Jono Jones about his new bikes:
bigquotesAt the moment I’m riding the Hugene. 140mm is plenty where I live - the thing absolutely rips! Pumped to spend the early months of ‘22 on that, before the Tyee arrives ahead of the race season. This year will be my first year to ever own an E-Bike. I can't wait to build up the Ekano! So excited to discover new places on that machine.Jono Jones

We are looking forward to the upcoming projects with Jono.
Good times ahead!

Cheers, Propain Crew

I think Jono is the most genuine and most likeable rider there is!
Also nice to see Propain get more and more exposure (especially since i own a Propain myself)

 Your kidding right?

 @deco1: You're*

@deco1: Are you doubting he has a Propain?

You can’t fool me. That’s Matt Jones. Smart of him raking in sponsorship dollars from 2 bike brands.
  • 17 0
gotta put gas in that lambo
  • 2 0
Exactly. It leads me to believe that Jono is just a CGI character, a construct. Very smart. We're on to you Matt Jones.

I hereby proudly announce that my Hugene frameset will be finally shipped this weekend.
  • 7 0
And let me guess, you ordered it like 6 months ago?

Nice one! I hope you find it’s worth the wait.

@ODubhslaine: Thanks mate Smile My impatience really peaked after the last PB field test in which the Hugene was reviewed as one of the best bikes.
  • 1 0
@jayjay1989: that review confirmed all I already knew about the Hugene. It’s a fantastic bike.
  • 3 0
@jayjay1989: imagine if they had wholeheartedly hated on it like they did on the ghost. Brutal buyers remorse... And you'd already waited months for it.
  • 2 0
@Fullsend2-13: Well, I did my research prior to the PB field test. Nearly all of our domestic bike magazines and websites have been positive about the bike, as well.

Propain is doing the sponsoring thing exactly right. They sign people who ride with talent and style, but mainly with a positive attitude. As a consumer I can identify a lot more with riders like Jono Jones, Phil Atwill or Remy Metailler than with the Loic Brunis and Reece Wilsons of the world. And so I'd argue that those guys even do a better job as brand ambassadors, because just by that factor alone, it would be much more likely that I bought a Propain instead of a Trek or a Specialized.
  • 57 0
I mostly agree with you, except that to me Reece Wilson is one of the most likeable characters on the DH racing scene
  • 11 0
I hear you but you might change “positive attitude” with something like “playful” “carefree” public persona or the like. We think we know these racers, and we don’t. I highly doubt anyone reaches the top level of World Cup downhill without a positive attitude. You also don’t reach the top without being pretty serious (I.e. semenuk, atherton). Those attributes may or may not come with a lot of natural charisma in front of the cameras. I hear your argument… results aren’t the only thing that sells bikes and it’s a rare one who competes at the very highest level and also puts forth a chill and fun loving public face (see Michael Jordan vs. Kobe a Bryant?) But if I were one of the guys who’s a little more reserved or serious and I’m just trying to be the fastest I can be and represent my sponsors as well as I can, I’d be pretty bugged by comments from people who think they know my personality.
  • 8 0
What is not to like about Bruni? Isn't it just different ways and the world needs both! People who read post on pinkbike might see more of Jono and Remy but people who don't will probably see more of Bruni when it comes to advertising. And we don't buy as many bikes as the "commoners" Wink
  • 5 0
I don't think "positive attitude" is how I'd describe them.... I think it's more that guys like Remy and Jono are more relatable to the average rider because they're not at the pointy end of the WC or EWS. Their personalities come out in the content they produce, and most people enjoy watching them ride because they're all about having fun and pushing themselves.
  • 5 0
Loic Bruni is a really easy going cat in my experience
  • 2 0
@stevemokan: You're totally right. I should have been more specific. What I meant to say is that it's easier for most customers to identify with a rider whose marketing value isn't generated by the inherently serious business of earning DH world cup podiums, but with people that just go out in the woods and have some light-hearted fun on their bikes.

Jono is hands down one of my favorite pro riders. His attitude is always top shelf. Whether he's winning or loosing. He"s is just having a time, and it quite refreshing. His channel takeovers on Matt's YouTube, are some of my favorite. Stoked he's finally getting more light shined on him. Way to go Jono!

The Madeira series was very good. Especially the one where they rode down the long steep chute.
  • 18 1
I love that propain offers 27.5” wheels on a few of their bikes.
  • 10 0
that 1st pic is proof that propain is lighter than air.
  • 3 0
I'm filling all my tires with it from now on... just hope I don't get any explosive pinch flats!
  • 9 0
He was riding one with Matt on one of his YouTube vids the other day. He's also on Helfair, so all all change.
  • 1 0
It'd be rude if he didn't wear his twin brother's brand!
  • 7 0
Wonder how he feels switching from Pivot to Propain, as those two teams/brands have a completely different ethic, expecting some good stuff!
  • 4 0
Could you elaborate on that? I mean, yes, the teams seem to have a different vibe going in the pits, as far as I can tell from the outside, but a “completely different ethic” for the brands, what ist that about?
  • 8 1
@FuzzyL: i think it goes this way: pivot = dentist bikes, propain = mass people bikes
  • 6 0
“Ethic” is the wrong word, it puts a sort of moral judgment on it. “Approach” might be better.

