We headed out around Les Gets to see what we could find in the XC pits
Some privateers were working out the back of their cars on the roadside
It was a full strip and service happening through the resilience of privateers just to make it work wherever they are. It's so amazing to see
One beautiful custom-painted Santa Cruz again with Flight Attendant fitted
Martina Berta's custom blue paint looks so good
The Rockrider Ford pit always looks so good and it's amazing to see big brands at the World Cup!
All the colours going on
The Rockrider enduro bike was sat in their pit this weekend too
Plenty of wheels hanging around
Fresh cassettes going on a Lapierre
It's not just lefty forks that make the Cannondale unique. They are one of the few teams still running a non-electric drive train
I love the paint on the BH Lynx bikes
One very clean freehub ready to go on
Quick pressure check before heading out for practice
Not all mechanics go for foam cut tool boxes, some times simple is best
Flight Attendant is appearing on more and more bikes in the XC field
The performance gains must be worth it given it must add weight
The paint on these SIDs looks so good
A little extra carbon reinforcement around the brake mount on this raw Specialized. It's really cool to be able to see the carbon
Everyone loves a super clean toolbox
One Liv almost ready for the track
Nino's Scott Spark looks ready to go for training. I'm a big fan of the new colours on this bike
A dry, fast track means out come the super slick tyres
Plates ready to go on at KMC
Nino has the new SRAM shifter fitted to his race bike
He also uses the standard shifter pod on the other side, with the top button working his suspension lockout and the bottom button controlling his dropper
An aptly very orange tent for KTM and a fresh build going together
Custom-painted bikes really are the best
The CubeAMS ZERO99 is a really clean-looking XC bike
Simple but effective electrical tape cable management on this Cube
Another roadside pit from a small team
The Rockrider Ford race team has some prototype Hutchinson tyres this weekend in Les Gets
They also had one of TRP's new rotors on their bike too
They are an updated version of an existing tyre and that's all the team could say
The BiXS pace BPRT is the race bike used by the BiXS performance race team with 110mm of travel front and rear
With a full set of DT Swiss suspension
Plenty of work to be done for the Fox team
A full rebuild of a transfer SL in Fox
The rear shock got some love too
Full suspension service going on in the Manitou pit
The fork got fully stripped, rebuilt and re-torqued up
Even the team bikes get some love
Early morning work going on at Liv

What a gorgeous blue paint job on that SC! I want to throw a leg over that thing and compete, even if for only a quarter mile before I'm spat out the back! Keep these photo epic coming. Can't get enough.
Oh what's that new shifter Nino is running? Have never seen it before and can't seem to find it on the SRAM website... Kinda makes sense that they would create a new one as the new pod controllers are kinda annoying to use
Not sure, but I'd really like to get two of the new pods for each bar an I can setup my shifting like my gravel bike and then use the bottom button on either bar for the dropper.
@bmied31: that's actually not a bad idea... I find the bottom button on the new pod quite awkward to reach (if you set it up so the top one is comfy) and this would solve that annoyance... Still wouldn't solve the "issue" of not being able to shift with your index finger from the back of the pod like you could on the old one (or in this new one Nino is using)
We've been seeing pics of the return of "the captain" tire from specialized for over 1.5yrs now. Still nothing from them nor on their website. Looks like an even smaller knob version of the Rekon Race. Just curious if it blows up as wide as the Rekon Races do.
still surprised that with all the electronic tech and such that's on the market, that most racers are stuck with the Scott twinlock lever to lock/unlock suspensions and actuate the dropper. In the age of cable integration and such, it just makes no sense to have 3 added cables to your bars...
I never got the hate for cable on pinkbike. It's pretty funny because PBer also hate integration. Being able to adjust you setup between 3 mode is great. The spark is close to a trail bike in open mode which is awesome but you absolutely need more support when pedaling hard, so intermediate mode is perfect whenever a lot of pedaling is involved. Locked for road or out of the saddle effort on smooth surfaces. Nothing beat that for performance XC riding.
Automatic adjust between mode is a nice little touch but is no game changer because adjusting yourself just work.
@dsciulli19: that’s really only true if you have the braking traction to make use of the bigger rotors though. I’d think with the minimal tires most of these racers are running, the advantage of the larger rotor would be minimal. Doesn’t take much lever force to lock up a semi slick even with a 160mm rotor.
I don't see that many beefy brakes besides the magura mt8's on the cube (which are still 2 pot)... The 4 piston Level are actually lighter than the 2 piston variant for whatever reason, and everyone else seems to be running 2 piston xtr or 2 piston level.
@shreditlikeitshot: was wondering the same. Why go 2 piston if 4 piston is lighter and better for braking? Maybe it's just a commercial thing to clear the inventory; if pro uses 2 pistons, people will buy 2 pistons... but I can't see any reason why someone would go with the level 2 pistons.
@LMich: I mean, 2 piston is not bad per se. Formula makes a great 2 piston brake (cura) that is way more powerful than level 2 piston and might even be better than level 4 piston. The only advantage I find is that it's a bit easier to get them set up right and have the two pistons move nicely together. On the other hand, if your tires don't have traction, even 6 pistons won't slow you down faster
looks like a big difference in rolling resistance when comparing Nino's semi slick to that Hutchinson tire. That's gotta make a huge difference in energy required over an xc race.
Not so sure that automotive money entering in the XC world it's only a positive thing....said from one ho worked 14 as automotive supplier...
Absolutely not sure that automotive money entering in the bike industry it's a real gain for the bike industry....
Educate me- I see two s-works factory bikes. One is an epic, w/ this flight attendant thing, one is an epic world cup with a SID + shock. Which rider gets one vs the other?
@jcrr#34 is Victor Koretzky's bike, and #39 is Christopher Blevins' bike. It's the rider's choice which bike they ride at each race. Usually it's a choice between their sponsor's full suspension and hardtail race bikes, but unlike most companies Specialized makes two different XC race full suspension models alongside their hardtail model.
(just) Epic (Brain), Epic Evo*, Epic World Cup. [*run suspension as sold to the public (sans lockout), run with regular/manual lockout, run with flight attendant automatic/electronic lockout].. plenty of choice for Specialized Factory Team riders..
@jf45: Over the course of this season, judging by the Factory Colorways, some of those frames look like they're an Epic Frame minus the Brain with either a standard lockout or the Flight Attendant. Some of the Non-Brain bikes head angles also look too steep for an EVO Frame.
Rockrider Ford seems to have appeared from no where. I like to watch the xc, watched more than DH this year, but cant say it’s a team I've noticed before.
The team has come alive this year, but Decathlon/Rockrider/B'twin have been on the circuit few years back (early 2000s I think ?) I also think that Ford is a late addition to the sponsors' list, but it's cool to see a big player involved on an XC team !
It would look better with headset routing, but, as a mechanic, headset routing is an absolute nightmare, especially because some bikes don't have designated slots for housing.
