The Nukeproof Scout was designed to take you back to minimal fuss, raw mountain biking. Whether it's embracing your spirit of adventure or attacking the trail, the Scout is designed as a do it all Hardtail.

For 2017 the Scout has evolved. A new level of components and finish provides the opportunity for your Scout to roam further and harder than ever before. Whilst shooting in North Wales we headed on a mini adventure to ride Snowdon. With 3 people on the trip from North Wales (Joe may be technically mid-Wales) this was a chance to relive our youth. After a few days of shooting brochure shots in a constant stream of rain, we lucked out with the weather for a morning adventure up the infamous Rhyd ddu path, Snowdon.

The 14km route started at the Rhyd Ddu train station, with a mix of sweeping paths and technical climb and rocky technical descent giving us plenty of time to enjoy the views of the Snowdonian National Park. Be aware there was a voluntary ban on bikes on Snowdon from 10am to 5pm during parts of the year.

The new Scout Comp*

The Rhyd Ddu path is made up of the walking path featuring natural rock gardens, man-made slab paths and ridge-lines to challenge riders. Joe's choice was the new Scout 275. Developed to be a real hardcore hardtail. Designed to attack single track, with its slack angles, low BB and the lightweight yet stiff aluminium frame.

The Scout complimented Joe's natural bike skill's. The aluminium frame gives the confidence to control and position the bike on the trail. As one of the most talented bike handlers out there, Joe was powering the Scout up the steep climbs, when it go to rough he simply used his trials skills to hop the back wheel up the rocks to ascending some "impossible" climbs. Point the bike downhill and he's rail the descents, launching natural gullies, threading his way through the brutal rock gardens and drifting the wide open loose slate corners to the trail head.

Kelan's choice of bike was the 290. In 2016 he has used the Scout 290 as his training bike for enduros. His Scout has proved a versatile vessel, Lapping the Irish trail centres, eating the miles on epic rides, racing Irish XC races and being his daily commute to work and university. Similar to the 290 it's designed to attack. Where ever Joe went Kelan followed.

Enjoying playing too much meant we hit the 10am curfew and had to make an exit before the rush of walkers

As ever when you bring two competitive riders a mini competition starts; who can clean the awkward rock strewn climbs? Who's first to hit the rock rollers? Fastest down a section? Longest Manual? Whatever it was it provided entertainment all the way up and down the mountain. It's the rides like this that make mountain biking a special sport; stunning natural scenery, awesome group of riders and fun demanding trails made for an epic trip, next time we are packing lights to get up early to make the summit in time!

What, that black Nukeproof is £1,599.99 and comes with a Yari, you can get a Commcencal meta V3 with a pike for that!

It seems this year rockshock realised the yari was punching above its weight and only put it on higher builds, what I've noticed compared to '16 bikes

I've got the 2015 Scout Race and I love it! Was only really getting back into MTB after a few years away from it all, but didn't want to shell out for a full-sus just yet and it was the best option. More than capable of handling anything we have to offer here in NI!

I do the llanberis path most years, sometimes a few times. Usually do it after work and get to the top by 8 pm. There are never any walkers around then. Did it last year as a night ride, was amazing! It's about a 15 minute descent, so one of the longest in the UK I'd reckon. Give it a go, best on an enduro bike for me.

The llanberis path is the one that more or less follows the railway right? Did that the first time I did Snowdon and although it was a cool little adventure, I was a bit disappointed by the riding. Been back since and did a different decent which was far superior (ducks off riders left after following the main route for a bit). I don't see why you'd ever choose to do the llanberis path unless it was the only route you knew.

@el-nombre: Well, I've done the Rangers path, Watkin Path and the Foxes (but not the steep scree!), I like them all, but the Llanberis is the quickest and easiest to do on a night ride (when I normally do it).... but maybe I like the crap way down :S

@el-nombre: Its not a trail center, its a bridleway. If you want drops and jumps goto antur stiniog
  • 1 0
@Cefn: I didn't say it was. But for the most part it is more or less just a straight line ploughing over rock pavement. The other route I've done wasn't a trail centre either but the riding was much more interesting.

@el-nombre: If you do t have fun descending the llanberis path then your not doing it right

I always feel that Snowdon is one that everybody should do at least once. Met a guy last year who said it's the best decent in the UK. Anybody have a link to any info. on riding It? Maps, does and dont's etc?

Best route is up a bit of rangers, down telegraph valley, then up llangelis to summit and the down the full length of rangers....

No picture on the summit ? it didn't happen !
I went up with friends earlier in the year, it was f***ing cold and we couldn't see a thing from the top, but well worth it.

We ran out of time and had to make it off before the curfew- Carried away shooting sections and sessioning lines.. Next time.

I rode Snowdon last year with friends. Its a tough climb (we are not that fit!) but well worth the decent Big Grin

I've still yet to ride Snowdon it's annoying me.

Well, as advertorials go, there was effort put in to this one, so I was happy to read. Sold on the location, less so on the bikes.

Meh, should have fired down the rangers and telegraph road on a stanton instead....

They clearly photshopped a sky from somewhere else than Wales into those photos. It's never like that when I'm riding there!
