Leading after day one, Rude built on his lead to take the top spot on the podium with a 47-second cushion. The Yeti/Fox Shox Factory rider won five of the seven stages during the two-day race.

“It’s a good mix of pedaly, rocky and pretty fast tracks here at Angel Fire. Started to have a lot of fun and went for it,” Rude said. “It’s super dry here with all weather we’ve been having. Pretty tricky to race because it’s hard to push through the berms when everything is so dusty, but just had fun.”

Rude’s Yeti/Fox Shox Factory teammates joined him on the podium with Shawn Neer finishing second and Jubal Davis taking third.

“It seems like I’m always battling with the teammates, which is sick,” Davis said. “We always practice together. Times are somewhat tight most of the time. Richie [Rude] just lays down heaters out of nowhere all the time.”

“The Angel Fire Bike Park crew and SCOTT Enduro Cup put an insane race on. It was a lot of fun,” Neer said. “The Angel Fire stop is always one of my favorites.”

The top-five in the Men’s Pro/Open field was rounded out by New Mexico native Chris Boice and Dylan Crane.

“I had a lot of fun riding with a lot of friends. Being a local race, we see a lot of people I ride with day-to-day and ride with them. To see the juniors I coach do well and see them progress is kind of icing on the cake to the podium.”

Winning three of the four day one stages, Ott was able to hang onto her lead for the victory. She will look to add series points at the remaining three SCOTT Enduro Cup races this year after a third-place finish at Round 1 in Moab.

“I love racing the SCOTT Enduro Cup. Angel Fire, this is my first year here, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites,” Ott said. “I like the variety of all the different races. It’s a good mix and a great series.”

A strong second day for Clare Hamilton moved her into second place, 22 seconds out of first. Hamilton took the top spot in two of three stages on day two.

“Rowdy time. Awesome to be out here with so many rad ladies,” Hamilton said. ”That’s what makes racing fun is just hanging out with so many other cool gals.”

Lia Westermann, Porsha Murdock - last year’s Angel Fire winner and New Mexico native Amanda Batty finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

“Angel Fire is just really rowdy. It’s fun. It keeps you on your toes,” Murdock said. “Having it all in the park definitely upped the ante. It was really fun.”

“The competition was great this weekend in the Pro Women field,” Ott added. “Just like always, it’s just such an awesome supportive group of women. I just look forward to racing with them.”

Apparently I need a Yeti to win these races.
  • 2 1
Just ordered a pair of Yeti's, clearly I'm on the wrong bike.

Huh, the Yeti that keeps my beer cold doesn't help me win. Must not be drinking enough.
  • 12 2
Amanda Batty raced the enduro on a downhill bike huh. Won a stage as well.

Yeah, they had to cancel all the backcountry stages due to the forest fires and the national forest being closed. So instead it got switched to all bike park stages. Super impressive given they could still swing a 2 day race on such short notice, but it kind of took away any meaningful transfer stages.

Might as well as it was pretty much a 7 stage DH race. Saw her hootin' and hollering while just going mach 10 down a section under the lift.

good for her! she used to be a semi-frequent poster on PB.

@meathooker: Then she was oppressed by pinkbike's systemic white male privilege conspiracy.
  • 7 1
@Session603: hahaha she also left an outstanding bill at the bike shop I heard...
  • 4 3
@Session603: indeed. most weren't ready for her .... aggressiveness!

Hoping Durango gets some rain before the next round. Forest is shut down until the area gets significant moisture.
  • 21 0
Plus it's, ya know, still on fire.
  • 2 0
sounds like everything forest will be closed through July 21st at this point. They are shutting down town trails this evening. Sad but part of the deal.
  • 1 0
@Chainsaw7: Nah, it'll will be open when moisture levels are higher and the 416 fire is closer towards containment. Hopefully sooner than later.

How come Richie doesn't have a mustache!?! So much of the authority of the other Yeti riders comes from their mustaches.

I'm heading to Angel Fire on Thursday for the weekend. I'll try to do all the runs from the race, it will be like a slow motion relay! Actually, I am interested in comparing my times to RR's. I'm thinking a given stage will take me at least twice as long, perhaps 3X.

I raced ews Aspen last year as an amateur. My times were 33.6% slower than Sam Hill. Honestly, I was so happy to even be that close to the world's best. It's definitely a fun thing to compare!

Richie beat me by 15 minutes...

Does Richie ever, not have, a cut/bandage on his leg? I feel like Homie just blasts his shins all the time. It's okay because it clearly doesn't effect his time.

It's the tears of rock you're seeing. I think Richie Rude is the next Chuck Norris.

 @dirtnapped:
When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Richie Rude.

When you go up for an enduro and find out its gonna b a DH stage race - big smiles! Might as well drop the enduro idea at big high mtns. DH stage racing is da best

That was a 47 second lead, not a 4.7 second lead? Glad to see RR's taking it easy in these domestic races.

Any additional race photos from the weekend?

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale? It's aight, but it's also in pretty high abundance and worthy of a podium finish sloshing.
