MEND IT KITS – A MODERN TWIST ON AN ESSENTIAL PRODUCT

As avid mountain bikers and outdoorsmen, we have both experienced riding injuries ourselves and encountered our fellow riders injured on the trail. When we went searching for a first aid kit to suit our needs, we came up empty handed. Riders want to stay safe on the trail, but often want to avoid heavy packs or bulging pockets. When designing our kit, we kept minimizing weight, maximizing versatility and optimizing usefulness at the forefront of our design process, aiming for an ultralight kit that attaches directly to any bike frame.

MTB First Aid Kit components

The result is the MTB First Aid Kit. Containing all the items needed to treat a wide variety of the most common riding injuries, the MTB First Aid Kit is packaged in a foam splint custom sized for a wrist or ankle and attaches to the bike with a CAT tourniquet. Weighing in at just under 7 ounces and completely waterproof, this kit includes both common first aid staples as well as custom components selected and engineered to address the injuries riders are most likely to face.

3D-printed finger splint

One of the key components of the kit is a 3D-printed carbon fiber-impregnated PLA finger splint that utilizes “living hinge” technology to conform to any finger, while still remaining lightweight and easy to package and carry flat. Designed and manufactured in-house, this component gives riders the opportunity to stabilize common extremity injuries on the trail and get riders back on their bikes as quickly as possible. Along with the finger splint, the kit contains medical tape, gauze, Band-Aids, Steri-strips, alcohol pads, skin prep wipes, Neosporin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen. A quick-reference card also talks riders through stabilizing a range of injuries from head and back injuries to broken bones and massive hemorrhaging.

Solid product idea! I would say that I cannot wait to test it out, but that would mean someone (or myself) would have to crash. Maybe some slight encouragement would convince a riding partner to send it enough for me to use this. You never know when you might come up on a situation where you need this kit, I can’t wait to get my hands on one! Also it adds +10 style points to your bike

I don't think people that haven't been properly trained, in the injury assessment, application, troubleshooting and consequences should be travelling with tourniquet. There is a very specific decision making process to deciding that the risks are worth it and the management of the wound (& patient obviously) once it is applied.

A great idea but perhaps a Voile strap for 98% of customers would be a more sensible package.

Thank you for the input! In addition to a quick reference medical card that is included in every kit, we have a page on our website with “stop the bleed” initiative tourniquet training that we encourage every buyer to review!

@NateCutshall: Which tourniquet is included in the kit? Is that a CAT? Would be helpful to list that on the site, or mention if it’s at least CoTCCC approved. Cheers, looks like a good kit!

@NateCutshall: Could not find that page on your website, nor video under "Instructional Videos".

@Menditkits: Great. I found this, which I assume is the same thing? www.stopthebleed.org

Love it. Would add (based on training + experience) a quick clot pad or 2, some vinyl gloves, a sting pen and some tweezers for ticks. that's more geared towards NICA type rides with kids though. Course then it probably gets bigger.
Instant cold packs are good too.

Too cool! We love this product. As a nurse in the ER, the components included in this kit will help manage injuries that happen out on the trail.