"We are pumped to announce that Jono Jones will ride on Propain Bicycles from now on."

Did anyone else read this like he's never going to ride another brands bikes ever? LvOL

Great stuff. Pumped for Jono. Magic would happen if they swing a collab between him and Remi!!!
  • 2 0
 omg YES

Excellent rider, great guy and really good ambassador for mountain biking. Propain did well.

I was looking at the Tyee but every owner I have spoken to says it's more suited to racing and bigger hits rather than being an all-rounder, sits very high, feels tall, and feels harsh with an air shock, leverage ratio working much better with coil. Pity because I really like the look of it. The Hugene is very nice but carbon only and it gets very expensive when you import to the UK Frown
  • 4 0
Not sure I agree with that… I personally think it’s more of a long travel trail bike. Climbs amazing and is super playful with an air shock, and has the extra travel when you need it. If you put a coil on it, then it turns into a bruiser. (I don’t race or hit any big drops, I tend to like steep and super technical trails FWIW)
  • 1 0
@stevemokan: Cool that's good to know! How about it sitting high in the travel? I've had a few people tell me that they feel like they're sitting on top of the bike rather than "in" it like other bikes.
  • 1 0
@redrook: hmmm... That’s not something I noticed, it feels very comfortable to me. I run mine with about 30-32% sag on a RS Super Deluxe Ultimate. I’m 5’11” on a large. My only complaint is the longer ST only allows me to run a 160mm dropper, but I have relatively short legs.
  • 2 1
Got my tyee with an air shock feels amazing don’t listen to people saying it feels harsh super playful bike too
  • 2 0
Not accurate at all! i been riding Tyee since a year ago and the bike fits me perfect, climbs like a goat and is so smooth on rough trails.

Raced the full EWS 100 season last year and the bike felt amazing with zero issues and even raced it on DH races twice.

Im 1.76m and my bike si a Medium, the most playful bike i ever owned , considering its a 29"
  • 2 0
@redrook: nothing wrong with the tyee mate on our beautiful wet Scottish trails it goes bloody well, I did hate it at first though and wanted to go back to my trek until I got use to it!
  • 1 0
@Meganstuart1: That's interesting, what did you initially hate about it before you got used to it?
  • 1 0
@redrook: you hit the nail on head, I felt like I was sitting too far forward on the climbs but I very quickly got over that it was more the fox 36 I really struggled with I just felt they were really harsh on roots which you know yourself we can’t get away from! So more the forks and the actual frame really mate lol
  • 1 0
@Meganstuart1: Did you make any adjustments to the suspension or just get used to the way it was?
  • 1 0
@redrook: Per your comment to @Meganstuart1, I think everyone should be tweaking the suspension to themselves. Everyone is massively different in how they like a feel. There is almost no bike that is perfect out of the box. So if the folks you talked to were riding it out of the box with no adjustments its not surprising that they may have had some less than pleasant feedback.
  • 1 0
@redrook: I got a shot of a shockwiz off a mate and what a difference it made mate, I would definitely recommend it to anyone especially people like myself who hasn’t quite got the knowledge of setting up the forks yet!
  • 1 0
@wilsonians: One is an EWS racer - that was regarding the bike feeling tall, and the position being more "on top" than "in". Not necessarily a bad thing, just something to note. That says more about the rider position and BB height than the sus setup.

@Meganstuart1: Nice I will look into one whatever I decide for the next bike
  • 4 0
That bike will look good when it lands on him after he does half a backflip again

Well deserved. Might be my favorite guest rider in other people's vids, so much personality!
  • 2 0
Great guy. That his name could've been a comic book hero only makes it better.
  • 2 0
Brilliant news! Jono seems like a really good guy and should be good seen the tyee on some mtb videos for a change!
  • 1 0
I am seeing some of these comments and now I'm worried. Just ordered a Tyee and im hoping the US has a different distribution since their stated timelines were decent....
  • 1 0
They do have a different distribution center (located outside Portland).

@stevemokan: Phew! hopefully thats good news for me haha
  • 1 0
I was told June for a Tyee AL 27.5 frame. Hopefully that holds true.

Hopefully his contract doesn't forbid him from riding the Stink-E.
  • 2 0
Came to mention the stink-e what with his comment about first ebike. Or maybe the stink-e is still up the tree at the compound.

 Jono is a pro!
  • 10 0
I thought he had a day job in the city and bikes were just for fun…
  • 2 0
@lewiscraik: I believe he did. Not sure if that's still the case or if he's going full time mtb
  • 5 0
@lewiscraik: Came to ask the same question. Jono, you taking time out from your job at the bank for a year, left the "sensible" job, or combining both biking, social media & a job all at once??????

All I can say is I'm a super big fan Jono and love how you come across. All the very best this coming year. If you don't mind, I will be stalking you at EWS races!
