PRESS RELEASE: Guerrilla Gravity

Modular Mixed-wheel Madness

Powered by GG’s Modular Frame Platform, the limited edition MX Rally build is a new mixed-wheel option that combines progressive geometry and a playful spirit with our US-built bikes. Available on the Megatrail and Shred Dogg, the MX Rally build delivers another layer of customization, allowing riders to experience the stability of a 29er with the maneuverability of a 27.5.

The Megatrail MX

As GG’s original Big Mountain Liberator, the Megatrail is equally suited for backcountry tech trails and bike park action.

Designed to bookend GG’s most aggressive geometries, the Megatrail modular platform is the perfect fit for a mixed-wheel build. The 165mm Gravity Mode is the new “lowest and slackest” configuration from GG. For trail and technical riding, the 155mm Trail Mode adds a slightly higher and steeper option.

Build Kit Details:

Spank 350 29” / 27.5” wheelset
Rockshox Zeb 170mm 29” fork
GG Short-stack GeoAdjust Headset
Your choice of drivetrain, brake, and tire options

The Shred Dogg MX

As the most lively bike in GG’s lineup, the Shred Dogg turns the trail into your own personal playground.

The 150mm fork takes the already capable Shred Dogg and increases its downhill authority. Paired with the versatility of 130mm Trail Mode and 140mm Gravity Mode in the rear, it quickly evolves into a snappy and responsive pedaling platform, rendering it a true one bike quiver.

Build Kit Details:

Spank 350 29” / 27.5” wheelset
Rockshox Lyrik 150mm 29” fork
GG Short-stack GeoAdjust Headset
Your choice of drivetrain, brake, and tire options

Customize your MX Rally build at RideGG.com. Builds start at $5295. Estimated lead times are only 4-5 weeks.

When you post about a new bike and don't include a picture of the new bike. Instead very low res Microsoft paint geo charts.
  • 10 1
Its not a new bike. Theyre the same looking bikes as before. They just sell the bike with a different headset cup to accommodate the larger fork and wheel.

Not a new bike, they have been offering the mullet option for quite a while if you knew to ask. They just made it an official option on the website finally. I've had my Megatrail MX aka the MegaSmash for over 18 months now, love it!
  • 2 0
@chillrider199: and how is the "megatrail mx" any different than the "mega smash" they already had...?

It’s not a new bike. It’s just a different selection of the pick and mix they offer
  • 2 2
@stiingya: It isn't. It is officially on the website and available to order. Also, there are geocharts.
  • 5 1
Ok, it's not a new bike. That means there must be thousands of photos to choose from. PB out here saving server space or something? Pander to me and post a photo, cuz I don't care enough to Google it.
  • 6 0
@marssizedobject: It's not even Pinkbike's fault. It's a press release from GG. They should have supplied photos. Even it isn't new - why wouldn't you include photos?
  • 4 0
@Yuley95: Exactly. Why WOULDN'T you take the opportunity to show the bike to the biggest MTB audience, including those who've never seen or heard of it before, on the worlds biggest MTB website!!!?

If you think every single PB user knows about this bike in and out, then you've got broccoli for brains.
  • 2 2
Weirdest neg props I've ever had. You wanted a picture of the bike there it is. Looks just like the one on the website but with a bigger front wheel. Tough crowd....
  • 78 4
Can't wait to see all of the Front Range bros picking their way down the local XC trails on the 35lb mullet bikes.

@LeDuke since we're painting with broad strokes, would you rather the beer belly bros in sausage suits riding 100mm wagon wheel whippets?
  • 4 1
Or the ones riding in street clothes calling everybody joeys. Those guys are the best.
  • 28 1
Not everybody has specific bikes for specific trails.... If you can only get one mountain bike you should buy one that will cover the most riding which is an Enduro bike for most people. Even if it spends time doing XC duty too.
  • 1 0
 Damn true! Lol

Every time I get an email from GG I excitedly hope it’s about the updated Smash with a rear carbon triangle.

