Words: Ben Plenge - The Strength FactoryTwo weeks ago, I posted a video to Pinkbike about MTB fitness for over 40s riders. It had already gone down well on YouTube and had lots of positive comments, so when it got picked up by Pinkbike, I was pretty stoked. That was, until the negative comments started to roll in from a small but highly motivated group of pedal-powered purists, mostly focusing on the fact that I had the audacity to record a fitness video whilst riding an E-Bike. In fact it went totally crazy, with some full on arguments going down between members on both sides. If you want to check out the video and the (296 at the time of writing) comments, then you can do so here:
https://www.pinkbike.com/news/mtb-fitness-for-over-40s-riders.htmlAmongst the comments I became aware of lots of opinions about E-MTB and how they relate to your fitness, mostly inferring that by simply buying an E-Bike you would become lazy, fat and slow. Spurred on by the comments and with many years of riding pedal assisted bikes alongside my pedal bikes, I wanted to set the record straight and give my thoughts and experiences on how an E-Bike can be a great tool for developing and improving fitness. It is all about how you use it.......
