When you think back to the first time you rode a bike, overwhelming feelings of joy and accomplishment come to mind. That first taste of independence comes back, your self esteem rises and you remember believing that anything is possible. Many children across the globe will never have this experience, or cherish memories like these. We don’t want anyone to miss out on owning their first bike and experiencing these breakthroughs, so Pinkbike and Trailforks created the Share the Ride Foundation.

Teaming up with our sponsors and distributors globally, Share The Ride raises money to bring disadvantaged children from all over the world the opportunity to share the joy of being on two wheels by providing them with bicycles, helmets and locks. Since its inception in 2013, the foundation has raised over $155,000 and brought smiles to hundreds of children around the world including the Czech Republic, India, Poland, USA, Canada, UK, Australia, South Africa, Taiwan and NZ.

Last year Share the Ride surpassed its 2016 goal and raised $45,390. Underprivileged children around the globe got to understand the immense satisfaction that owning a bike can bring. This year our goal is to raise $48,000 and distribute even more bikes globally! So put today’s coffee money towards stoking some kids out, and making their holiday season a wheely wheely good one. Visit www.pinkbike.com/sharetheride to donate!

Once again, our industry friends have come to the table with tons incredible prizes for you to win, with more being added all the time. Here's what's up for grabs so far...

Yeah, already donated (because of the banner ad on top). Keep it up, everyone should be in the position to ride a bike. Can't imagine life with. Couldn't go to work, school, shopping, bring the kids to school, to the pub or drop by friends... and go mountainbiking of course. Make it happen!

PinkBike work with Indiegogo on Share The Ride and they do not have any power on the payment systems available
Indiegogo has decided to stop using PayPal sometime ago. They have a press release on their site, but it does not really say why.
I think this happened because PayPal have implemented a new algorithm that locks accounts that have received large amounts of money too fast. Sometimes they block the user access only to the money received in a certain period of time (or to the money you have in your account and have not used for a certain period of time).
Paypal has said that the reason for this is to avoid illegal transactions.
The biggest issue is that Paypal cannot be bothered and really take their time to investigate if the lock is on a real illegal transaction, or a false positive (up to a month).
One way to avoid having this issue is for the seller/GrouBuyRunner/campaigner to issue invoices for each amount (also pay a tax to paypal for each invoice issued).
But, donations based campaigns, like Share the Ride, are based on donations and do not use invoices.
I hope you have a better idea now why paypal suck.

source: I was part of 2 group buys organized through paypal and the money were locked for a month.

Pinkbike - how does one get a charity hooked up with one of these giveaways? I've been following this local program for a while now:

www.richcityrides.org/earn-a-bike-program

No personal affiliation, but great respect for what they do. Rehab used bikes for local kids. Let the kids earn their bike by working in the shop.

Such an awesome cause. I always look forward to seeing the joy that bicycles can bring to children around the world (or in our own backyard). Great work PinkBike!

trying to donate, but due to a combination of stripe's screwy backend, and my bank, I can't... will only allow it if the zip/postal code (and indiegogo seems to think they're one in the same) matches what the bank has... IF the bank uses it for a third verify measure, otherwise... it gives you the proverbial middle finger.

I'm just buying a new Ramones 16 for my son and I know how dear and important can be a bike for a 3 y.o. kid so I'll be more than happy to donate.
  • 1 0
he will love it! i bought a 16' for my oldest 3years ago, and it was handed down to my youngest son last year, my oldest got a Ramones 20 to replace it.... very cool bikes... gets lots of envious comments from kids and dads alike...

With my luck they would ask me a question I couldn't answer and I'd get DQ'ed

"The winners will be notified by e-mail and asked a mountain bike related knowledge question."

Nah, I guess you'll be fine. I think it is more like one of those anti-robot measures so that the prize goes to a real person. You know, like when you enter a web form and then have to click all pictures with a car on them? Something like that but then in a mountainbike context.
  • 2 0
 Google can answer any question
  • 5 0
@vinay: ya, we still might be screwed in that case. You ever click on the pictures because part of the car was in it? I never won an argument with those captcha things.

I'd love to see Share the Ride with e-bike as the main prize...
  • 10 1
Would make someone with a disability really happy.
  • 3 0
I think share the ride desires to actually get donations
  • 1 0
For a cause like this hopefully the people in the pinkbike community would still donate no matter what the prize was!
  • 1 0
You don’t have be disabled to benefit from e-bikes....we’ll be old someday and a quad e-bike would help a lot around the house...maybe open to trail access by then!!
  • 1 0
@drivereight: you missed my point but yes you're right. I feel ebikes are great for disabled, those with limited mobility AND old folks.
