It’s 2018, a new year, a new race series, new organisers, and new “old” venues. This season kicked off at Cwmcarn, a venue synonymous with UK downhill that last held a national race 10 years ago. With all this change and a fair amount of uncertainty over the off-season about whether there would be a national downhill series at all, it's fair to say the organisers had to deal with a lot of pressure. But deal with it they did. They delivered a good weekend of racing on a fast and loose track.

With horrendous weather on Saturday morning, the weekend got off to a slow start with both riders and spectators waiting out the weather. Once the rain receded and there were a few glimpses of blue sky overhead, the action started to kick off. With the riders being dropped straight into the sloppy woods right out of the gate there was no time to ease in gently. Difficult conditions mixed with tight switchbacks, big drops and steep, rough chutes kept riders on their toes. After the tunnel under the uplift road riders were fired into a tight and fast woods section that caught out more than a few. Once this section was successfully negotiated the track got faster. The bottom section of the track was recently rebuilt and was a complete contrast to the top of the track, full of fast berms and big jumps.

less content more quality and we will complain less. Is it possible?

Ehhem...I believe you mean, "the typos IN this article WERE unreal". Typos are contained within said article, not 'on' it, which implies being separate from. 'Are' is a present tense version of 'be'. You should only use a present tense term while something is actually happening. You typed this comment after you finished the article, which requires past tense when describing your experience while reading it. Your order technically works, but a verb/noun/adjective structure typically sounds and reads better.

@hypermoto: I don't care about any of this, but what are your thoughts on the literary present tense?

UK national track(s) seem to be better DH courses than a few of the UCI World Cup courses. This one looks to be a true ripper.

I literally live 5 mins away! Hell of a track!

@whippy-woolley: I’ve not ridden it since the changes at the bottom, jumps look big, are they quite natural or do they chuck you right up? Funny how in the practice comments everyone was slagging the track off because the filming was all the bottom, all easy etc See photos of the top and people have changed their minds.

So cool to see Katy Kurd on it after such a challenging injury!

Interesting to see the Seagraves both riding LH front brakes, opposite to the typical British cockpit. Wonder if it's a hangover from their early days riding in S. France
