The weekend started off with a steady mist and fog. The 2 hour drive to Jiminy Peak Saturday morning was full of fall colors and winding roads. After settling in to the weekends accommodations, it was off to the mountain for race practice.
The first thing I had to deal with was a leaky fork on my DH bike, which had coated my brake rotor, I cleaned it off with alcohol the best I could and headed up. The fork was leaking so badly that it immediately coated my front brake with more oil making my front brake useless. I rolled down slowly and got on my trail bike to continue practice. I was able to get in 2 runs on that, and on the 3rd time up, I noticed it had a crack in the top tube. That ended Saturdays practice. Luckily Jason Memmelaar was quick to offer me his spare fork to use for the race. Thanks bro! And thanks to Scott Bureau who some brake pads I could buy off him to fix my front brake as well!
The rain came on strong Sat eve and rained pretty hard throughout the night. This turned the race course into a sloppy mess for race day. I was able to get 2 more practice runs in before my race time. The race went as well as it could have for the little practice I got, and with a few costly mistakes, I would end up in 9th for the day. I was just happy to make it down mid pack, and get some series points.
Alex Makarski had a great weekend on his home mountain, he took top spot in CAT 1 19-29 and is the NH state champ. He was feeling rad all weekend and loving the race course, he had a blast, and he could be seen all weekend with a big smile on his face, that smile got a little bigger after his race run, great job Alex!
