for anyone more than semi-knowledged MTB-ers)

Solutions for ENVE:
- sell carbon wheels at ALU prices (even biggest negativists will be persuaded by this)
- change everything about marketing (people, teams, brand name etc..)

Otherwise you are convicted to lifeless stagnation - just contact Elseworth and Brian Lopes for experience Smile

"and want to squeeze every ounce of value out of your hard earned dollars"

They have employed a troll in the marketing department.
  • 26 3
This is cheaper than regular enve wheels, right? I mean, once you're forking over the price of a YT for a set of wheels, the prices all sorta run together for me.
  • 12 1
I wouldn't say cheaper. More like "less expensive".
  • 25 4
“Benchmark setting” - Enve start making quality rims, lower your mark up by at least 60%, stop talking bullsht.
  • 18 0
It seems like the people who would spend that much money on wheels, wouldn't keep their bikes for more than 5 years.
  • 18 0
probably the bet that enve is counting on
  • 1 0
 @adrennan: touche
  • 7 1
Has the mtb industry ever gone >5 years without a hub spacing change that requires a new wheelset?
  • 17 1
ENVE is tanking, hard. Desperate times call for desperation. Lifetime. 5 year. Cheaper. What’s next?

At least try and go to market with a cohesive competency. This is all over the place. Who is running ENVE these days?
  • 7 0
A bunch of scared reactive monkeys.
  • 5 0
I'd be curious to know how much of their revenue is generated from road compared to mtb. I'd guess mtb is something like 20% compared to road.
  • 5 0
@scottrap: yeah, I think road is a much bigger segment for them.
  • 1 0
What is that supposed to mean? ENVELOPE envision themselves as the luxury brand of rims, so they can price them however they want because people still buy them believing they’re getting the very best. And maybe that’s ok?
  • 16 0
ChooooChoooo get on the bandwagon! Free pitchforks with every post!
  • 12 1
I simply can’t wait to not buy these!
  • 7 0
I think it’s time to close the doors on ENVE mtb division. Rebrand and reassess their priorities. They should keep themselves as a small component company like Oneup has.
  • 4 0
I think ENVE made a good move hitching its wagon to I9. The customer service at I9 is five-star, and they stand behind their products. That said, I9’s aluminum rims are really stiff and light, and I would probably go that route for wheels of I’m getting I9 hubs.
  • 9 5
 $2100 for an ENVE wheelset
$1975 for a Trust Performance fork
$4075 wheelset and fork
It would look really good on my lambo roof rack!
MTB used to be a sport. It's looking like your financial status now.
This sucks the big one!!!!!!!
  • 10 0
And yet no one has ever denied me trail access for not having the latest and greatest. Let people spend their money on their hobbies, we will all benefit from used gear and technological trickle down.
  • 3 0
Still is a sport. Every participant sport has posers, hardcore and everything in between. Many riding the very top are posers to a degree, yet many running top end stuff can out shred majority of the comment section of Pinkbike any day of the week. Some of this stuff nuts with pricing? Of course....but let those guys buy the crazy $$ stuff so industry can have more resources and designs further down the product lines.
  • 5 2
with enve getting onboard with the "no questions asked" replacement thing, the only real question is how long of a turn around time is it for a new wheel/rim? do they make you go through a shop or work directly with the consumer?
  • 53 6
When the marketing department doesn’t communicate with the marketing department. Last week « lifetime warranty ». This week « 5-year warranty ».

So. Embarrassing. This company is a disaster.
  • 23 4
Stop asking questions. Their policy has nothing to do with them not asking questions, it has to do with you not asking questions.
  • 8 5
The turn around has been an average of 1 week for me. The down time is no issue for me since I take the stock wheels off right away and save them for when I break mine. And no, you do not have to go through a shop. All you have to do is contact them online/email or a quick call to get the help you need. You'll need to provide a pic of damage, proof of purchase and S/N. Super simple process and the people that work there are extremely friendly. Can't recommend them enough.
  • 35 1
@ProChargedZ28: lol you have to keep the stock wheels for when you break them
  • 12 3
@russthedog: forget about it, when you buy Enve you must brainwash yourself so much that you are making a right decision, that anything will make sense.
  • 2 5
@russthedog: I always keep the stock wheels even if I replace with any other brand. This includes spank wheels
  • 11 4
@ProChargedZ28: the issue with Enve is that you do need a spare wheelset. If you owned A wheelset equipped with dt/hope hubs and dt/spank rims, you’d be much less likely to require any form of customer support.
  • 4 5
@WAKIdesigns: I am very familiar with spank wheels.

www.pinkbike.com/forum/listcomments/?threadid=188618

I do ride within the intended use of my bikes and parts equiped on my bikes. But, I do push my limits and the limits of what I ride. I'm probably a guy that would benefit greatly from an insert of some sort but, that's something for me to sort out.

With my new M930's and 730's, I've had zero issues. Not saying I will not in the near future but, I know that if I do, I will get a quick turn around that cost me exactly zero dollars.
  • 5 0
@ProChargedZ28: Zero issues =/= average replacement time of a week.

@Injuredhippo: bro, keep up with the comments. You sound like an idiot right now. You picked the sections of my comments and rearranged them to make up your own point. If you read instead of miss quoting me, you'll see in my last comment above, the zero issues have been with my new wheels. Implying I have not needed to warranty them yet... Wait, I did out right say, "not saying in the near future....."

