PRESS RELEASE: Fabric

There's a whole bunch of people behind our new grip and we'd like to introduce you to one of them, the others you already know as Ratboy, Loosedog and Sam Dale to name but a few.

50to01 the Malverns Classic
50to01 @ the Malverns Classic

This rider's name is Max Nerurkar, a great bike handler (be-it BMX or mountain), a very talented skater and an aspiring artist. All of these combined have a huge influence into making up his @3-dumb moniker for those of you harvesting viewing hours on instagram. Max designed the packaging for the grip and if you love his stuff, Max also has a range of tees available from Banana Industries

We grabbed some words from Max and asked him to go over his experience with the Magic Grip development.

"It has been great to work with the rest of the 50to01 crew as well as the team at Fabric to create a grip that is built from our first hand experience of riding. We have tried to combine and integrate all of our personal preferences when it comes to hanging on to the bike. Everyone has their preferences so you can never make something that is perfect for everyone but having such a wide range of input has allowed us to produce something that will keep most of those hands out there happy as larry.

For the whole time I have been riding bikes, one of the things I have tripped on most when it comes to setting up the bike is how the grips feel. Once I know the brakes are working and the suspension isn’t going to pop me into next week, all I really think about in terms of bike feel is how my hands feels on the bars / grips. Your feet and your hands are your two points of contact with the bike, I see the feet as the heavy point of contact that stabilises the bike and makes sure it stays grounded. Whereas the hands are there for the more precise, finer movements, so for me a grip has to translate that. It wants to be supple and un-intrusive, something that the hands feel natural and comfortable holding for long periods of time."

"The magic grip has been made as a product of this kind of trip. The rubbers ribs give a perfect amount of comfort without feeling too soft or saggy. This allows for a firm grip with relaxed hands. The more relaxed you are the longer you can ride pain free and the easier it is to execute precise movements. The ergonomics of the mushroom (concave) further this controlled comfort as it follows the natural shape of a clenched hand meaning you get maximum surface contact with minimum hand contraction. It is this contracting (clenching) of the hands that eventually leads to hand / arm pump, so minimising this allows for more enjoyable riding while also being safer."

Kodak moment

"Another good way to look at it is like a pair of shoes. You have shoes that are really soft and comfortable but in practice they are too floppy to support your feet properly. You also have shoes that are stiff and well fitted but on a long walk or anything slightly exertive they become stuffy and painful. Then you have that perfect pair of shoes that feel like slippers when you put them on but then once you are moving they will also hold their shape and integrity to support your feet properly. The magic grip is the grip equivalent of this type of shoe. A grip for any and every day."

Fb Thanks Max for the words and everything else, thanks too to Loose for his help with the grip modelling today and (together with the crew) the huge design input into the grip, much appreciated fellas!

Do the ribs come pre-shredded, like in the picture with the camera? With that said, i think I'll try these. I loved the ODI mushrooms back in my BMX days....

Was always A'ME Rounds for me. Mushrooms were a bit squishy.
