Propain Announces Updated 2020 Kids' Range

The Frechdax was first presented at Eurobike 2013, and what was initially intended as a bike for the kids of the three founders of Propain quickly turned into a popular and unique kids full suspension concept. Since then, three high-end children and youth bikes have been created, which use the technology of regular sized mountainbikes and meet the requirements of rookies without compromise.

For 2020, we have revised the Yuma, Frechdax and Dreckspatz.

Propain Yuma - Gravity Beginner Bike in 24"- 26"

As frequently requested, the colours of the decal kit are now customizable. There are four colors to choose from. Vee Tire Co, the tire partner of our World Cup team, developed a special MTB tire for kids bikes. Needless to say that we put these brand new tires on the bike. Furthermore, the Yuma is now equipped with the new Guide T brake from SRAM.

As already known from the previous models, the Yuma allows the usage of 24” and 26” wheels. After a few years the Yuma can be converted from 24" to 26" wheels with our unique "grown-up"-kit. The Yuma is tailored to the needs of riders from a height of 1.35m and the associated low body weight.

Propain Frechdax - Kids' fully for Mini-Shredders in 20"

The new Frechdax is equipped with the unique kids specific fork from 1st Ride, with a carbon-reinforced casting, adapted air-chamber, and a negative spring. The fork is extra light and ideally tuned for the rider weights of 6-9 year olds. The rear shock from RockShox is delivered with the right tuning for low rider weight.

As with all our Kids and Youth bikes, the Frechdax is also offered with the newly developed tires from Vee Tire Co. With 20" wheels, 90mm of suspension travel, and a shift-and-brake system from SRAM, the Frechdax offers maximum riding fun for all kids between 1,10m and 1,40m height and up to 40kg weight.

Propain Dreckspatz - Light Hardtail in 20"

In 2017, in addition to the full suspension Frechdax, the Dreckspatz hardtail was added to the range of high-end children's mountainbikes as a cheaper and lighter alternative.

The Dreckspatz is now available with an optional rigid fork or with the proven 1st Ride carbon children suspension fork. Traction is provided by the new tires from Vee Tire Co and SRAM delivers the shift-and-brake system.

 Propain is doing a lot right, the new tyee al is a real good bike with great value and the yuma has basically no competition ( the kids clash is more expensive and has worse components). A few descision i do not like though like not offering the best shocks for the alloy version of the tyee anymore or not offering a dreckspatz 24. The small Dreckspatz is very cool as is the yuma, but with a kid around 8 years of age i do not want to go all in (pricewise) and buy a dualsuspension bike. Imo a hardtail with a good suspension fork is better for kids this age. Its lighter and its better on the pumptrack too. So please do a Dreckspatz 24

 depends where you live at... over this side you have spawn, and some more pricey options like lil shredders... I agree with dual sus bikes not that great for growing kid.. 20 inch wheels are so small that they cannot even go down certain parts of trails with holes and small steps as the BB hits the ledges unless they jump/drop and not always feasible., pedals get caught up too easily in rocks etc, so there is no point IMO to get full sus until your kid can get a 24 or 26 inch bike..

 Clash has some poor components but the suspension and geo are second to none for a 24" bike. If you have the cash to upgrade the Clash a bit (we did), its insanely nice. Nothing comes close to the Manitou JUnit line. If you haven't laid hands on it, you should. Both the shock and fork are entirely kids designed from the ground up. It's not adult components on a kids bike. Propain has decent 26" geometry but not for a 24".

FWIW I think the previous Propaine was better. The flow tires suck (we have them on the clash) and moving from Cura brakes to SRAM is another big downgrade to a nice bike with good value.

 These are cool. The bikes I was riding as a kid were complete and utter garbage, not that bikes like these were around anyway, or that I would have had one.

 Just wondering, what bmx guys would say about those 20" hardtails , to me mouthwatering... I know those kind of short but stunning, to look at !!!

 When I saw the title I hoped they will come with some real updates for the 20" Frechdax. Not the case , still too big 360CS in relation to the 315 reach. Just think about as an adult to have 450 reach and a 514CS, total crap. If only Commencal could make the 20" Clash under 10kg... guess a full susspension will have to wait until my kid will be big enough for 24".
For those complaining about price I must let them know that in Germany there are more second hand buy requests than offers Frechdax. Good kids bikes have a good resell value.

 If my daughters were into mountain biking like I am I would totally invest in nice bikes like these for them. But they are not so they ride Haros.

 Awesome stuff. It's great to think of the little ones.
It would be nice if derailleur manufacturers made a kid-size version. The derailleurs on those 20" bikes seem like they would get too close to the ground.

 The problem lays within gearing. No matter how strong/tall/heavy/old you are, you still need the same gear range. Which means same cassette. Which means same derailleur.

If derailleur manufacturers could manage to make them smaller for kids, I'd want one too!

 @Leicester: Right. So perhaps there could be a smaller chain standard (less distance between rollers, smaller roller diameter, and narrower chain), although I imagine it would be a massive retooling expense. With a smaller chain, the cassette and derailleur could be smaller.

 @DangerDavez: Ya the Clash 20" is sweet but its considerably heavier, and more expensive.

 Not in the US without jumping through a bunch of hoops and cost. The clash is a better bike but you have to upgrade some of the garbage components. Brakes sucks, wheels/tires are heavy DH only. The geo and suspension is why you buy the clash and upgrade it. You are into Trailcraft kind of money then but in the end the bikes suspension etc is a whole different league than the adult suspension on a Propain (which is a great value and still very nice)

 Yeah... I was on a cheap BMX, frankenstined from whatever I could get... inner tubes patched so many times it inspired cushcore.... different colour/shape grips were not a status symbol, I just couldn't afford matching proper ones... 2 grand for a kid's bike outgrowned in 6 months time.... what next...? e-balance bikes....!? mad....

 If you enjoy getting triggered go to the commencal page they offer kids e- bikes for close to 3k. And yeah, i visited Ireland in 95 and back then it was a zadrot country.

 These bike will last 2 or 3 years but you have to remember the resale on kids bikes is good, we usually have a waiting list for Hendriks(4) bikes. For us we have no problem putting money into bikes as its our thing. Some parents spend money on hockey, golf or football... for us its bikes.

My older went from 98 cm (3y.o.) when he started riding his Ramones 16 to 120cm in 2 years. For the Christmas I have to buy him a 20" bike.
I'll go with Commencal Meta ht 20 most probably.

 @dinosaurmonkey: Same here. We don't sell bikes (yet) because we have 3 kids and they will all ride same bikes.

Just yesterday we came back from Avoriaz (resort above Morzine) and kids were there without their own bikes so we rented some. After 5 minutes on the pumptrack my oldest decided that he can't do it because his bike is bad. He wouldn't even ride it around resort any more.
So an hour after we came back home, they jumped on their bikes and then rode local pumptrack almost all
the afternoon. I guess even small kids can tell the difference between good and bad bikes

 @David-Stevens: Why do you say "unfortunately? You may not have realized that those bikes are a fantastic stepping stone into dirt bikes, and a number of those kids are shredding them at the moto tracks. Dirt bike racing is a (rather popular) sport, so why not electric balance bikes?

 Most avg parents spend at least a few grand on ball /sports or gymnastics, etc. Each year. Ever follow the national BMX circuit? These aren't that bad.

 Not really man. Bikes for kids that ride bigger stuff than most adults. When you watch 7yro kids jumping lengthwise of a car and flying down scary stuff, you realize that kids just ride hard these days and need the good stuff to do it halfway safely.
