Forty years of mountain bike evolution in two photos - Ritchey circa 1970's and Ritchey circa 2013.
Mike Hopkins of Norco Bikes is one of the only dual-discipline athletes in mountain biking. His other sport is skiing. I wonder which sport he prefers?
Unable to participate at the Leogang world cup this weekend, due to a broken collar bone, Bryn Atkinson decided to come and hang with the rest of us mortals in Las Vegas.
Sarah Leishman of Norco Bikes wears many hats (except this day). Not only is she a pro mountain biker, but she also organizes the Deep Summer photo challenge in Whistler BC.
"I'm not a criminal". Duncan Riffle of Sram.
Race Face athlete Katrina Strand, keeping up appearances and the mood at the indoor show.
Winner of the most feel-good booth at Interbike, Giro.
Whenever Dave Watson of Sombrio gets a little squirrelly from standing in one spot for too long, he simply walks outside, grabs a bike, and rocks a couple of laps on the Sombrio portable pump track.
Paul Bassagotia is involved with a very cool project as of late; he's taken filming with a remote helicopter to the next level. His new single blade, $100,000 electric helicopter can carry a RED epic camera, and flies smoother and faster than anything out there. No pilot's license required.
Kevin Waterbury of Knolly Bikes. Knolly has yet to charge into the carbon game, but with their beefiest model: the Podium, weighing in at 34 pounds, with a DH build kit and the new Suntour Rux forks, who cares?
Winner of the booth that makes you feel like you're in Stanley Kubrik's 2001: A Space Odyssey... POC.
Cannondale's Mark Weir, always up for a portrait. Possibly one of the most likeable pro mountain bikers you will ever meet.
Ruben Salzberger, owning the Rocky Mountain Booth at this year's indoor show.
Kyle Strait will be heading to the Red Bull Rampage site to start scoping his lines pretty much right after Interbike ends. In it to win it.
Mountain Bike Hall of fame inductee, Juli Furtado, poses in front of her Juliana/Santa Cruz line of bikes. Juli was unbeatable for almost five years on the pro XC circuit, and also pulled off a world championship for DH in Mont Saint Anne Quebec.
PB's Richard Cunningham, holds up the real Giro d'Italia Cup, which was on open display at the front entrance to the indoor show. That's biking's equivalent to walking into a hockey arena, grabbing the Stanley Cup off a not-so-well-guarded table, and hoisting it in the air for all your friends to make you Instagram famous.
Richie Schley, one of the original freeriders who is arguably responsible for why we love to come to Whistler to ride bikes, now spends his winters in Laguna California, slaying the local trails with longtime bros, Hans Rey and Brian Lopes.
Mountain bike icon, John Tomac. John may be one of the only athletes to have raced, and won major titles in every discipline of biking: BMX, Cross-Country, Road, and Downhill.
Aaron Chase getting all Go-Pro on me. You'll see Aaron this year at the Red Bull Rampage manning the Go-Pro "Chase" cam.
Cory Sutela, one of the Sram test engineers giving the two finger salute to you. The 157,979 is the number of bikes they have donated to third-world countries.
Andreas Hestler of Rocky Mountain Bikes and Dave Watson of Sombrio cheers it out after a long, long day at the indoor show.
Hahaha what because coverage of all the biggest brands and some emerging brands at least once a day, on the day, with high quality photos and info, all for free isn't enough for you? Let PB have their fun...
Yeah sure that's all great and they can have all the fun they want it's just that I don't think they need to post it because it's irrelevant to all pb users because we weren't there
Surely the people in mountain biking are what drives the products shown at this show? A little exposure for them and a bit of fun at a long exhibition is the least they deserve, plus it's cool to see who makes the stuff we buy! Don't like the article? Don't read it man...
the irony here is that we all still look at all the photos and articles no matter what. everyday we see pinkbikers complain, but no one seems to be leaving. reminds me of the people who hated on howard stern but still listened to his show on a daily basis. "the people who love howard stern listen because they want to hear what he'll say next. the people who hate howard stern listen because... they want to hear what he'll say next."
exactly I always read all the posts on the homepage, even if i don't find them really interesting. Its great seeing all the stuff/people at interbike, shows its not only about the latest goods but also shows the people who are there representing and the locations where the event is happening, almost like going there yourself!
thanks for the great coverage PB but please show some more dh/fr stuff please
Haha hey dhwtf you could wait a month for all those nice pictures of kool mtn bike stuff to show up in a magazine. I bet u still looked at a all the pictures and even looked in the background to see if there were any secret preproduction parts too.
