Elliott Heap U21 Champion- Nukeproof Mega 275c Bike Check

Due to the nature of the Enduro World Series coverage and demands on the media to cover the elite races, there is a usually unseen battle that has raged all year. Often leaving for the first stage just as the sun rises the U21 Enduro World Series category has been super tight all year and with only 5 of the 8 rounds counting, on count back it went right down to the final round in this years series.


Finale Ligure was a fitting stage for the Series showdown for leader CRC-Mavic and Nukeproof athlete Elliott Heap. After an early season battle with Duncan Nason (Yeti), Elliott held off his challenge to lead the series going into the final round. But with a mid season charge from Cube's Cole Lucas and Commencal's Timmy Trabac and an injury in Whistler and illness in Ainsa left the Championship set up for a winner takes all championship showdown in Finale Ligure.


Going into the one day race I've never seen Elliott more nervous. But despite still suffering a little from the illness that plagued him in Ainsa, he managed these nerves to put in an awesome performance to win the Finale Ligure round and take the his first World title. Elliott Heap- 2018 U21 Enduro World Series Champion. Not bad for pie loving lad from Wigan. Elliott converted to racing bikes "only" 5 years ago after a successful junior series in Motorcross, becoming something of a protege CRC-Mavic Team Manager Nigel Page. After buying an ex team Nukeproof Mega from Nigel, Elliott showed a instant turn of pace and impressed Pager with his raw talent to win a place on the team. Since then he has continued to impress everyone. The lad just loves riding! A 3rd place in the 2016 Junior World Downhill Series with Nukeproof before a switch of focus back to enduro to be team mates to Irish man Kelan Grant and 2017/ 18 EWS champion and mountain bike legend Sam Hill.


Now back home enjoying the off season, frequent visits to his local pie shop and constant mods to his "Semi" Monster truck (check out his Instagram) and back to the day job running Ride MTB his personal coaching business. We caught back up with him at the Forest of Dean to check out his Mega (we forgot to as we go a little carried away in Finale).

A few quirky things that his mechanic Ewan does to Elliott Mega:

On the freehub apply a small amount of fork grease to allow it to glide on the hub body more freely. Also a small mount of oil inside the freehub ratchet makes it roll much more smoothly.


Elliott likes his bike to be quiet, therefore Ewan applies mastic tape on areas that might rattle and brace the cables above the bb as they pass around the seat tube with rubber fuel pipe to stop them from catching his feet. The number board holders stop interference with brake and gear cables.
