I was there. its completely different looking tv compared to in person. and they were not robbed. the judging was goods. the maccauls lines werent original enough to place them any better then they were. if anything bizet i think bizet shoulda won.
The judges didn't rob anyone of shit. Everyone did awesome, threw down crazy tricks and no one got robbed. I watched the whole thing and everyone placed according to their run. Because everyone was doing crazy tricks, and sending it big, it looked like the judged were looking at how smooth, and fast the whole run was. Anyone throwing a crazy trick on top of the hill got extra points, and the top two guys threw some crazy shit at the top of the hill and didn't save everything for the bottom.
Norby got robbed so bad the back to back 3's were crazy in person and should have gotten a better score, when his score was announced the crowd there booed the judges hard.
I missed it, but I hope that in the future, the judging format doesn't force everyone to tackle the same line (what is unique about this event) and hamper the creativity of the riders. I mean as long as the riders are throwing down and not hitting a set of mini DJ's on a machine built line haha.
The judging was spot on, but Semenuk's transfer drop thingy was the sickest shit I've ever seen. Definitely better than the McCaul canyon gap. It was cool, but Semenuk's was better (even though he did behave like a child at the end).
Bloody right. I thought he looked like a right wanker with that gay ass long hair, but now I've seen his dad, I think he's cool as hell. Wil, I apologise for thinking your hair is gay. I'm just jealous because I'm going bald. Actually it's fantastic, and so is your father's beard. Get some!
Judging!! Where was Alex Pro when we needed him. Could you imagine...gets everyone all crazy and rolls judging tent...maybe light it on fire or something!
Haha!
Congrats Sorge! Solid run. Congrats Cam! Number 2 to the people!!
Didn't really watched the whole rampage but it seems that Lacondeguy did two solid runs too... I think he deserved a better note.
And a question, as I just said, I didn't really looked who was qualified or not, was Fairclough qualified? I wanted to see him send his Canyon gap... No footage?
Alex Pro from what I heard didn't want to compete at all this year due to a high number of concussions... can't blame him for that. Fairclough didn't qualify and didn't attempt the canyon gap during his run... can't blame him for that either haha.
Quit complaining about the judging, whiner's! The best run clearly won, that's the most important thing from a judging standpoint, so they did ok. Cams run had too much boring traversing to be on the podium, all the top guys took more direct lines, which is more high paced and obviously what the judges were looking for.
Next year I bet more riders will be taking the more direct routes....live and learn...
Best pics yet, Pinkbike! Brought back some great memories from yesterday. I agree Semenuk's drop was probably the craziest line.
At the risk of being neg proped. For once i think i agree with protour. No one can complain about sorge winning he ticked every box Bizet dug deep and smashed a harsh line and managed to pull off not one but four backflips, the first way up the course with a difficult run in. No complaints? Binggeli another faultless run down the rougher part of the course pulling back flips and smooth transitions. Again no complaint. Lecondeguy unlucky but his runs where solid enough. Would have like to see more trick dont know why he missed on his second run, attempted a huge backflip there in 2010. With that in mind how were cam and tyler robbed? Cam did some big drops but no a huge trick variety, tyler top half was pretty boring to watch with not a lot going on. Just my opinion. Cant be easy to judge and we dont really know what they where looking for. All i know is that the sport come a long way with pretty much everyone nailing the sender. Who knows what would have happened if Zink, Gee, brendog had been able to compete ( and anyone else ive accidentally forgotten) Great event, loved it
Uhm, 2 years ago Zink 360'd the sender, Wil white throws some flair on his and that's biggest trick off it? Let's be real, Sorge had a solid run, enough to beat the competition.. Wish Aggy had been healthy enough to ride, he no doubt would've thrown down.
@randybadger I agree, but Tyler's intense rhythmic jumps were bigger than anyone else's. With that in mind his line as a whole was debatable. Norbraten though, was robbed, his line was insanely cool and I think he deserved better!
it also broke my heart to see him overflipping after clearing that EPIC cliff transfer drop... and I cannot imagine how he feels after putting up so much effort and heart into building that line... but I believe he will come stronger next year.... just you wait...
