The biggest event for young downhill riders is just around the corner! The Bikepark Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis hosts the Rookies Festival for the fourth time already. Highlights are the Specialized Rookies Cup, as well as the iXS International Rookies Championships.
200 young talented riders are already registered for the weekend’s race. Athletes from 18 nations are on their way to the festival, which is dedicated to young athletes alone. The idea of dedicating the festival to young riders was established in 2014 and is by now well-known among current events. From the age of 11 years, racers get the chance to compete internationally and gain a head start in international competitions. It is not only about preparation for international races, but also about possible first achievements. Nevertheless, fun is the most important part and should always be first.
With the Rookies Camp on Monday, July 31, events started. The 30 participants of the quickly booked camp encounter numerous activities, such as all/inclusive mechanical support and specialized courses for the Young Guns by experienced coaches.
The official start of the MTB Festival is Friday. In the evening, the fastest contestant on the course will be determined in the Pumptrack Session, after getting down to business with the Seeding Run for the Specialized Rookies Cup earlier on.
Final races for the Rookies Cup will be held on Saturday. The fourth, out of the six-race series will be settled and, besides the day’s victory, important points for the overall standing can be collected. Yet, there is one special feature: This race accounts as the seeding run for the iXS Rookies Championships. Due to its great importance, the seeding run will be broadcast live.
The most important day will be Sunday when for the fourth time, the iXS International Rookies Champions will be awarded in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis. This competition was initiated for all classes, which do not have UCI World Championships, and furthermore to provide a platform for the big shots of tomorrow’s Downhill sports. The edgy casted race will produce the 2017’s champions, who might look into a bright future. The riders certainly will track attention as vast amounts of viewers will follow the race live on pinkbike.com.
At the Family Challenge, all Downhill-loving moms and dads have the chance to race the track themselves. The winner is the team with the fastest combined time.
Detailed air times will be published on the Bikepark website.
