Old School natural trails + Flat Pedals = 2.16mins of Sam hill enjoying his Nukeproof Mega 275. Thank you to Supernatural, Dolceaqua for the guiding and uplifts.
But hardcore just doesn't match this video. Hectically cut scenes of Val di Sole carnage would fit, or keep the pictures of these Enduro tracks and play straight forward rock along the lines of Foo Fighters. - Either combination is fine for me, but this was a mismatch.
@fartymarty: Hell yeah. Still remember seeing them at the old Manly Vale Hotel in Sydney in early 90s - think tiny band room like a bunker, black ceiling so low you could touch it, SOIA loud enough to strip paint and the the place a seething mass of punters literally climbing the walls. Shit I'm old.
Amazing video of proper trail riding and when you look closely you can see how much skill he has and things for you to try and achieve out on the trails. A refreshing change from 90ft canyon gaps and 7 mile manuals (which will never be of use to me - yet still good to watch too!)
Also, I realise the flat pedal thing is a nice gimmick (all celebs should have one), but he must be bored as fook about being known as Sam Flat Pedal Hill. He certainly looked bored holding the pedals lol!
Take a light shot at free ride all you like but all i learned from this is how to beat up a little bike for the sake of staying with the marketable trend.. I would rather see him on a real bike shredding myself.. It was nice of them to thank the guide for the shuttling though. Wouldn't want to think they were DHing on a pedal bike ..If word got out it was all a facade..
@farmageddon: he's probably riding the set up he will ride for EWS.... notice the pack and the full face. Definitely not a combo you'd normally have, but something you want to ride in if that's your race kit
agreed - those slo-mo skids with the leg out and music made me sad. I thought "awesome, a new Sam Hill video, wonder what he's been up to" and then the disappointment settled in.
I agree with the posts that state the video didn't do him justice as a rider. But you know what? I've watched him ride stuff in person that others beat their brains out trying to clean and he made it look boring. He's just technically such a fluid rider, it doesn't translate to video.
That shot where he hit the same turn 3 different ways was a good example. He is literally the sneakiest line picker sniping lines without effort that others lose time on
Also agree that Sick of It All is awesome, but didn't mesh.with the vid. I think that's more the videos fault though.
Yup. It's a very nuanced style of riding compared to others where it *looks* fast. He matches transitions perfectly, doesn't look wild or out of control, jumps the exact amount needed to keep speed and low. I don't think people really see how skilled he is, just his wins (which came from that skill). Watching him hit that wild stepdown in F1rst was pretty eye opening to how perfect he hits things.
@sicmoto: We aren't saying he doesn't look fast, since we've both seen him multiple times in person. What we are saying, is many don't see the subtle nuances that make him so fast. A lot of riders are some what wild and this looks raged and faster than it may be. Whereas guys like Gwin, Minnar, Hill, seem to look more composed and relaxed, and unless you see the rate they travel at, it's hard to see just how quick they are because they are smooth, not hitting holes, perfectly landing transitions, not jumping too high, etc. This equates to consistent speed as is evident by the careers of riders who ride so clean. You can also see it in riders like Smith, who got smoother and smoother as their results climbed.
I've never seen a rider ride as clean in ragged spots as Hill, and I've been to multiple world cups to watch.
According to yesterdays posts, I think you'll find Sam Hill in the region of - Full Enduro - Badass Enduro - Enduro Enduro - Flats Enduro - DH Enduro - Enduro - ( all without a cliche craft beer in sight)
Good to see this type of vid. Shame the editor used 2 clips of the same part of trail from the same angle. Clip at 14 secs was enough and the best, so should have just left the other
After rewatching this this three or four times I now like this clip a whole lot more. The trails are steep as hell and he isn't easing into them at all.
In comparison to Hill's on the edge style at his peak where he'd often absolutely destroy the entire WC DH field. There's no other words to describe this new style of riding other than "mincing". Infact I'm pretty sure I saw him down at Glentress the other week. Well it was someone uninspiring on a Nukeproof wearing a leatt anyway.
That was a gritty song that matched the natural gnar Sam was ripping it on.
You all want to see buff trails with a dude pulling a 720 off a gap.
Yeah ive seen that.
This was Raw gritty nasty and I liked it.
Thank god almost all videos are the exact same shite.
To please the masses.
Thanks for making something a bit different.
I'd like to remember Sam in his DH guise ..the guy made people wanna ride hard and loose..he was a breath of fresh air. Dude had some insane line choices(deemed),mostly invisible to others ..his competitors used to wait on the gnar sections to see Sam's lines.. Having fun now, good for him
It's weird to see negative comments about Sick of It All. It totally makes sense that Sam Hill would be a fan. Give em a listen people. Inspiriing band - inspiring rider.
Man! That just it, he looks like he wanted too progress going bigger, but the bike was holding him back, is this just his new strategy? This bloke is re finding the old.
This music is poisonous to the ears, and painful to the brain. I pray that the vocalist puts down the mic for good, and the guitarist reconsiders his choice in instrument.
As for the bike, its good to see one that will survive a nuclear explosion.
Ding ding ding! Sam Hill is all about the punk.
Also, I realise the flat pedal thing is a nice gimmick (all celebs should have one), but he must be bored as fook about being known as Sam Flat Pedal Hill. He certainly looked bored holding the pedals lol!
Good job though Nukeproof on this vid!

For all the free quality video that guys put on this site, its kind of shameless to see such a cheap edit from sponsored post.

This new video brings me much sadness.
Having fun now, good for him