Finally a feed of people who aren't complaining about his "bad attitude." Give.him.a.break! Ugh it drives me nuts! If I did that I probably wouldn't have been able to get out as many words as he did.
what a sh*t end to the year for Semenuk! His winning streak seems to have ended and shattered his nerves. I hope he comes back strong and hungry next year.
Also, a lot of the riders when interviewed (and organizers too) were saying "next year at Rampage...". Does this mean they're going to run it every year now instead of every two or was it just a slip of the tongue? I'm sure guys like Claw, Semenuk, Hopkins, Gee, Fairclough, etc, will be so hungry for redemption on the amazing lines they built. Seems a shame to make them wait 2 whole years!!! C'mon Red Bull you know we all want it!
Pretty sure it will become an annual event, considering it's become by far the most anticipated and exciting event in mtb.
Semenuk did great, won the title, and his crash wasn't a full crash. I thought he deserved major props for sorta pulling it out. Kids a fighter and a freeride genius.
With the freeride tour it has a niche rather than just being a one off event. Can't see why it couldn't be an annual event.
It really does sort the men from the boys doesn't it.
just confirming it will now be annual due to national TV contracts, contracts with the landowners etc. after being there for this one i can't say i'll miss another, having an event like this every year is just going to push the sport further and faster.
Even though I don't like Semenuk because he has semen in his name and has a shit hairdo, I feel he is the best rider and probably would have won if he held it togtherther (the transfer drop was sick as fook).
I don't think they should do it every year though, but being American, I'm sure they will. Stick to the formula - create something cool, sell it, find out the fans are going nuts for more, give them more than they can handle and see their appetites for it die. Didn't they almost kill it last time from overdoing it?
Look at every major sporting event in the world... neither of them are held annually. Make the fans wait four years and they'll be hungry like you wouldn't believe. The riders will try that little bit harder too, because there won't "always be next year".
Feelin´ so sorry for Semenuk somehow. Even though he won the overall FMB World Tour. But that transfer drop just seemed so sick, would´ve loved to see him killing this awesome line. I think the judging wasn´t so bad.. except for Cam Mc Caul. He had an amazing run.. So either the judges are f*cking blind, or one really cannot judge a riders run by watching it in front of the TV..
The pics are cool. But, It kicked ass seeing it with my own two eyes! Anyone and everyone who gets the chance should attend this event! Red Bull gave away drinks all day for FREE! The riders were walking around hanging out with the fans. We drank beer with them! It was sweet!
What? No pictures of the bar fights th eBouncer started? We left because of his atttitude....He tried to start a fight with Wil White as we were coming in, Guy is a f*cking Jerk, and has no business working a door...
Hang on.... what was all that about the Oakley sender getting an overhaul with a third line coming before the event?? No photos of anyone hitting the smaller line- and no evidence of there ever being a third bigger line!! Oh well.
It was a sick event- such a shame about the judging. I'd be spitting feathers if I had thrown myself into death defying manoeuvres and not get rewarded for it. Just shows what a legend Cam McCaul is.
If you're talking about the line that runs under the sender, Soderstrom and someone else sent it. Other than that the only changes were an improved landing, it was moved a foot forward and a less drastic roll in... not sure what this 3rd option is that you're talking about.
Yeah, I though this. There was a drawing on here somewhere of a third line to the left of the sender (as you look at it), but it never happened it seems.
Strange... guess it was a very early design. They had the actual specs draft of the sender tacked onto the actual structure and I thought it looked very similar to the one on pinkbike they put up a while ago.
I thought the same. My guess is that they realised it would have had to share the same landing as the original sender, which was massive, but it would have been about 10m higher. If they built it, I don't think anyone would have done it. If the original sender was 50x50ft, the top line would have been 80x80 or something ridiculous.
Nah it wasn't close to that big of a drop. Just guesstimating I'd say the drop was around 25-30ft. vertical and the gap out... not sure at all but around 30ft. seems to be the ballpark.. which is absolutely massive, haha.
You know, looking back, I'm surprised that Andreu didn't hit the canyone cause it really suits his style of full speed big jumps.. Infact, it amazes me only Cam hit it in the race.
Its true, C-Mac and Zink were both getting bucked forward when practising the jump, they both crashed due to it, Zink harder unfortunately, the gap was sick but this years judging concentrated too much on the WHOLE line and getting to the canyon gap meant a boring ridge line run for 1/3rd of the riders line, which scored them too low, I personally thought T-mac's line was better anyway with all his huge step downs, after watching through the event again I actually think the judging was fairly well spot on, big 1 (or 2) hit wonder runs didn't take the cake due to the judging criteria.
