EP.6 – 12 hours flat

Welc[H]ome is Jeremy Prevost's web series, made exclusively in Méribel. This native of the Allues Valley, a professional freerider and former competitor on the Freeride World Tour, travels the world to quench his thirst for powder yet remains deeply attached to his home valley.

In summer, he works on [L=https://www.trailforks.com/region/meribel-bikepark-4543/]Méribel’s bike park[/L]. When not wielding a pickaxe, he is with his friends, making the most of the enormous potential of the Méribel valley in Enduro and Downhill. In this episode, he takes us to visit the slopes, starting in the early morning and ending at sunset.

As a warm up, he pedals to the summit of the Tougnète ridges at sunrise for a magnificent run to the centre of the resort. Next he takes us down Méribel Bikepark’s famous trails such as "Tougnète rocket" or "Forest jump". And to finish, he takes us on a beautiful descent from Col de la Loze, facing the sunset, ending at night in the Altiport forest.

And you, do you often ride with a view on Mont Blanc?

Little known?? What about the DH World Cup previously being held there. I’d say it’s quite well known

Best race track in France so far

Well my friend it’s cause there was no EWS there so it’s unknown ...... haha
Any DH racer knows about it

We spent a week there last year and the trails were great. The only issue was there was no coordination with Courcheval and Val Thorens about the days the lifts were open making it impossible to link the 3 valleys up properly. For example the lifts in Val Thorens were open on the days the lift that links it to Meribel was shut!!! If they sorted this out then they would have a great place

When we were there a few years ago, the wayfinding was atrocious, and the riding we did find (with guides) wasn't worth a week's holiday.

I don't like to be negative, but this 'infomercial' smacks of a similar one we read before we went - the reality was different.

@LemonadeMoney: I don't know when you were last in Meribel, but they really made a big effort toward mtb. It is really getting interesting! They have enduro trails (some of them have close to 2000m of descent), DH trails, XC trails and I believe they are starting to build ebikes trails. I went there end of august and all the trails were still in perfect conditions (almost no brake holes), the lift are not crowded and still quite cheap, knowing that you have potential access to the 3 vallées (if you pick the right days Smile . Have a look at the 2018 mtb map, there are a lot of options. And a guide told us that, basically, all trails are ridable in Meribel, including those that are not listed as mtb dedicated trails. So if you prepare your week correctly (i.e. making sure you go in val thorens or Courchevel the right days), you can easily spend a week there without being bored! Wink

'The only issue was there was no coordination with Courcheval and Val Thorens about the days the lifts were open making it impossible to link the 3 valleys up properly'. Correct! The lift coordination is useless.

Enjoyed visiting Meribel. The DH wasn't much to right home about (the new WC DH track wasn't finished) but if you wanted big alpine adventures and super long descents its worth a visit. Use the lifts that are open and a map to navigate your way uphill if needs be.

...ps: and after that 4 days, i was sick of exploring young not properly tuned trails, so i classicly headed back to PdS - Les Gets+Morzine+Chatel, this is the BEST bikeparks in EUrope! without questions, Stoke and Fun factor is there in the sky!

i was in area 3 weeks back, it was exploring trip, so we decided go to Crans Montana, Tignes, Meribel... so, Tignes is big, so many trails, but all of them are quite same, nothing special, nice panoramas of course, but.... i didnt want to spend another day there, despite my friend, so i go down to Les Arcs, and that was better, the Black8 dh line is awesome!! steep, fast, nice berms and JUMPS! next day we go to MERIBEL, it was better than Tignes, but not than Les Arcs (Bourg saint maurice) but DH7 line is NICE! steep, loamy, little jumps, nice traverses, Gopro was sketchy and just like side rides around WC track, what i even didnt find... so again, on trailforks is FALSE ADvertisement, because half of the trails are for Ebikes or just FSR roads.... so, like anywhere in France, you need to do propper research to know, what is Road signed like trail and what is propper MTB singletrack! i hate this fake trail news! MTB SINGLETRACKS AND TRAILS ONLY, SHOULD BE ON TRAILFORKS, NOBODY GIVE A FK ABOUT FOREST ROADS! (which have separate colour on TF, so please keep this in mind!!)