It's Interbike, 99% of the show is either current models you already know about, or generic Chinese frames looking for their spot at Walmart. With Crankworx, and Eurobike the new product releases are getting pretty spread out, and Pink Bike readers don't really care about most new cycling products anyway (Road bikes, XC gear, lycra, etc).
I can see all the new parts of manufacturer's websites, don't care about Pink Bike's photos of them. I want a real review after the PB editors put some miles on the new gear.
I don't really "get" the peace sign or middle finger photos, but Riffle's shirt kicks ass, and WTF is the octopus thing over Kevin Waterbury's shoulder? Random BS is really the only reason to attend Interbike anyway.
came to look at and read information about interbike, left with portraits of people giving the peace time. Stop f***ing it up pinkbike. Nobody cares about the bike "famous" people who go to conventions.
I'm not sure it's a jab. Imagine you'd taken all those photos and tried to do something different to bring some life to an otherwise boring set of photos, and then everyone thinks what you've done is in bad taste. I'm sure Margus felt pretty bad about it.
Reading the comments, I just get the feeling that most people want to see products more than they want to see people.
I am so offended by this, we're not all Americans on here you know, it doesn't all mean the same thing throughout different cultures, some kind of explicit cultural warning would have been nice. Where im from, the Naremburn tribal lands, this gesture is to shun, show dis-concern for worthiness or label something/someone as worthless. Not impressed.
haha. Everyone threw a hissy fit over getting flipped off, so now we're getting peaced off. It wasn't personal, people. Haven't you seen that famous picture of Johnny Cash with the finger out? It's more a symbol of rebellion than an actual attack against you. Stop whining.
Since when is calling out a major fiasco in history whining? Was the American revolution, women's rights movement, abolition of slavery, and the reformation whining? I didn't think so.
the internet just makes it super easy for people to bitch and complain in comfort and anonymity, without the risk of anyone seeing who they actually are. once one person complains, it opens the floodgate for everyone else to chime in when they normally wouldn't. accountability goes out the window. sad, really.
@lumberjerk Dude, they gave the finger to a camera lens in a context we don't even know about. Relax. Calling it a major fiasco in history and comparing it to women's rights movement and the abolition of slavery is pretty much the most retarded thing I've ever read here by a loooooong shot and I've read a lot of retarded things here.
"That's mountain biking's equivalent to walking into a hockey arena, grabbing the Stanley Cup off a not-so-well-guarded table, and hoisting it in the air for all your friends to make you Instagram famous." Should read road biking instead of mountain biking.
I am pretty sure RC would be dead if he grabbed the Stanley Cup and held it up. If you win it you can pee in it (many have) baptise your baby (also been done) or whatever, but if you take it without earning it a cadre of angry Canadians with 7 good teeth between them and more stitches than a bag of rugby balls with pull your jersy over your head and pound you into a pulpy sack of meat.
Hockey is the only really cool team sport. Rugby and football (socker to us yanks) get respect, and lacrosse is a nice summer version of Hockey, but nothing compares to the violent festival of skill and passion that is hockey.
hey, hey, hey... does anyone have knowledge deeper than two years in this sport? Duncan Riffle was once the badest DH rider in the US untill Gwin and the new generation came arround. I still remember him killing it on that white Sunday.
Kinda of disappointed, at eurobike, somebody dropped a hint that shimano could possibly be revealing their answer to SRAMs XX1....definitely looking for ward to seeing that happen!
PB go to the coolest bike show on the planet - and again give us crap to look at. Where's all the wacky weird stuff, odd-ball bike creations, strange attachments for your bike. We see the riders a lot doing what they do well - cool with that - but this is another piss poor photo session. Thank God there's a WC on with an awesome photo essay. Shame on you PB
on the very first interbike post, i got neg proped a bunch cause i said: "i hope pb covers this better then they did their eurobike coverage, vital smashed them in terms of coverage"
well.. here we are..
off to vital and MTBR to search for moar new sh!t!
Marla is a riot!
I got John Tomac to sign the photo of him in his first race in a 1986 copy of the Fat Tire Flyer. Then I saw that the same issue had an article on Chris Chance, and an article on Joe Breeze, all on consecutive pages, so I got them to sign it also. Would have had Scot Nicol sign his ad if I had caught up with him.
@ cuban-b. After repeating that post for the second time, you do realize we KNOW its a jab at those who are complaining about the middle finger pics but we don't care. Its still better than lame-ass middle finger pics, 'cause of course it made them all look sooo bad-ass and hardcore flipping off the cameraman....
"Sarah Leishman of Norco Bikes wears many hats (except this day). Not only is she a pro mountain biker, but she also organizes the Deep Summer photo challenge in Whistler BC." & She's got Epic tits.
thanks for the great coverage PB but please show some more dh/fr stuff please
