by Nick Bentley
After the dust had settled at the UK National Downhill Championships at Rhyd Y Felin, we attempted to grab all the bikes of the newly crowned National Champions. However, as expected, trying to catch people during the excitement of winning a race of this magnitude it was a bit like herding cats. Although we did manage to catch eight of the newly crowned Champs for you to enjoy their downhill weapons of choice.

I think Atherton bike is best looking of them all. Lovely straight lines.

 I agree, just gorgeous.

Yep and now the Pivots have gone straighter - they look nicer too. Don't a fan of the beer belly of some of the others haha

@thingswelike: I suppose shock placement plays a big part in it looking good. others having to work around the shock.

 ...and the Tellum marketing begins!
  • 3 1
Front is an Assegai, and they only come in 27.5 & 29. Definitely looks a little off though.
  • 2 0
@joehollindrake: One can zoom in and see the front tyre is 27.5. Just a weird angle.
  • 1 1
Rear wheel is sitting higher up. Ground isn't level.
  • 1 0
Just call it a reverse mullet so that one guy can have an aneurysm

 @jaame: ultimate xc setup

Canyon Sender is just such a good looking frame

 That Jekyll is a Munter
  • 5 0
 Munter.....funny story.......

Backyard drinks one Saturday lead to the girls "hunting for mint" to make Mojitos. Someone said, you guys should go "munting" (mint hunting).

It was then revealed (by urban dictionary) that "Munting" is entirely something of a different activity

Is it just the camera angle or has the mens masters pivot got a bigger wheel at the back?
  • 1 0
 Camera angle/ground angle
  • 1 0
Camera angle, they all look like they have a bigger rear
  • 3 0
Tyre logos and crank arms... Tut tut

I would like to see the winning run done on that Jekyll. Must have been rowdy!!!!

Is it just me or is the Jekyll downright hideous?

Where are the water bottle mounts? These can't be real mountain bikes.
  • 1 2
the Saracen Myst has a quad piston rear and a dual piston front, I haven't seen any bikes setup like that recently in any world cups. (correct me if im wrong)
  • 2 0
you are wrong mate, both brakes are 4-piston
  • 1 2
@cisrtom: What are you on about mate it is clearly a dual piston XTR on the front
  • 1 0
@gabrielmedd1: XTR 4 pots front and rear.

 No men's Vets?
  • 1 0
 Last bike....
  • 1 0
@Afterschoolsports: photo says masters, 30plus. There was definitely some vets 40plus when we watched practice,
  • 3 0
Unfortunately the change to how podiums were done meant that I was still up the hill when the Vets had there podium. I did try and find the winners but couldn’t
  • 3 0
@Mandownmedia: Older men's Vets winner was Will Longden who was riding one of Matt's spare bikes so...
  • 3 0
John Cobb was half way home when the Elites came down (still pretty sure he picked up a Bronze and not Gold medal lol)
Will Longden borrowed a bike and smoked us.

Is there some reverse Mullets going on there????
  • 2 0
No, just a little instagram influenced camera angles making the rear ends look larger. If you zoom in on the tires they are matched.
  • 1 2
@tkrug: Excellent. Like all bikes should have.
