Australia Day 2016, a national public holiday commemorating the founding on January 26th, 1788 of the colony of New South Wales. Pat came to my house the night before to go filming at my local trails (the first half of the video). Stayed over and then we had a huge day of riding. Early start to do some downhill shuttles. Then off to a long enduro lap. Finally, ending up at Oxford Falls Freeride trails - a well-known jump and trail spot on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Here I showed Pat around and rode a lot of new trails. As the sun got hotter and the heat set in, we decided to film before it was too late in the day. Smashing out laps of the jump track to get the needed shots. It was a #PanShotFriday kind of day, here's how we spent it:

Turndown for what

Into the abyss.

A huge amount of fun was had. We got to ride endless amounts of flow, dirt jumps, technical downhill, and to top it off, we had fun. Since new years, I was having a break from all this media stuff, stepping back and enjoying myself and riding my damn bike. That time was great to just relax and realise why I do what I do. Australia Day was time for me to step back into gear and prepare for what challenges 2016 brings. This whole edit was filmed 100% handheld with no post stabilisation, I thought I'd give my glide cam an extra break.

Australia Day: A public holiday commemorating the beginning of the aboriginal genocide on January 26th

Debatable. While yes what the colonial settlers and subsequent generations did was no less than genocide and most Australians seem to ignore the fact. The first fleet actually arrived a week earlier and initial relations between the settlers and aboriginals wasn't hostile. January 26th 1788 is merely a date people like to attach the atrocities of Australian history to, when in fact all that happened was a flag raised.