Well hey, at least if I do break a set, I get new ones free. I dont care how many times they may or may not break. Life time replacement is where my money went. Spank, dt, Easton, rovale, just to name a few, never gave me a new wheel when I broke theirs.
  • 17 1
@ProChargedZ28: it will cost you zero dollars? New flash- you have already paid UP FRONT for replacements. Sorry.
  • 5 5
@CircusMaximus: That's a valid point!!! But for me it's money worth it. I break around 2-3 sets of wheels each DH season at the resorts. I break about 1 set per year trail riding. Carbon wheels or not, I break that many. Add that up over the past few years and I have already saved money given the alternative of buying less expensive rims. The money saved from buying new rims/spokes and re-lacing to my hubs each time has paid off where I would have saved money on other wheels. Sure there are other carbon options out there with life time. But in the past with Enve, if you broke a wheel, the warranty started all over again at day Zero. I rode Spanks for years and relized using math, that a Brand that supplied a super easy warranty was worth my money.

Is the up front cash easy for many, prob not. But, for a guy who has been riding for years and hopes to for many more, my investment in a set that will cost me zero to fix anytime I break them was worth it. Sure, they are pricey as hell, I can't deny that. They have already saved me money from my days of riding rims without replacement warranties.

I'm not a fan boy of carbon over alum., this brand or that. In the long run for a guy that goes through wheels, I'm a fan boy of the warranty.
  • 5 1
@ProChargedZ28: I can respect that. And thanks for being cool and not defensive. Cheers
  • 7 3
@ProChargedZ28: You break how many wheels in a season? Maybe instead of spending all that money on wheels you should just take some lessons. You either have very bad line choices or your wheels are very weak.
  • 7 4
@johniep: no doubt I may pick bad lines. As far as classes, I've got a few kom's and real trophies at home, so my pride is not hurt by your comment. Lol.

Fast lines aren't always the safe line, hence why I want that warranty
  • 3 2
And @johniep: feel free to read the full convo that's happened above and catch up. You'll see brands of wheels I've run and a link to a forum on pinkbike I started. You may understand more about what you're trying to talk about but are failing badly at. Do ya' research before trying to call someone out.

  • 1 1
@Monkeyass: hotdog champ past 3 years haha. The extra weights makes bulldozing downhill a blast.
  • 4 1
Dammit Jim! I'm a teacher not a dentist! Destroyed a set of wheels right before my summer mtn bike trip a couple years ago. I don't get paid in the summer, and if I had spent the money even on an appropriately priced set of aluminum wheels, I'd have dented my budget too badly to go on the trip. Only wheel company that took payments was Enve (I know... don't laugh). I pulled the trigger, made monthlies on them for a year, and I rode the best set of wheels I've ever ridden in 27 years of riding. And had a blast on my trip.

They are ridiculously expensive. But they are some badass wheels.

That said, I did just purchase my first set of Reynolds. Half the price and I still get to buy American made.

  • 1 0
@cunning-linguist: IIRC stock #s for a '91 5.0l HO were 225hp 320tq. With a good driver a stick shift LX trunk will run high 13s in the 1/4. My DSO (domestic special order) was 3250lb stock I believe. I've got mine down to 3000. With a few mods again. Good for high 11's in the 1/4.

I'm not a fan of the styling on that particular TVR. Which engine does yours have? IIRC some came with 5.0l Fords

  • 2 1
Enve was a pioneer in the carbon wheel movement and have my respect. However, they saw the writing on the wall and sold out to the Euro company Amer sports. Amer is actively seeking a buyer of enve and mavic.. Two struggling wheel manufacturers. Canadian made is a hell of a lot better than China made, I hope they can sustain the affordable pricing. I was going to order a set but they told me it’s a 3-4 week turn around so I bought a clearance set of Reynolds with torch hubs for 900.00
  • 6 2
2K? Sweet, I'll head right to the bank... Be back in minute, promise.
  • 2 2
I 9 wheels have life time warranty. These two years. I dent rims but I dont destroy them. If I was destroying rims I dont think 500 dollar rims are a good idea. With Uber wheels like this i may not dent the rims but it would leave a huge dent in my bank account. I love to look at this stuff I 9 hubs with Stans rims and sapim race spokes and labor . 600 for the hubs 300 for the rims 150 for spokes 50 for labor. 1100 bucks. Canadian. Stans Mk3 27.5 rims weigh 490 grams. Im guessing these carbon rims are about 400 grams. You get a significant weight savings at a cost .

  • 1 0
Right! I'm running 29er Halo Vapour 35 aluminum rims, DT comp spokes, Sapim nipples on Hope Pro 4's. About $525. Weigh about the same as the m730 Enve. 2 seasons, no issues so far. Math says I could buy 4 sets of my setup, run a wheelset until it is destroyed, switch to the next set, etc. and that would last at least 8 years. Or for just over the price of shipping a wheel for warranty, I can go down to my LBS and get a new rim in 2 days..

You should probably understand they are fighting for their life right know. SC blew up the market with warranty, everyone else is cheaper due to manufacturing in Asia. So another year or two and either they move to China or go out of business. US manufacturing jobs lost anyway. Pity, as they basically created the market for carbon mtb wheels in the first place.
