Video & Race Report: Eastern States Cup Enduro #3 - Glen Park, PA

by Eastern States Cup

It's back to the Poconos for the third round of Maxxis ESC Specialized Enduro racing. This is our fifth season racing at the East Stroudsburg gem, it has become a favorite stop amongst the community. That may be because the high speed trail system is a blast to ride whether you're racing or not. It may also be because the Pocono Bike Club spoils us with an Aid Station with delicious food provided by the Arlington Diner or the 70+ pizzas they ordered after the race. This year, the PBC and the Maxxis ESC put together five challenging stages which mix it up from years past, totaling about 12 miles and 2.2k vertical feet by race's end. Significant rainfall on Friday followed by 90+ degree days over the weekend kept things interesting for racers. We even had a world champion get in on the action for this sweaty, amazingly fun weekend in Pennsylvania.

Practice day hucks with Dylan Conte.

U15 speed dealers Collin Bourque and Lucas DeDora pushing eachother in practice, they would go on to finish third and first, respectively.

A big day on the bike requires proper fuel, Eric McNeil whips up a breakfast sandwich to start his race morning

photo
8am riders meeting was a bit earlier than usual, but the Kate's Kids class racers were still front row, itching to get out there.

photo
You never know what you'll walk away with at an ESC race. Amateur women's class rider Jenny Pedersen took home a fresh Kuat bike rack.

photo
ProBuilds Racing's Adrian Hayden lets it roll toward the bottom of Stage 1, rounding out the top five in his first season racing the Pro Men.

photo
Sixth place U20 finisher Anthony Bowman finds the flow on Stage 2.

photo
Chris Miller is always one to watch out there, second place for the Pro Men.

photo
This is how fast you have to go to crack the U20 class top ten these days, as demonstrated by Ben Montello.

photo
Some flare amongst the hues of green on Stage 3 from Gavin Wiggin, top fifteen for the U20 boys.

photo
Luke Mello put on a cornering clinic out there and was our fastest amateur racer this weekend, earning his first U20 win by nearly nine seconds.

photo
After the stage is over it's back to goofing around with your buddies. Steve Estabrook leaves a slithery surprise for Dylan Conte.

photo
There's no shortage of opportunities to jump gaps at Glen Park, you just have to decide if that's the faster line. After a year off racing, Bruno Sanchez is back on the 21-29 men's class podium, third place this weekend.

Safe!

photo
The success rate on this slick chute at the bottom of Stage 4 was about 50%. Course sweeper and second place Motorex Ebike class finisher John Beaupre shuts it down for the weekend.

photo
One last descent through the rhododendron jungle before you can go pour water on your head, enjoy free pizza and relive the day with friends.

photo
Third place 30-39 men's class finisher Nils Berg flies through the S turns at the top of Stage 5.

photo
This rock garden is probably the most technical section in all of Glen Park, so why not save it for the last stage? Ridge Larick smashes through it on his way to take the 21-29 Men's win.

photo
John Foody works it through the Pennsylvania chunk, fourth place for the 21-29 Men.

photo
SDR Clothing's Super Duper Rewards were earned by both the 30-39 men's and Amateur women's classes, as they had over 50 and 20 racers respectively.

photo
Outdoor Gear Exchange's Hannah Harrington was able to take a stage win and slot into third for the Pro ladies.

photo
Kristine Contento-Angell has had a fantastic start to her season, third place at Diamond Hill and second at Glen Park. Hopefully, we see her on top of the podium soon.

photo
Another win earned for Sarah Howerter this weekend, as she took three stage wins, fifteen seconds ahead of the rest of the Pro women.

Pro Women: 4th - Kale Cushman, 2nd - Kristine Contento-Angell, 1st - Sarah Howerter, 3rd - Hannah Harrington, 5th - Kimberley Quinlan

photo
Kory Nagy is one of the most consistent Maxxis ESC Enduro racers out there, he's podiums at nearly every race he enters. This weekend was no different, he kept it smooth and consistent through all five stages to take third place for the Pro men.

photo
The undisputed champion of Glen Park passed no the crown this weekend, second place with a bobble on the final stage for Adam Morse. After getting a few nagging injuries patched up he's glad to be back between the tape and right back up to speed.

photo
Top honors belonged to Richie Rude this weekend, fourteen seconds ahead of the pack with a final race time of 10:50.454."Always heard that it was one of the better races to do and it came at a perfect time to get on the clock before heading out for the big races. The tracks had a lot of content for it only being a 500 foot hill, lots of tech and flowy corners with the some rocks and steep chutes scattered throughout, made for some great riding and racing. It was great being at the race and seeing all your riding buddies and everyone in general having a great time, cant beat that!"

Pro Men: 4th - Steve Estabrook, 2nd - Adam Morse, 1st - Richie Rude, 3rd - Kory Nagy, 5th - Adrian Hayden
