Who doesn't know the problem, you shred your bike on your favorite trail but the euphoria is always clouded by the unpleasant sound of the chain hitting the bike frame. It doesn't have to be like that. Ninja Mount has provided a solution:
Introducing ChainFin!
ChainFin installed on a Commencal Furious
The ChainFins ensure that the bicycle chain is guided more smoothly, even in rough terrain. The high-quality injection molded parts are made of a damping plastic and produced in Germany. The position of the ChainFins - four pieces are included per set - can be individually adapted to the respective bicycle frame. This means that the system also works with multiple speed drives and, thanks to our special design, can be attached to a wide variety of seat stay and chain stay shapes.
• Set consists of four ChainFins (incl. cable ties) • Damping & flexible plastic • Special design enables mounting on a wide variety of frame shapes • Works with 1-, 2-, and 3-speed drives • Made in Germany & coming in plastic-free packaging
Each set consists of four ChainFins, the required cable ties and a manual
ChainFin is now available on our website for international delivery
My Sharkfin was very useful to prevent chainsuck between the rear tire and the chainstay on my very early 90's Norco Mountaineer SIS (that was the upgraded version with gears that clicked into position!). Unfortunately, it predates digital images.
Glad to see someone digging up expired patents and having a go at renewing them.
@gcrider: My earliest tinkering memory was spending 4 days with a box of steel wool & a can or 2 of WD 40 cleaning all the rust off of a chrome BMX I got from my cousin. That bike was awesome after! It replaced a CCM/Supercycle Bobcat (my 1st bicycle) that had gotten stolen.
@m1dg3t: Ahh memories. I have definitely done that a few times. The quality of the chrome on my GT Performer was great, I could scrub it down and it wouldn't have a single scratch on it.
That festival looks rad (notice the retro lingo) Hopefully COVID won’t affect the festival. But don’t bet the house on it.
Healthy low risk people aren’t expected to start getting vaccinated until end of 2021 International air travel not expected to return to normal until 2023 (Boeing doest expect production to return to normal till 2025) Some people may be able to travel earlier from COVID active countries ( and with no quarantine )with a Covid passport if 1:They have lasting immunity from their vaccines 2: their vaccine prevents them from shedding the virus and being infectious when the catch the virus. Vaccination doesn’t imply you wont be infectious It hopes to reduce disease, disability and death
I guess I just don't ride fast or hard enough ( true) to think this is required... pre clutch and pre 1x drivetrains maybe.
I am going to start printing off weird shit on my 3d printer, make a fake website and start sending it to the PB office for reviews.
1. The water bottle shoe horn called the Levynator. Will get a fullsize water bottle into any front triangle. Never again will Levy be able to put that as a con on your bike model. 2. Kinetic pedals called the Kazimoto, I am going to copy the Super Wheel on a small scale but put them in the pedal shaft. Based on the Super Wheel is all that needs to be said 3. Brake squeal eliminaors called the Vlad1, you weave it in your brake rotor and using resonance tuning will prevent brake squeal. Tag line, This time on PB only the squeal gets eliminated. We miss you Vlad! 4. Carbon handle bar moutned miror called the ENVEview. It allows the rider to look at him/herself the whole ride or angle to view your bike bling from other perspectives while riding ( Sorry ENVE If you are mad I can send you back the cool free stem you sent me last week from the PB comments section).
Anyways got to get the printer bed leveled and get the spool of carbon black filament loaded up to get on these in time for the release. Stay tuned.
I don’t think that chain fin would make that big of a difference. It sounded like in the first run without chain fin, the chain stay guard was removed. I also image there could be some shifting issues with chain fin. I don’t like the way it looks cluttering up the bike. I ride a downhill bike, and just with the chain stay guard it is completely quiet! With clutch derailleur and the B-screw adjust you can tighten up the chain tension slightly and still shift smooth, reducing chain flap considerably. And if you have a good chain stay guard, that’s all you need for a quiet ride.
@abotchway: I have never noticed a decline in shifting performance. On the contrary, I have either maintained/increased shifting performance compared to running std chain length. You don't just go blindly pulling links out of the chain.
A piece of road bike tire is the best chainstay protector I’ve tried thus far. They’re flexible, easy to mount with zip ties (make sure to cut the beads off first), and the rubber damps vibrations excellently. Just try it: slap a chain on some metal, plastic, and then a tire. There’s quite a difference.
I have for a non bike project. Still has air in it after 6 months. I kept it as a loop. Not flat. And I put a sleave of rubber inside, coiled up to help. But wont need if going to a flat end. You need to clean out the inside really well. And sandpaper @MaplePanda:
So rubber you say? Dampens vibrations? Quite a bit quieter than metal? Is this why they cover metal wheels with rubber? This has been driving me nuts for yrs
@MaplePanda: Oh I can top that. I was in the store today smelling some horrible onion BO, seemed to come and go everywhere I went, all over the store. It donned on me in the long, slow check out line that it must be me that stinks so heinously, there was no way it was everywhere and all the sudden super friggin strong now that I’m not moving.. I was mortified at how my just-raked-the-leaves, forty-something BO that I thought my coat would sufficiently muffle had seemingly morphed into something so powerfully offensive.. so quickly. It was finally my turn and it wasn’t until I unloaded the naked little bundle of super stinky green onions in the bottom of my tote I tossed in first thing, before wandering back and forth for nearly an hour, that I realized.. Thankfully, I was not yet capable of randomly Producing such dank BO.. downside is I’m kind of a moron.
This actually rankings me more of the Shark Tooth, which went on an under chainstay mounted u-brake. I know the shark fins went on top of the chainstay, like these. But, these also go under the seatstay. Anyway, that a lot of words to say, "dumb product". Zip ties? Yeah, those look good.
Here’s the industry trying to normalize 10k bikes and yet we’re reduced to cable tying fork bumpers on our swing arm as an engineering solution to chain slap.
Is it me that thinks this would be the most pointless £15-17 on 4 bits of plastic a couple of zip ties that 90% of new frames come with chain-stay protectors and failing that you can go old skool and zip tie a bit of tyre or tube in place.
I think you can buy a lizard skin protector for £8 - yes they are still about ha
I dunno, I couldn't hear THAT much difference and I have my headphones on fairly loud. Without the fins it sounded like someone rolling an old washing machine down a hill, with sounded like someone rolling an old washing machine down a hill but still full of washing...
Hahaha, I don't even want to talk about bikes right now. I currently own the most expensive, home brew, pile of nuts, and bolts, that's not even in riding condition at the moment (pretty much assembled the thing drunk, and holding my stomach down, over a couple years, as I had money). The STFU is amazing though. *my bicycle nightmares intensify*. I guess you could say, "at the end of the day, everything always works out" anywho.................Thank God.

At least the original sharkfin from the early 90s only killed 1 shark not 4

The original sharkfin was for chain suck and was hard plastic, it sure as heck didn't eliminate chain slap noise.
These guys took and old idea a repurposed it.
I don't know, maybe a bunch of you mounted your og sharkfins backwards and that's why you think it's the same.
Toe clips wont be missed by anyone
