I bet those fox techs are really good at freshening up those X2s.

 You mean replacing.

More privateer content please. These Gal’s/guy’s are absolute heroes.

Lapierre racing on blank V10? ummm. Ok. Is there a super secret prototype they're running away from races?

Those are not Zipp wheels either. Not sure what that team does other than write cheques to other companies.

I also am very confused by this “collective”

Not sure about the exact details, but essentially Antoine Rogge is part of the Lapierre team to race ebikes. He races DH as a privateer with his own equipment as Lapierre do not have a DH bike.

the new sram caliper just looks dated

easier / cheaper to produce a split caliper for prototyping, be interesting to see if the final released version is a monoblock...
  • 37 3
Split calipers tend to be stiffer when built to mtb dimensions. Hopefully they stick with the split layout. And christ, if anything should stick to the function-over-form mantra, brakes definitely should...

I don’t care how good the media says SRAM brakes are. I hates them! Never had a good experience with Codes, Guides, G2, whatever. Sticking with my Hayes Dominicans. Best brakes the Caribbean has to offer!!!

@aks21: I'm kinda stuck with Shimano since I spent all the money on that bleed kit 8 years ago.

@aks21: I just came back from an alps / Italy biking trip with two lads on Code brakes. They both hated their codes simply for the fading on long descents. They were trying different compounds, putting fresh pads in every other day etc, but the brakes were still crap. One bought hope tech v4 whilst on the trip and the other saints when he got back. My saints were mint on the trip, just needed a lever bleed every 30,000 ft of descending which takes 1 minute

@notphaedrus: galfer pads and 220mm rotors helps a lot. But yes it is crazy how stock codes can overheat into complete failure within 30s on a fast and steep track.
  • 1 0
@Mugen: that’s what they were using. Galfer semi sintered pads and 220mm hope 2.3mm discs.
  • 7 0
@Mugen: the HS2 rotors make a night and day difference for codes. IMO SRAM is shooting themselves in the foot by not spec'ing them from the factory. Yes it'll be more expensive but it lets the codes actually do what they're intended for.

It looks like the Avid Code 5 Brake Caliper. I didn't like my Codes for a bit but I tried experimenting
with them a lot. I found out that these breaks are freaking awesome when you do this:

Buy pressurized dot 5 fluid, I got mine from Ducati or Porsche dealer and never shake that bottle, hook up your syringes, put you block in, do your fluid change as the manual says, remove the block, from the leaver push the fluid in so the calipers move a bit toward the disc, get all your bubbles out, remove the syringes and close and put the bolts back in on the caliper and lever, push out the pistons on the caliper.

You will experience no brake like that, when its done right. I'm 200lbs with 200mm rotors and they don't fade at all, its crazy for that work but really they are the best brake with crazy modulation, the Saints and TRP are and ON/OFF brake, you tap them your going to stop, for me, too quick, I like the throw to judge how much braking power needed.
  • 2 0
@notphaedrus: Magura for me. Sram just don't work and had too many inconsistent Shimano. Mt7 pro feel like you could stop a run away truck!!
  • 1 0
@aks21: I have both Codes and Dominions and I like both for different reasons. I like both much more than the TRP and Shimano brakes I've owned in the past, although admittedly I haven't tried the new TRP DHR Evos. Apparently I'm the only person to ever like Codes...

Really should be saying "Vivid Coils for the Forbidden team". Put the proper name on those, SRAM!

@M4tt12: I just noticed all of SRAM's shock names are just adjectives...