Every time, I’m disappointed.

How long can the Smash be “coming soon” before its “coming later.”
  • 4 1
How long have you been waiting? According to everyone else, 1-2 years is reasonable lol.
  • 5 2
I am frustrated with this too! I thought the frame was modular, but I can’t buy a new rear end??? False advertising…
  • 3 0
Rumor is that it got held up even longer due to the new TP seat stay issues.
  • 17 3
Is the shock and frame alignment issue all sorted now?
  • 26 5
According to the current threads on MTBR and Rotoburn, no. Sadly it appears that their position is that if they send you a misaligned frame, you should pay shipping to send it back and shipping for the second frame, so you can get what you paid for in the first place. It looks like their QC process is send it out and if the customer doesn’t notice, it has passed.

Hello, Marshal the GG marketing director here. Just wanted to share that the rider is stuck in regional lockdown presently, so we are all stuck in limbo until restrictions lift in their area. What is clear is that GG didn't handle the situation as well as we should have. As such, the communication and return protocol accordingly has been revised to prevent such a situation from occurring again. My apologies continue to go out to the rider in question. Thank you kindly for your inquiry and all the best. Marshal
  • 4 1
That seemed to be one instance that was addressed. Any others Komdotkom?
  • 6 1
Wasn't it just that one Aussie dude had this issue and he raised the HELL online it can be heard on PB forum?
  • 6 2
 @olson44:

“Just wanted to share that the rider is stuck in regional lockdown presently, so we are all stuck in limbo until restrictions lift in their area.”

Good news Marshal, restrictions lifted here overnight. Not that there was any effect whatsoever on freight or postal services at the time, of course.
  • 5 1
@Adis2383: there's no way of knowing how many are affected. Addressing issues isn't fixing them. Buyer was notified of a blem, frame was sent anyway, then turned out to have a major alignment issue; then dude rode it anyway? Judge for yourself: www.mtbr.com/threads/gg-trail-pistol-full-carbon-a-tale-of-woeful-quality-and-heartbreak.1190677/#post-15362100. Lockdown status is irrelevant, 'spotless garage' is irrelevant, and comparison to Optic is completely unqualified, but there's not much reason to doubt timeline
  • 32 24
Now if you could only buy different rear triangles to make the bike modular like what is advertised as a feature. Six months now and no indication that I can use that modularity. I guess just buy another full frame? Personally, I do not recommend the bike because of this and a few other quibbles.
  • 11 8
I'd imagine most of the seat stays being produced are being used to meet demand for new bikes. I'm sure once they catch up you'll be able to pick a set up.

I've had my GG for about a year and a half. Switch between the TP and Smash quite a bit. I love it! The icing on the cake is GG's customer service. They always respond quickly and ship out warranty/replacement parts pretty fast.

Hopefully you'll be able to pick up some stays soon!
  • 34 11
EVERY single bike manufacturer is either facing massive delays due to no stock on components , extremely high demand or combination of both. You do realize many folks are on 1- 2-year waiting lists from many top manufacturers out there. But yeah, smash the little company who is working endless hours to keep up with demand in their small shop (great guys, I used to live right near them).
  • 7 1
Whats your issue? I've converted mine to another bike and so have many other owners on the forums?
  • 5 2
@bman33: Agreed 100%+. Last year I broke a seat stay on a new bike from a big company with a reputation for very good warranty support. While they responded immediately to my warranty request, and offer a replacement seat stay, no questions asked, they also informed me that all of their production was focused on keeping up with customer demand, and that I wouldn't have a replacement part for at least 4-6 months.

