by Juice Lubes

Home to Roost is Juice Lubes' celebration of our favourite riders. It's our chance to showcase just how damn fast and stylish they are and how talented they are on two wheels.

For our final episode of the 2019/20 series, we've got the big dog himself, Brendan Fairclough.

After an incredible year of World Cups, travel, adventure, Rampage and more we joined Bren for some eBike fun on his local trails in Surrey, England.

Bren was fresh back from Rampage when we shot and had just recovered from a gnarly crash out in the desert. It was his first 'proper' ride back so was keen to keep it local and just slay some local dirt. No arguments from us!

You can learn more about Juice Lubes at Juicelubes.co.uk.

Thanks to Brendan for having us @Brendog1
Thanks to Chris Greenwood for the photos @cagreenwood

Apparently nothing is sacred. Not even FurClaw.

Just wait til the day e-road bike content slips through... people are gonna lose their minds!

 @robwhynot: "Mechanical doping everywhere pls!"

 Brendog is robbing us now!!!!

Ebikes no, Brendan, go on then.
  • 13 3
Is it just me, but did that bike make Brendog look like a normal rider? I'm pretty sure he usually rails corners. This made him appear like a sluggish version of himself.

@rrolly: The Scott e bikes are weak trail bikes. If you put him on a Specialized Kenevo with a double crown you would be more impressed.

Pretty much every company except Specialized has mis-read the e bike market and are only making boring trail bikes when the real potential for them is self shuttling DH trails. Trashing your pickup tuck or paying for a lift ticket is no longer necessary with DH e bikes.

If they were savvy Scott would turn the Voltage into a DH e bike since they are barely selling it anymore and it has the perfect name for an e bike.

@ButtermilkBar: Somewhat agree but would say Commencal is making a damn fine ebike as well.
  • 6 0
@heatproofgenie: The Commencal SX looks good but still a little more in the enduro category than DH. Even the Kenevo isn't truly DH at 180 travel, I don't understand why everybody is holding back the travel when the bikes have a motor that makes pedaling efficiency pretty much a non factor. I would like to have about 250mm in the rear on a e bike and 200 in the front like the old V 10, along with more adjustable geometry and 200mm dropper post. The E bikes of the future will be mind blowing.

 @ButtermilkBar: I Concur, good sir!
  • 1 0
@ButtermilkBar: EXACTLY. 180MM IS THE MINIMUM WHEN THEY ALL WEIGH FIFTY POUNDS. WHILE GOING 20 ON FLAT PARTS IS COOLER THAN PEDALING AT MY NORMAL 12MPH, THE MOTORS ARE BEST FOR FLYING UP TO THE TOP.

Why are you shouting this is a friendly place @owl-X:
  • 1 0
@ButtermilkBar: Norco Range VLT definitely has dh bike feel. The numbers are almost the same as the new Kenevo, and cheaper with better spec too
  • 1 0
@bradwalton: Yeah hadn't seen that one. Impressed with the 63° ha.
  • 1 0
@ButtermilkBar: Exactly. Intense did the very same thing with the Tazer...

 Et tu, Brendog?

Most regular I've seen Brendan look in a while. It's like his bike is fifty pounds or something.

I never thought I’d watch a video starring Brendan and think “yea I could probably do most of what he just did”

Does that mean all the other brands are, of course, nonsense?

I just came here for the comments..????
  • 3 3
 You did????

I had no idea you required a motor to ride downhill until this video. Thanks Pinkbike!
  • 14 12
I can help you; the clue is that the battery and motor help you do this many runs, however your arms have be strong enough to cope with those descents Wink
  • 21 14
Don't think I've ever seen Brendog look so uncomfortable on a bike.
  • 1 2
That is what happens when you get married!

He was trying to pop on it...but it was having non of it....

E-Bikes The new F-1 of MTB!! 2020 will de the year for E Bikes they will event new racing events and all of our favorite pros will be riding them. From DH , Enduro and XC. You don’t have to be old or handicap to Ride an E Bike. It just takes the hard out of MTB. You can ride more ups to enjoy more DH seems like a win to me. My next bike might definitely have a motor.
  • 11 12
Get one. You won't regret it.
  • 14 3
Take the hard out of mountain biking? Go buy a new couch if that’s what you’re after.
  • 5 3
@CircusMaximus: It's really important for us American's that nothing is hard. Evidently.
  • 2 0
@fuzzhead45: This was a joke. I have heard that there will be Enduro e-bike races where the ups will be more difficult and be judged like trials. If you put a foot down you loose time.. could be interesting.
  • 6 3
@CircusMaximus: Actually getting an e- bike will help get you off the couch. Don't knock it away until you try it. And no. I don't just e-bike. I have a trail bike and a DH bike without motors. Variety rules.
  • 2 2
@BeerGuzlinFool: fair enough. Whatever works for you I guess. I don’t need an ebike to get me going - that’s what my mountain bike and pump track bikes are for.
  • 3 0
Exactly. I live in an area with tons of trail, but not much shuttleable. My heart rate is higher going down hill, so I'ld like to do that more.
  • 3 2
If there was only a better way to keep your chain lubed perfectly?
There is a better way, but for what ever reasons no one is clever enough to make it happen!
  • 5 0
It’s definitely better to lube in your shack or shop instead of on your trail.
  • 2 0
@pinkknip: I would say it is better to lube your chain then cover it up so you do not have to lube or anything else for 6 months or so!
  • 1 0
The ebike segments were not as exciting as the others, but Phil and Leo holy cow!
  • 1 1
legitimation... this is what they try and try and try.. sadly true. Even more worse there are so much people eating that shit for breakfast every day..

What does that "brake cleaner" do? My brake rotors are usually pretty clean after I've used them...

Ha ha for a minute there I thought you said eMTB!
  • 5 6
So obviously sped up it was painful. Shame because watching Brendan rip a corner is normally a pleasure.
  • 6 8
eBike haters: "Oh look, a new eBike article! I hate them so much, I better go in there an complain about them."
  • 3 5
Rad shredding in a rad place!
  • 8 10
He was smiling the whole timeSmile Hate them or love them eMTB are fun!
  • 7 4
Ahem..gets paid. Do You expect him to frown???
  • 1 0
@CircusMaximus: Well maybe you are right, he smiling because he knows he is getting paid this week for riding mountain bikes or eMTBs. Maybe he should look for a bike sponsor that doesn’t put a gun to his head to ride their bikes or eMTB.

"Hey Scott factory drop Brendog and sponsor me I will ride any of your mountain bikes, even the eMTB."