How can you say that the take off didnt match the landing? Were you there to see it? I was. I sat under it in the shade and talked with the riders about it....... they all like it. Nothing wrong with it. A ton of the riders hit it.
I don't understand how so many lame sports can get to the tv on normal channels, like tennis or something. If you compare this with some of those "not-so-interesting" Sports, this one should be at least on one of the sports channels. This sport is so crazy, love it.
Wil White, 18 and sending it .. new breed of riders comeing up , can't wait till the next Rampage,, Zink will be back and next time the kid will hit podium , Wil White. . Sorge deserves the win and Norb and Dorf destroyed that place. The McCaul brothers are a breed apart form all, they just RULE...give it up for the Claw though takeing the craziest line of all ,, no one took the same line as his,, holding true to creativity .. The Godfather..
Every rider that showed up to that event deserves mad respect, one day I ill see this live to get the real experience. And not deny that some riders deserved higher scores, I could not imagine trying to judge an event like this
These pics have such better perspective than the broadcast. Those film dudes could learn a thing or two about getting shots that really show how crazy this place is. Helli shots are nice but close ups work so much better.
What an awesome event, all the riders out there gave everything for our sport, looking forward to the edited for TV version. Agree with everyone who thinks the judging was off, does anyone know if there were real riders on the panel other than Bender? Gotta say, feel like Norbraten got the short end of the judging stick. I think he should have scored in the 73-77 range.
Nice shots.By the way where the H$%%K are they taking from those judges. .Is it really so hard to find someone that will at least know something bout this discipline ...or is it all for the screaming crowd ;/ Anyway PROPS FOR ALL RIDERS AND THEIR HUUUDGE WORK OUT THERE BRAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice shots! I wonder how Redbull felt about Kurt and Cam wearing their Rockstar hats :-) Anyone know what the prize money was for the top three finishing spots?
Well folks its over...in retrospective I must say it was kinda dissapointing yet entertaining to watch after all the hipe which was made before !
Yes, judging was a bit messed up and some other people should have been on the podium but in general it was great outdoor entertainment...not more not less !
Wasn't "stoked" like everyone else watching it, judges were simply ruining my mood. All riders built so large yet wouldn't do anything to hit them or throw down to the hype this year was amped up to be.
they definitely got the top two riders right on. can't just roll the ridge if you want to be top 3. if semunuk would've had clean run, he easily would've gotten first, his huge drop transfer was definitely the move of the day...imo
Hell yeah! Personally, I'd take a 650b 6x6" All-Mtn bike, but that's just for what I do... He proved the rolling mass didn't hold the bike - or him - back at all!
something is messed up with the fmb points. Why is it that a guy competes in one event and wins but does not compete in any other event get third over all.
I said on pinkbike after the last rampage the judging was terrible. And I got negative props! Well I was right then and just proved right again this rampage. I wish the online community would have ripped the judges after the last rampage, then maybe we could have decent judges this year.
You should know that where you live they have being speaking Spanish way longer than English why do you think is call Rancho Santa Margarita.
was so stoked watching this last night semenuk was my favorite for the win he was unlucky major props to all the riders and redbull for hosting in my view the best event ever
I'd rather have a Status at this point... newer design, simpler (regardless of the Demo's reputation, I've owned one, I like them), and like they said, easier to work with in this instance. I like that rig, I really do...
No... those are my reasons for liking the new design... my personal, prior-to-this-event reasons.
I just know that it's a good bike, and it seems to hold up to the riding as well as crashing, seeing as two of the guys on them did just that.
But those two reasons are fairly good reasons are they not? New design that is definitely not a bad design, and simplicity especially at an event like this where you may need to make changes on the fly would certainly be good reasons.
Yeah, it was...
I can't wait to see the new P.Slope in my LBS!
I'm getting either a Status II and putting a Lyrik on it, or an Enduro Evo and riding it's balls off.
does not compute
And a question, as I just said, I didn't really looked who was qualified or not, was Fairclough qualified? I wanted to see him send his Canyon gap... No footage?
