Théo Galy, French National Champ and all-around rapid EWS racer gives us a detailed look at his Sunn French Connexion Spec Kern EN enduro bike.
Theo has already had great results with Sunn bikes and FSA components (cockpit, crankset and wheels) for the past three seasons and currently sits 3rd overall in the Enduro World Series Global Ranking. In the 2020 EWS he achieved two top-5 in 3 races, resulting one of the best Enduro riders in the World and representing for FSA an important showcase in Enduro world.
As shown in the photos, the team has been testing new prototype chainstays for the Kern EN. The construction and layup of the carbon has been tuned to achieve better compliance from the rear end. The improvements reduce fatigue on long EWS stages and increases cornering grip in fast, bike park situations.
Théo's bike is visually different from production Kern EN bikes but many of the components are shared from race to customer bike, and FSA decks the bike with the latest Gradient oil slick stem, carbon bars and Gradient carbon wheelset.
FSA components: Frame: 2021 Sunn Kern Carbon EN size M with prototype chainstay Cranks : FSA Afterbruner Modular 2x. Yup, that isn't a mistake. This is a 2 x chainset which is only in place to get us up and running for the team camp. Covid meant we weren't able to get our final spec, but FSA made sure we were up and running. Chainring: FSA 36t. Chain Guide: FSA Chain: FSA K-Force 12 speed Handlebar: FSA Gradient Carbon OS35 riser features carbon composite construction and reinforced and textured clamping areas, for an excellent compromise between lightness and strength. Stem: FSA Gradient Team LTD in oil slick. This is a 35mm diameter stem measuring 32mm for fast and direct steering. Wheels: FSA Gradient i29 carbon wheels. These are tough and lightweight carbon wheels that aren't overly stiff like some. Seatpost: FSA Flowtron 150mm dropper with cable operation. Superslick dropper and very durable.
