So what Maes is saying - is - never go full 29er.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:08)
"Full 29er is not exciting." - current best mountain biker in the world
Gonna go microwave a couple bags of popcorn.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:09)
I wonder who will get credited with the 'creator' of this trend?
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:26)
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:45)
: I think Foes maybe. They had a bike called "The Twister" a while back. At least I think that's what it was called, and I believe it was this same set up, but it's been a few years to be honest. My memory could be failing.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:45)
: Yeah that's the one. You beat me to it.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 18:09)
: Trek made the 69er back in 2008. Does that count?
(Mar 29, 2019 at 18:27)
: I think Charlie Cunningham beat us all to it.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 19:12)
: there's a couple people in OC that have been doing this for years. I rode a turner DHR 275f/26r for couple years.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 21:57)
: I think it was the foes mixer actually but close
(Mar 29, 2019 at 21:59)
: that’s awesome, he said what everyone already knew
(Mar 29, 2019 at 22:00)
: no you don’t
(Mar 29, 2019 at 22:11)
The Mullet Bike is finally here to race! Business at the front, party at the back!
(Mar 29, 2019 at 22:21)
What hes saying is , never go full 29er...on THAT bike.A different bike would behave differently and may be better suited for full 29er
(Mar 30, 2019 at 6:10)
: the Mixer you mean? Because it mixes wheel sizes?
(Mar 30, 2019 at 7:59)
I rode and xc raced a 140mm 26 rear 27.5 front Frankenbike for years. The frame was always too small but the move to a larger front wheel helped a ton. If I didn't have to size up I would have held on to that bike and would still be riding it for sure. It was more efficient on rugged trails than a 29 hardtail, lighter than a 100mm 29er full sus, and could smash the downs like a short travel enduro race bike.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 8:53)
wait. none of ya'll ran 26/24 back in the day?
(Mar 30, 2019 at 9:08)
: Yeah, it was quite a big hit back in the day
(Mar 30, 2019 at 9:12)
You guys....it’s Penny Farthings. The real OG of mixed wheel sizes.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 9:30)
: fully. just like wide rims and large volume tires. now look where we are. its like 2001 all over again.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 11:53)
: Yeah, the Foes Mixer is still quite recent. I think it was actually later than Liteville mixing wheelsizes to suit the frame size. But 26-24 was already common before that on Banshee (Mythic for the Brits), Specialized and probably loads more. And as the penny farthing was there way before that, indeed same wheelsize front and rear is the new development, not the other way around. It was just the UCI regulations which meant they weren't allowed in competition (for no apparent reason) but for those not competing there was never any reason to not mix wheelsizes.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 14:49)
: Nope. Mixer.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 18:46)
Maes Pinkbike fail, picking TWO wheel sizes and being super nice about it.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 17:35)
"Martin Maes wheel set up - it's all in here!" in the description
Maes says - "I can't talk too much about it"
(Mar 29, 2019 at 18:09)
GT 27.5 / 29 specific frame and/or rear triangle option coming?
(Mar 29, 2019 at 18:53)
: I'm thinking a 29er Sanction
(Mar 29, 2019 at 22:58)
I don't understand why he's trying to be secretive about 2 wheel sizes/1 bike. What could he possibly be hiding from us? are we that idiotic?
(Mar 30, 2019 at 0:02)
: I interpreted it to mean that he doesn't have that much to say, not that he's hiding anything.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 6:09)
Think its the 27,5 frame with just a 29” fork..
29” is 19mm higer then 27,5.
So going from 180mm front travel to 160mm and change to 29” keeps everything more or less the same.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 9:03)
: ah... makes sense. guess I actually am the idiotic one!
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:27)
telling it like it is.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:42)
He reminds me of scuba Claude in Along Came Polly
(Mar 29, 2019 at 18:00)
: Haha, I always knew he seemed familiar! I thought it was just because he is like-able, but this explains a lot
(Mar 29, 2019 at 19:54)
I’m waiting for him to tell us the story of the (h)ippopotamus. He’s my favorite bike personality. Such a great attitude.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 1:14)
I’m sure glad he decided to wear clothing
(Mar 29, 2019 at 15:42)
No more baguette for Yoann?!?
(Mar 30, 2019 at 6:50)
Darn, with Katie spilling the beans on which is the fastest of the Trek Slashes - I will have to go and get mine repainted. I could have sworn British Racing Green was the fast colour...
So Yoann the baguettes didn't work out too well as tire inserts??? Who'd have thought?
Did they taste good though after being in a tire for a season though????
(Mar 30, 2019 at 0:13)
Riding 29/27.5" combo on my Enduro 2017 29" for almost one year now. I made some modification with link to get right BB height. I will never go back on 29/29". But eager to try 27.5/26" bike.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 23:15)
Every time I see Yoann I think of the movie along came poly “you want to scuba” hahahahahha
(Mar 31, 2019 at 6:22)
I think we know who Yoann’s father is,
(Mar 29, 2019 at 21:28)
Haha, I knew holding on to my 26 stable was worth it! Now I've just got to eek a couple more years out of them until all the new geometry is based around 29 front, 27.5 rear, and I'll be ready to finally make the change....
(Mar 29, 2019 at 21:36)
26 front 24 rear specialized big hit!!! who knew!
(Mar 30, 2019 at 6:37)
If I remember correctly, Cannondale made a bike like that back in the 80's - a hard tail.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 16:18)
: yep! SM 600 1986.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 17:19)
How about some bike checsk from the cape epic too?
(Mar 29, 2019 at 17:53)
PYGA is the only bike you want to check out!
(Mar 29, 2019 at 18:28)
: can you put a double crown on a Slakline? Kind of dying to throw a 180 MRP Bartlett on the front of one
(Mar 29, 2019 at 23:42)
Did they make Ric stay awake for the entire trip toTassy? The boy looks knackered! Let him have a lie in ffs.
(Mar 30, 2019 at 7:51)
I’ve been running a 27.5/26 wheel combo on my DH bike and Santa Cruz Nickel since 2014. That combo corners awesome. The advantage of two wheel sizes is best noticed when cornering. The bike dives into corners and oversteers nicely with the wheel combo.
(Mar 29, 2019 at 16:14)
I feel like to be a true "69er" it has to have a 26" rear wheel...
(Mar 30, 2019 at 2:03)
