Ask Pinkbike: Sizing, Buying, Broken Spokes, & Diagnosing Creaks
Absolutely to that. But it does take some confidence in your knowledge of your own riding and desires. If somebody's an absolute beginner then they likely don't know the "difference" between a 120mm light trail bike & a 150mm borderline-Enduro bike, let alone what's good for the trails they enjoy riding.

Interview: Researcher Debbie Palmer on Studying Mountain Biking Injuries for the EWS
You'll notice that a number of pros are running full on DH helmets but removing the padding from the helmet for the climb - a whole bunch less sweaty. Obviously it won't "do it's job" if you fall off your bike at 5km/h on a firetrail climb, but it technically ticks the box in the rules

Video: Yoann Barelli on Switching to Guerrilla Gravity & His New Gnarvana
@adrennan: Oh absolutely. Fundamentally (presuming we still want to operate in a capitalistic system) we need all the downstream costs (climate change, pollution, health impacts etc. etc.) shifted into the sale cost. Nek minnit it's no longer 'cheaper' to... well... to do morally bankrupt things.

@R-M-R: Ah yep - good catch. Looks like the (average) estimates are closer to 1-3x as much per tonne/km for train vs ocean. Very close indeed.

@adrennan: Eh - the container shipping one (re C02 equiv.) is a bit complex. Freight shipping has the lowest carbon footprint per weight of cargo transported. Compared to planes, trucks, and trains it's is orders of magnitude more efficient (that may change in the future with green powered electric trains). So yes - reducing consumption for shipped good will reduce the overall enormous seafreight footprint - but each individual purchase from overseas that will be shipped via air freight has a much larger (think thousands of times) footprint.

First Ride: 2021 Santa Cruz Bullit - It's Electric
@rarerider: Nah my friend - buy it in ____ & take it for a ride. All of a sudden it's just your bike that you're travelling with rather than an import. Even works when you're paying VAT, too. Buy it in, say, Germany (non EU obvs), ensure your receipts are all dialed - travel home within 3 months, get the VAT back and don't pay import taxes at home.
