Legendary in every way and boasting one of the greatest MTB careers in history, Steve Peat has cemented his racing legacy into history. Not unlike his racing career, Peaty’s official documentary ‘Won’t Back Down’ is also the stuff of legends, and achieves what few mountain bike films can ever hope to - a truly heartfelt and amazing story with balls to the wall riding.

Pinkbike and the Sea Otter Classic are absolutely stoked to present the premiere of Clay Porter and John Lawlor’s masterpiece, ‘Won’t Back Down’ at Monterey’s Golden State Theatre on Friday April 11, 2014. Tickets are $12, doors open at 7:30 pm, movie starts at 8pm.

Peaty’s tenure as a racer has spanned the past 23 years, and the man from Steel City is still killing it on and off the track. With a passionate and unmatched following, Peat has inspired, coached and supported entire generations of riders and racers in the UK and around the world. Handily sweeping the field in the recent Pinkbike Poll: What Legend Do You Want To Ride With?, it’s safe to say Steve is probably the most well known and loved mountain biker.

Unless you re one of the few in the world that can stay ahead of Steve on a DH bike you re going to need a motor to get shots like this
An American an Irishman and a crane in the depths of Wharncliffe polishing off the introduction to the movie. Moving this amount of equipment through the woods is no easy task but Clay won t settle for anything other than the best.
Porter and Lawlor have put together an instant classic with this film - not one person in attendance Friday night will walk out of the Golden State Theatre untouched by the story of Steve Peat.

This is def one of the best biking movies you will ever see. It shows you a great picture of how the sport has developed through the last 20 years and just how different what we now know as downhill racing is compared to those early days. Amazing snips of footage from Peatys career that will ( if you have followed downhill for the last 10 to 20 years ) make you almost cry for the man because of all of the SO CLOSE moments at word champs. Seeing Nico's dominance for so long and the arrival of a certain Shaun Palmer on the scene back in the day was also very interesting, but if you are a big Steve Peat fan then this movie is a must see. Possibly Clay Porter and John Lawlor's best work

So cool to see a starring credit for Jason McRoy. Most kids these days don't know who he is but he was one fast dude back in the early 90's and a super nice guy. I met him when he was riding for Hardesty Cycles I think the name was. I can't wait to see that part of the film RIP Jason

I got tearful at the mcroy section cos I knew what was coming but also welled up at the sam hill val di sole 2008 footage - mainly at how awesome that ride was until the crash. It goes without saying the peaty emotional bits got me as well. what also struck me was how the likes of even cedric gracia looked ungainly riding those bikes in the mid-to- late 90s. the only rider who looked smooth was Vouillloz watch it

What got me was how many rides had come and gone and Peaty was still here, riding, racing and improving with the competition.

At 2:56 I nearly stood up in my chair and started saluting Peaty with tears going down my cheek. This looks like a fantastic documentary. I wish all these film makers who are shooting current riders would take a moment to point their cameras at some of this sport's pioneering athletes and start making more films about these guys. There are so many great athletes in this sport and I'm sure I speak for a lot of the younger guys today when I say it would be cool to learn a few things about the history of something that we all love so much. Just sayin. I'll stop being cerebral now.

Did everyone who has watched this actually cry, or are you just saying that because you want to prove your love for Steve Peat or something? Should I prepare myself mentally to cry while watching this film, or is everyone just "emotional"?

It's pretty emotional in spots. Great movie.

I thought I was gonna cry when he won the worlds !

See, this movie is perfect for everyone: 1) Those who love Steve Peat and need more reasons to, 2) Those who dislike him (total of 0 people) and need to be corrected, 3) Those who are sarcastically asking who he is, and 4) Those who don't know who he is and should learn.

He's riding through the winning celebration after what was one corner short of a winning run, he crashed on pretty much the last corner. I think it was Fabien Barel who won but could be wrong
