Crankworx is officially over, done, finished, and the last event was the Canadian Open Downhill. A real DH track, not super long like Garbanzo, and not super buff like A Line, but a real downhill track. Gee Atherton won it for the men, and Emmeline Ragot for the women. 2nd place Lewis Buchanan and Claire Buchar, 3rd goes to Justin Leov and Miranda Miller.

It was a hot and slightly humid day at Whistler today, 33 degrees to be exact, and dusty, really dusty. If there was a story today on the DH track it was dust. In practice you could hardly see for the dust on the trail, it there was someone ahead of you it was impossible. Dust in your eyes, dust in your nose, dust in your mouth, and dust in all the photographers lenses...
In the final things were a little better as there was a minute gap between riders, but there was still a thick layer of dust covering all the roots and rocks to contend with. In the women's race there were no real issues, Emmeline came first, Claire second, and Miranda 3rd. Fionn, Buhl and Rachel were on the start list but didn't race.
In the men's race it was Gee followed by 16 year old up and comer Lewis Buchanan, the youngest racer on the world cup circuit. Justin Leov was 3rd followed by another youngster Troy Brosnan, and then Andrew Neethling in 5th. Steve Smith flatted, and Brendan Fairclough suffered a front flat somewhere near the bottom...
if Aaron Gwin has a good race run he will be world champion. he got 10th there at his first world cup. he has the skills, now all he has to do is exicute it. any one know what sam hill is up to?
I don't know anyone who refers to themselves as British. I mean I class myself as English but most over the pond refer to us as British, which gets on my tits!
I'm British, and proud to be part of a bigger picture that includes Scotland, England, N.Ireland and Wales. Most people in this country are British first and what ever second. The only flag which most foreign people recognise is the Union Jack. Probably the most iconic flag in the world. Not a shit lot you can do about that.
It is B.S that there is still no England flag. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland get there own flag as an alternative to the British flag, but not England. Now Im not ragging on pinkbike, this is a problem everywhere. I mean yes, we the English have a strong history of moving around, pushing our ideas onto people, and spreading our beautiful language all over the globe - but we shouldn't be deprived of our flag
After digging a bit: In recent years, the flag of England had come to be associated by some with far-right political groups such as the British National Party and the National Front. Some minorities living in England have stated that they still view the flag with suspicion: during a poll of readers of New Nation, "most black people interviewed said they felt alienated by the flag of St George and still associated it with the BNP"
Does anybody know what happened to Cedric Gracia....And i bet Gee he is a robot...I mean think about it he smoked the compitition. The nearest guy was 5 seconds....5 SECONDS...He has to be a robot. Brits must been working on prototype robots.
Hes probly a war machine that was discontinued during WWII and they decided to bring the program back and they just put him on a bike. They made a whole family of them. Because that whole family rocks on a bike.
There all English and live in Wales. Christ, the way everyones going on about this you'd think Wales and Scotland are foreign countries, were all part of the bigger picture, and I'm thankful for that. Each little country counts for way more together than they do apart.
Why do the girls get less prize money?! They take just as much risk out there...I'm disappointed! Crankworks needs to be more progressive and get with the 21st century.
because only 6 women raced vs. 83 men. And a time difference of 52 seconds between the top six women, versus 6 seconds in the top six men. When it becomes as competitive as the men's racing, it will receive the same prize money.
If Gee takes the elite mens and Lewis takes the juniors it will be amazing, just like 08 when Gee and Ratboy did it, plus Peaty did it last year! Domination!
The UK is producing the riders right now in racing thats for sure! We don't really have the big mountains, nice weather and no real bike industry but what do have must be working because there are more fast kids on the way!
less entries, not as popular to watch, not as much sponsorship potential
it is not sexism!
the real question should be:
how come the 1st place women gets more than the 50th place man...even though they went the same speed.
