SIXC: THE WORLD'S LIGHTEST DH RACE CRANK?

photo
Building on the success of their proprietary Canadian carbon manufacturing program, Race Face has made some impressive expansions to the SIXC line of cranks for 2012. The addition of an 83mm spindle, 165mm length and removable granny spider make the 2012 SIXC a formidable DH race option coming in at a scant 650g (165mm, 83mm, 36T ring, including Turbine BB). This is a full 100g lighter than any other full carbon DH crank that we know of.

NEW FOR 2012
• 165/83 Size
• Steel Pedal Inserts - Upgraded from 7075-T6 to CrMo steel
• Fat tab technology - Burly 4.5mm Chainring tab standard

photo
Using Race Face's propriety optimized carbon technology, the SIXC crankset is completely hollow, with all unnecessary material removed from the centre core. The composite arms are 100% carbon with no internal aluminum spine. Here's a look at the guts of a SIXC crank, or rather no guts, just hollow carbon goodness.

SIXC features a specifically engineered, superlight, CNC machined CrMo spindle that directly moulded into the drive side crank arm to minimize weight and maximize power transfer. 3mm of chainline adjustability ensures the ability to achieve perfect drivetrain alignment even with difficult suspension frame designs and is ideal for fine-tuning shifting chainguide set-ups.

New Khyber Elbow teams up with the Khyber Open-Back Knee this season offering hard shell protection with a soft shell look and feel. This isn't just a scaled down version of men's protection; the Khyber is built for female-specific fit.  Brilliant. a hollow crank. As everyone knows, hollow section is stronger. My mate second moment of area says so.

i'm a hardcore RF fan with loads of their parts on various bikes, but please don't pretend to be the lightest.

83 / 170mm

that having said, PLEASE make matching SIXC carbon seatposts, in orange/white decals to match the crank and bar.

This is the lightest, mass produced DH crank that is will be readily available worldwide. Admittedly there may be smaller boutique companies making products that are light and claimed to be at a DH strength, but we would love to see if that crank you point out would pass all the testing standards
