Anyone who downvotes you is a complete moron because racing enduros on road is just plan dumb!!!!

@bigburd The crit is the day before the 50 mile race. Your placement in the crit determines your starting position in the 50 miler. If you don't race the crit I believe there is a time penalty for your start.
  • + 7
From the Whiskey Rules - A DNS in the Criterium will result in an 8 minute time penalty in the 2nd stage of the event on Sunday. Rider will start 8 minutes later, rather than add 8 minutes to their finish time.
  • + 8
Also think about it this way, the 50 mile race on Sunday is a great race, but it's definitely not spectator friendly. Having a crit in the middle of downtown gives the spectators a good opportunity to watch some great action, and it gives the racers another opportunity to race and win some cash. Making the entire weekend that much more viable to competitors and sponsors alike. So while it may not be what you expect from an mtb race, it does make sense.

It still doesn't me sense. Race on dirt. On a side note the next time someone wants go buy a mountain bike I know they are just going to ride to the bar or to the mini mart....I'll recommend a niner. Cheers

in northeast mexico we had a descent XC circuit with very good and aggressive XC tracks, the same company started doing XC Marathon races on flat trails and roads...their revenue tripled. The old XC circuit got dumped, next year they will only do the XC Marathon circuit.

For those that haven't done this event, do yourself a favor and do it before you judge. It's amazing. The Epic rides crew lays out the route by linking most of the popular xc trails in the area together to make one long-ass killer ride. It's far more technical than these photos suggest. A large purse brings out the racer-boy set and for those without shaved legs, the day is just one, long, killer XC ride followed by a concert and a pub crawl.

Unless I'm missing something, it seems unfair that some riders swap to slicks for the crit, where others are clearly not?
  • + 4
Riders were allowed to swap tires. As per the Whiskey Rules - You must use the same make and model of bicycle that you will use in Sunday's 50 Proof Endurance XC Race; tires are the only piece of equipment that are allowed to be different.

•Tires must have a minimum width of 1.5" or 38mm. Width is as measured, not as may be stated by manufacturer on tire.
