Oliwer Kangas, a Swedish enduro rider, is one of our great local riders but is now focused more on the great fun of riding full suspension mountain bikes. This was one of those cloudy Saturdays in the capital of Sweden with the perfect fit for taking the bike out on the local trails and smashing it! We had a great time shooting the Stumpjumper S-Works being ridden on a popular, part of the trail—but this day it was empty.

Oliwer has a lot of KOMs in this forest and his way of pumping yet gently absorbing the ground and rock gardens is a balanced combo of skills, endurance, and love of riding. Enjoy!

Swedish trail riding aka Stigcykling, where speed is not for free, you earn every single turn and every milisecond of air time. Simply put: pedal hard or fk off!

Sounds a bit like flat Australia!

That's not what the trails in Sweden look like this time of the year Wink

This is similar to the riding we have in the south east (except without the rocks) where the biggest hill is only 294m. Line choice, staying off the brakes and carrying speed is the key.

I do love a good "trail" video however it would be great to see it filmed with a chest mounted gimbal.

@fartymarty: the problem is that with lack of speed surplus it’s damn hard to film anything that looks even remotely fast and interesting in those Swedish woods. So far, I believe only Jon Bokrantz and Jimmy Svensson has managed to do it and I know participating riders have been spitting their lungs out while filming it. It’s much better to film a MTB born trials riding if you find a good trials rider. People want to see stuff like Kovarik and Brannigan, and those dudes apart from insane skills, simply go too fast into stuff. There is no “too fast” in Swedish lowlands and even if there is, it still looks like choking on d... and you look kind of amateurish because you are shagging your brain inside out by trying waaay too hard.

@JanB time to put plus tyres on Big Grin

@WAKIdesigns: I get where you are coming from. This is why I would never bother trying to film anything (plus I am too slow to make it look good).

Some of my fav vids are from the Chromag guys where they are "trail" riding on hardtails. It "feels" very much like the stuff you could ride yourself altho maybe not as fast rather than someone like Semenuk who is just so insanely talented I could never hope to pull of 1% of what he can do.

It's a tough one as I would still rather be riding a lame peddly trail than sitting in front of the computer watching someone else do it.

@fartymarty: You lucky beast. 294m! That's a Alpine for us in Stockholm! The highest elevation around here is 65m, and that's an artificially built up hill. It's very rocky, but not loose rocks. There are some great trails here, but I agree that it might be difficult to convey any sense of speed. But it is fun.

@mitochris: Wow 65m, I've ridden in Helsingborg and that's pretty flat too. I thought there were a few more hills up north altho I guess that's over on the border with Norway.

 @mitochris: Flottsbro is actually 100m!

@mikaeljc: One thing I have found with a lack of altitude is the trails have to be built better. For me there is nothing worse than blowing through lots of vertical when you can pedal a little and get more for your money. Some of the trails around here probably drop only 5m over their length of maybe a km.

If this kind of trail building was extended to places with real drop then the trails could go on forever.

@fartymarty: These are 100% natural trails with hardly any man made features besides the odd (mega slippery) skinny. Like most trails in Sweden outside the lift accessed bike parks.

@mikaeljc: I forgot about Flottsbro. It even has a lift ;-).

Maybe a bit of egregious use of slow-mo but, overall, I enjoyed this. Any vid you watch in the weeks after rampage is going to suffer from comparison to Gods on bikes doing unholy things.

 Those were my exact thoughts!

nice to see someone have to use their pedals. that is a kick-ass trail. those rock features pose a nice contrast to the many (awesome) wood features we see.

Awesome video, but...am I the only one that can't stand that hub noise?
Reminds me of this:

That was smooth especially considering the terrain. I didn't see any superfluous tail skids which mostly look like someone trying to make an easy trail look hard.

This is my home ground nowafays and believe me, I have been around Europe and these trails are the most demanding when it comes to fun/sweat ratio.
Forget loooong flowy descents, you to mail it to enjoy it.

This videos is awsome !! Even more awsome is that if everything comes together, I´ll be shredding my stumpy through the Swedish trails in all of 2018 Smile