Bummer. But understandable given all time high demand + a global pandemic. Smile
  • 5 3
@rustiegrizwold: They will not sell me any other parts to convert the bike. And they do not indicate any timeline in which that will be possible.
  • 7 4
@bman33: Criticism is not smashing. They have continually given me no clue as to when I can purchase conversion parts, it is not a feature if you cannot do what they say you can. I realize that delays exist. Have your doc check your sodium levels next checkup eh, salty.
  • 4 1
@bman33: Lots of companies work endless hours to keep up with demand. The OP is not criticizing their effort, or whether or not they're nice guys. He's talking about unmet expectations.
@kokofosho what are the other quibbles you have?
  • 2 0
@kokofosho: I didn't realize! I just converted mine in March so I assumed it was still good but yea everything is sold out online. Maybe its because they moved their factory/headquarter and/or maybe its because they still want to be able to offer parts with the seat stay kits but they don't have the parts.

Good luck.
  • 6 3
dude. buy some used stays from the GG facebook group. I found some in literally 30mins and have been running the mullet config for a month already.
  • 8 1
@KJP1230: " Last year I broke a seat stay on a new bike from a big company with a reputation for very good warranty support. I'd not call that understandable. MTBs break, manufacturers should hold stock in reserve for this inevitibility. Unless this is a massive flaw that is wrecking every bike out there, a certain number of seatstays, etc need to be kept in stock to give out as warranty repairs.
  • 6 3
@AyJayDoubleyou: How do you know that that backup stock hasn't already been depleted?
  • 5 2
@bman33: no kidding, and their actual material stock, aluminum/carbon/components. Can't weld shit if you don't have enough metal for the complete bikes being ordered. Customers are insane, in every industry.

**edit** meant to add the SmashDogg at 150/140 f*cking rips. Super fun bike.
  • 2 0
@Dudeclimbsrocks: eh, I would rather new ones under warranty. I am not on Facebook.
  • 3 3
@Dudeclimbsrocks: I mean they could just say that any not leave us speculating.
  • 3 1
@kokofosho: I emailed them earlier in the year, February-ish and that was their response. Supply chain issues with aluminum tubing.
  • 5 1
@bman33: I dont, as he hasnt revealed what bike it is. There are some bikes that have got a bit of a reputation (most reently, the new spesh enduro) of breaking. But mostly you take the view that x% are going to break, and therefore that gets kept in stock for warranties and not sold. Whether thats seat stays, full frames, or raw materials or factory time.
Any company that doesn't is cashing in on selling anything they can now in the boom, and hanging their existing customers out to dry.
  • 1 0
@Dudeclimbsrocks: Good to know. Thank you.
  • 11 2
@bman33: Then don't advertise something you can't fulfill. Simple.

There's nothing wrong with smashing little companies if they fail to meet expectations. Welcome to how the market works. Not everyone gets a participation trophy for existing.
  • 2 0
@AyJayDoubleyou: I don't disagree. Fortunately, they actually got my warranty parts much sooner (about 2 months), so it was all good.
  • 5 2
@Dudeclimbsrocks: I thought the whole point of making them in America was so they didn’t have these supply problems because they made all the frames themselves. Raw materials are available. We just bought 3 years worth of aluminium
  • 3 4
@nickfranko: Well in that case every single bike company needs to basically say 'we cannot support anything' until say 2022 considering the issues. Not asking for a 'participation trophy' at all, just realism and perspective. koko noting he hasn't gotten his triangle as if GG was never going to make them or lied about the compatibility features, which they didn't.

Until COVID (maybe a bit prior) pretty much zero issues with availability and I personally know 5 different riders with two sets of rear end for GG's and seen many others out in the wild with various config. Are the delays sh*tty? Yes, but almost everyone is in this position. Can GG or any bike company turn on a crystal ball and determine a) when raw materials /components shortages will end or b) when demand will slow down? The answer is no, no they can't. It's dishonest to say 'don't advertise if you can't fulfill'. That isn't the full picture or an objective view of the situation
  • 2 3
@Alexanz1: I mean you’d think they would produce parts to meet the promises made to the riders that have already invested in the platform. Only making parts available for new bikes makes it basically a rear triangle ponzi. That said I really like my smash. Although I have no use for different rear ends I understand the frustration of people who bought into that reasoning and now can’t actually squeeze out the modularity they were promised.
  • 4 2
@CM999: You understand that they dont have the buying power of trek/spesh/etc? And that supply issues happened/are-happening to every company? Not to mention 1yr after a small boutique brand exploded in popularity and had to scramble to keep up with demand?
  • 2 1
@nickfranko: so YT Capra pre-orders for 2022 and promised no later than 2023 is on the same boat, is it not? They did a press release but can't deliver till mid next year. Why would they advertise that and not fulfill sooner? Try ordering ANY bike, bet you'll hit a pre order wall for about a year. Why can't these companies fulfill sooner if they're advertising them.
  • 8 0
Hasn't this been an option for years with GG?
  • 4 2
Yeah, they've had the "secret menu" bikes forever and there's also the awesome customer service where you can talk to the people building your bike and explain what you're going for and they'll do everything they can to make it happen. They've been spec'ing the 29er headset cups on the 27.5 bikes since the new front triangles were announced.

