Maja W┼éoszczowska live in my city. We were started our tranings in same cycling club in 1995 but then I choose another activities (like drinking, smoking and fun having) and she is right now on podium in RSA and I drink cold beer and cheers for her win Smile

I watched the beginning and I'm pretty curious why don't they use pneumatic seatposts? I guess it would make a huge difference on the rockgardens and logs, not talking about OTB safety... Have UCI banned it? (I won't believe that it's due to the weight savings...)

Anyway, congrats to Maja, awesome start of the season! tup http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgpNJsA7E2k&hd=1 - hell yeah!

They don't use pneumatic seatposts mainly because of weight saving. The relative weight difference of a xc bike with and without a pneumatic post is a lot bigger that the difference on a DH bike with and without it. I don't know the exact numbers, but I imagine the difference in energy consumption is more than noticeable.
And because xc'ers are being xc'ers they don't like adding pounds to their bikes Smile

Most Hydraulic posts are 1.5lbs heavier than a good XC post. And considering the bike and wheels cannot be pounded through the rock gardens hard anyways, seems silly to add that weight.
  • 5 1
Not at all....if you took a total weight weenie carbon XC post such as an Easton EC90 straight post at 190 grams, and the 520 gram Rockshox Reverb, you are only talking a 330 gram difference, which is only .72 lbs heavier.
  • 1 0
yeah, that 1.5 lbs figure is too much.

Times have changed. Back in the days of Tomac, Missy, Tinker, Ned, Furtado, Syder, Travis Brown, Wiens et al I knew the names of the top 30 XC racers, what they rode and what they looked like. These days I don't recognize a single name in XC. I chalk this up to lack of coverage rather than an absence of interest. I don't really care too much for 4X either and find dirt jumping a bit of a bore to watch when mixed into a DH movie, but I know all the names and faces.

The Red Bull coverage is amazing! We having been following the WC DH for a few seasons and never really followed the XC, but with so many cameras on course it made for awesome viewing! We also thought the course was great and nice to see some techy sections that really showed that XC MTB is not just about fitness anymore, you have to be fit and able to handle the tech. Great to hear Rob Warner on the commentary!

she took the win at the rock garden, removing her fingers from the brakes and going on the outer line! it was very impressive! especially on 29'er

There's a link on youtube in this thread but it is lost as the comment is about hydraulic post. It was a great move indeed. Textbook overtaking. And the exit meant more speed into the next corner.
  • 5 0
That was an awesome looking xc course. Those guys are pretty damn talented to be able to ride those frail little xc bikes through the tech sections of that course as fast as they did
  • 5 0
Skill over suspension will always be faster.

Something tells me there are going to be more comments about the DH tomorrow, than the XC today Salute
  • 8 0
haha, so anyways, about that downhill race....
  • 4 1
Another win for the kenda small block 8. Don't recognize one name in the whole race, what time is the 4 X race??? Ehyuyuy oh thats right they trying to save money this year. Just seems weird traveling all over the world with only two types of racing. Is there a super d race or is that banned from uci events also?

 It's proper bullshit that there's no 4x......Frown

We already know that 29ers are taking over the world elite XC scene (emily is pictured above riding her's to second place afterall) what with all the world cup and world championship XC wins the size has accumulated in the last couple years, but now 650B is stomping its way to the podium. It took 29er mountain bikes about 7 years from when the first production model bikes started showing up from major brands to the first world anything win at the elite level yet 650Bs did it much faster. Nino Schurter won the first world cup of this season, a mere 4 years after the first production brand 650B bikes came out on one of the prototype 2013 Scott 650B scales. And to anyone questioning WHY he'd race a 650B over a 29er (which Scott has examples of)... for starters he's not that tall and secondly they're much stronger wheels for slamming rock gardens or taking flight... case in point, these photo of him from the race...

What a great race to watch. Emily could have won if she can improve her performance in the Tech sections.....really slow over the rock gardens, definitely cost her the race. Rob Warner did a great job commentating. I was cool to here him try to learn about XC racing as he went along. You can tell he's gonna bring a lot to the program as the season progresses.

Watched this on Redbull and was well impressed. Plus Warner is there!! Doesn't get quite as excited about XC as he does DH though!! ;-)
