Video: Sam Reynolds Rips Wales' Revolution Bike Park

bigquotes“Go on, just try it for a lap, trust me!” - Sik Mik pestered me every day at team camp to try his new secret prototype downhill bike earlier this year.

“Alright… Fine” I finally agreed after a week, even though my flat shoes didn’t really compliment the clip pedals on there. Yet it only took until the end of the first section at the Queenstown bike park to know what he had meant and that this bike was something special. Even with close to zero grip on the pedals, the bike glided over the slippery roots and the tyres stuck to the ground like I had never really felt before. Fast forward 6 months and with the first full production model built up to my own specs including actual flat pedals here I am back home on the other side of the world with the task of taming this beast.

After a quick session at the local hill, I packed up the van and headed off to mountains much steeper and more worthy of the 230mm of travel to really see what this bike can handle. Of course, it was raining in Wales but it didn’t dampen our spirits and actually provided a more testing scenario for our session, with slick mud, wet rocks and roots that would really have given a lesser bike a hard time. But just as in Queenstown I couldn’t believe how the suspension just stuck the bike to the floor and gave me the confidence to hurtle down through the trees. The pedalling efficiency really is impressive but due to the nature of the suspension design, I was nervous as to how it would handle the jumps for a bike which feels like it’s glued to the ground. But I guess you’ll have to see it for yourself and check out the video!

 @Hammer48:

Got you back up bro.

 Yeah, but it's too bad he'll cut in front of you in the line for the lift to the top of the mountain. What a dick move Sam! So, here come the down votes because I speak of courtesy.

 @lenmerderdenfer: it’s called the French Line Smile

 @lenmerderdenfer: haha sorry if that's true, it wouldnt have been on purpose! Where was it?

 @SamReynolds26: It was at Morzine, Le Pleney, around Crankworx. I wasn't laughing though. I really thought a lot of you -- I even wanted to say "Hey how's it going?" to you, and to tell you how much I dig your style. Then, I watched in disbelief as you cut a very long line. What a let down. Why?
  • 4 2
 @lenmerderdenfer: get over it mate ! Do you really need to know Why !

 @lenmerderdenfer: are you for real? we stayed two weeks in france and the amount of brass neck french line hopping c*nts we came across was unbelivable seemed like because they were locals they were entitled? the man apologized just acccept and get on with it!

 @markbe: The lack of civil discourse these days is just amazing. Now, the PinkDick dudes are piling up on me asking if I'm for real and to get over it. Ok! So, I'll just go straight to the lift and to hell with everyone else. "The line doesn't apply for me" as I'm above you all. Is this what you want.

 @Matt115lamb: He asked a question so, I responded. What's your stick?

 @lenmerderdenfer: I’m cool however after @markb’s comment you’ll probably need therapy !

 @Matt115lamb: I'm not French. Lots of UK boys and girls jump line in Les Portes de Soleil.

 @lenmerderdenfer: I’ve been twice now and can’t remember seeing anyone walk straight to the front , maybe joined in with buddies but who cares ! Anyway brits love queues lol

 Is it just me or is it all the British riders who have the best attitudes towards the sport? Sam Reynolds, Brendog, Rat Boy, Peaty, Bernard Kerr, Matt Jones, all so humble and fun loving, more so than pro riders from anywhere else in my opinion.

 Ok, now for balance you need to name the bastards of the sport.
  • 2 0
 They can be secretly contemplating stangling their competitions to death just to win but they are not showing this on the surface...
  • 2 1
 You forgot Gee.
  • 1 1
 @BenPea: All frenchies obviously Wink

 Generally us riders are all pretty chilled in the UK, it's all about having fun and dicking about on bikes, just like when you were a kid! Skids, wheelies and jumps!
Brendog was riding trains with us at Black Mountains with his rampage build crew (Olly Wilkins and the Deakinator) the week before they went to start digging. This happens quite often over here, we've had ews riders at our local trails too...

 I think it's partly down to the editing style as well. A lot of the stuff the comes out of places like North America seems to have cinematic quality and takes itself very seriously. It makes for impressive vids but i feel like we hit saturation point for those sorts of things a while back (kind of Coastal Crew golden years). Once you've got over that, there just seems like a little less substance behind the video other than trying to look cool. Whereas as a lot of vids that come from UK guys seem to be a bit more focused on the riding and a little less on Hollywood level editing. That's not to say the editing is half baked, but it's a bit more of balance. It feels like it's still quite heavily influence by stuff like Sprung and all that.

 @MikeyMT: That was a rotten trick, especially at this sensitive time for diplomacy between our great nations. As punishment, we will allow your funny amber gibbon to return home unscathed.

 Is crashing at Revolution as horrifying as it seems?
  • 3 0
 yes...shredded skin for breakfast, lunch and dinner

 The amount of broken collar bones at Revs is slightly alarming...
  • 8 0
 @IllestT: Also, the track L1 is named after a guy that broke his L1 vertebra on the track Blank Stare savage stuff, hella fun tho
  • 2 0
 Yeah, Revo beats people up pretty bad. First time I ever went there I walked (Read: hobbled) away with purple balls. Like, legit purple balls.
  • 5 4
 you get beaten up your bike gets beaten up and you literally ride until you can’t hold on anymore fall off and then call it a day.

I was up last weekend and and they really need to do something about the tracks. All the downhill tracks are ruined and all the jump lines have ridiculously deep braking bumps all the way down them and they don’t seem to do anything about it which considering the amount of money they charge they really should. Never leave having had a bad time though. Been going for years and don’t plan on stopping though.

 Awesome riding by Sam, didn't get 2 see close up of the bike, seemed to be lurking in the shadows at the start of the vid. I wonder why?

 Def worth a visit
  • 1 0
 Def do it, its my local and has been even better than usual since the rebuild.
  • 1 0
 Have it done.
  • 1 2
 Doesn't look like an agile bike even in sam's hands...maybe it goes down like a beast, but doesn't seem like a fun bike to ride and jump. The video reflects this, only for the well trained eye... The older polygon dh bike was so sweet. If it wasn't so expensive, there would be thousands of them in the trails.