I came close to pulling the trigger on one back in 2019, "MegaSmash", ended up going for a Pedalhead hardtail though, super fun steel hardtail but it doesn't look like GG is still making them.
  • 3 0
@chacou: I had a pedalhead for several years. It was a great bike. I had heard rumors they might bring it back at some point but that was a while ago.
  • 2 0
@adrennan: I suspect that they're just full heads down on the Revv'd bikes and they're still hiring manufacturing positions so probably not even at full production capacity. I got my Pedalhead frame new in 2019 and they only had a handful of welded up then. It could also be supply-chain issues with getting the square steel tubing, who knows...
  • 1 0
Im a little bit confused here as well. so, if you buy a Megatrail frame only do you get the 2 geoadjust lower cups (short and tall to be able to run 27.5 or 29er), or just play with geometry ? can you please clarify this @olson44 ?
  • 1 0
@Lagr1980: nah, you pick which one you want, but you can buy the other separate and it's not very expensive. I ordered a regular shred Dogg last year but also got the short 29er lower cup to go mullet.
  • 1 0
@Lagr1980: Just to confirm, the standard 650b Megatrail build includes the tall headset cup. The MX Build Megatrail includes the short headset cup. Cheers!
  • 8 0
Ok now let's hear form that matt76 guy again and again...

Started running my revved Pistola as a mullet a few months ago as an experiment since I already had a spare 27.5 rear laying around.. Aside from the increased pedal smashes, its a pretty impressive package, especially for park days or stupid steep stuff. Oddly enough, I thought one of the biggest benefits was that it slacked out the seat tube just enough so that I wasn't putting so much pressure on my hands on the flats so it felt more natural. Yes, I know can just move the seat back on the rails, but it just never felt 'right' that way. Its stupid slack now (maybe too much?) for a trail bike but its a really fun, dumb toy.

 Worst ever Pinkbike press release.
  • 6 2
An official press release for something GG not to mention everyone else has been doing for years!!?
  • 5 1
Them ad dollars mate. GG obviously paid for the "front page" editorial package but havent got anything to actually market..
  • 6 1
Cool no Photo of the Bike
  • 4 0
Does that mean that seas stays/fames will be in stock? or just some day in future?
  • 4 2
I appreciate that we are fully in the stage of parts supply shortage, wherein brands are mulleting bikes because those are the parts they have, and calling it a new thing! lol
  • 8 5
They should probably remedy their frame alignment issues first before releasing anything new.
  • 3 7
flag CM999 (Jul 27, 2021 at 12:26) (Below Threshold)
That’s expensive of the error is in the mould so why bother off you can get away with it
  • 8 3
So is this based on the 1 issue in Australia that got MTBR all stirred up, or are there (many, many) others? I have a new TP/Smash and it was perfect, as has all my friend's GG frames (Gnarvana, TPs and Shred Doggs). Haven't seen any other legitimate evidence of misaligned frames, but I may have missed it somehow.
  • 4 5
Really great that there is 10mm of reach adjustment in every size, but why is there such a huge gap between sizes? There is 20mm reach difference between S3 and S4 and 15mm between S2 and S3! I would think the adjustments would bring the sizes close to overlapping, but instead there is a gap bigger than the adjustment.

