They just put one of these 150k$ pump tracks in at our town... it's an unbelievable training tool. I don't have a DJ or BMX at the moment so I'm running my 140mm 29er through it, great practice at being agile with the bike and leaning it over big time. They aren't your average track, that's for sure. The bowl turns are about 6ft or more and some are S-turns where you've got to really be on it. Pretty fun. Great for the groms too. Watching guys that can really ride it is a whole other thing tho...its like checkers to chess, they just see the track in a whole different way and double/triple stuff.
I have a pretty successful BMX racer on my NICA team. He randomly showed up to the track, the one in Springdale, yesterday with his race bike and I was on my DJ. He did a couple of timed laps on each bike and there was only a .01 second difference between the two. So I'd say at least in his case it's a wash.
@cofo11: Same for some of my kids. We have one of the fastest 15 year old cruiser racers in the country right now and she has no problem with anything on our track on her xc bike.
I raced the italian round of ptwc last month..i raced a 24’ cruiser bmx thinking of carrying the best of both worlds.. I thought 20’ were faster hands down on a track like this..but were surprised about how fast 26 mtb were..even on tight turns.. At the end 20’ won..but mostly for a fitness/endurance factor after all those rounds..
I’m not into the whole pump track think but this is pretty cool. About time.
