Maydena Bike Park, if you've heard of it, I'd gamble that you'd be stoked, if you haven't heard of it, you're about to be stoked.

Located in the South West of Tasmania, the Australian mountain biking scene is about to be changed\ for the better, the first instance I felt this was when I walked along 20 metres of fire road and passed 5 trail heads, all different grades.

The terrain changes so much it's like riding in so many different areas at once. Alpine at the top, natural Australian bush mixed into rain forest. The concept of the park is so far different to anything else in Australia, they are using all possible height of the mountain, starting with a trail right from the summit building, descending into what ever type of trail you would like to ride, wild technical, flow or back country adventure.

One thing that really struck me is the creative freedom the trail builders of Dirt Art have, the crew is mostly built up of young Tasmanians and a core group of workers, once they've been given direction of where the trail should generally go, the rest is up to them and the trails certainly reflect this when you ride them. You'll find trails named after people when you ride them and this explains who the builder was and their concept behind the trail.

The town of Maydena has a population of around 250 people and has a personable feel to it, every person you come across will wave and say hello to you, very friendly and more than happy to have a chat. The bike park is expecting to double that number and are expecting around 250 people to be riding the park on any given day, increasing the economy of not only Maydena but of Tasmania and given that tourism is one of Tasmania's biggest ways of employment, this suits perfectly.

Crankworx, World Cup DH, Enduro World Series.. just a few of the global events that Maydena have in their sights.
Don't surprised when it happens, all I'm saying.