Also all the wheelbases are the same for the Megatrail... mistake on the chart?
  • 2 0
Aren’t 20mm steps standard, or even on the smaller end?
  • 1 0
I think it's because there's a huge gap in the size of people that would ride a s2 vs s3 vs s4. The geo adjust gets close and gives you options, plus reach is pretty subjective. You can buy a different stem length, slide your seat forward, maybe get some metal legs or arms that telescope to fit your riding situation?
  • 1 1
@AckshunW: But these would be 30+ without the adjustment. If the sizes were only 20mm apart to begin with, then the adjustment would get them much closer. It just seems weird that if you're around, say, 472mm then you've got some wiggle room, 5mm either way; but if, say, 487 is your ideal, then you've got to choose either 10 mm shorter or 10mm longer,
  • 2 1
@Dudeclimbsrocks: a huge gap in the size of people? You mean people just jump from 5'8" to 5'11"? There is no such thing as a 5'10" or 5'9.5" person?
  • 1 0
ummm wut? Many people, many frames, what are you confused about?
  • 3 1
Frame alignment issues, heavy, just a typical horst link. No marketing is going to make these cool.
  • 4 3
I'm intrigued by the Shred Dog. Could be an interesting East Coast shred sled.
  • 2 0
I've got an older (aluminum) one and it's great for EC riding. I've also got a long shock and just picked up a 29er fork and wheel setup for smash dog mode. Looking forward to seeing how it handles some park laps
  • 1 2
I built up a mullet shred Dogg last year and love it. I'm up in Maine. Plenty burly for the gnarliest trails around and makes every trail fun with its liveliness. They're heavy for a carbon frame, but rock solid.

@PTyliszczak: litigation is a cornerstone of their business plan. Geometry still semi-secret. 'Disruptive tech'
  • 8 0
@nojzilla: I believe they are in a trademark dispute, which is why no one is using the term mullet and they are all saying mixed wheel. Read the FAQ on the Mullet Cycles site, they sound like insufferable f*cks.
  • 6 0
 @PTyliszczak:
"Q: Why don’t you release your Geometry and Specs?

A: Why doesn’t McDonalds release their Sweet & Sour sauce formulation? So everyone can’t copy it."

Ok, you weren't kidding!
  • 4 0
 @withdignityifnotalacrity: Cart before the horse!

Q: Why aren’t your bikes made in the USA?

A: We don’t write Grants asking the Government for money. We also don’t have a trust fund like most bike companies.

We live and die by the sword. There are only 2 manufactures left in the US who is production capable. If we’d manufacture them in the US, you’d likely purchase a Sprinter Van instead.

Also they shit on bikes like the Tazer MX saying they are cheating by using a 27.5+ tire in the rear. Then they say they use a "real" tire on their bikes so you can go FAST! 3.0 Inches! If I'm not mistaken, three inches is generally accepted as plus size tires.
  • 3 0
@PTyliszczak: I really wish they weren't such a f*cking unattractive business because I do think the shape of the frames looks quite nice
  • 1 1
@Jakesmith32: They are kind've jerks online, but I just picked up a hardtail from them and they were really great to work with.
  • 7 0
@PTyliszczak: They got obliterated on Vital when they dropped a press release for their dual sus. Attacked commenters, created fake accts to defend the company, attacked Foes and Vorsprung. One of the owners ran his own 'company' by repackaging 'products' purchased off Aliexpress. When a company shows their sphincters in full force, it's best to believe them that yes, they are a$$holes.

  • 2 0
 @PTyliszczak:
Q: Do you have plan on offering Carbon bike in the future?
A: We don’t trust anything we can’t kill or rumored to not have a soul.

...WTF!?
  • 5 0
@withdignityifnotalacrity: it's a pretty interesting business choice - marketing to serious riders and not showing a geo chart? Yeah, good luck with that. The FAQ is just a big giant turn off to this brand.
