PRESS RELEASE: Red Bull Pump Track World Championship

With 7 races having already taken place throughout Africa, Asia and South America, this weekend saw the Red Bull Pump Track World Championship arrive in Austria for the first of the European qualifiers.

Over 70 riders from 10 countries descended upon the small town of Neunkirchen in Austria ready to battle it out on the Velosolutions Pump Track for their chance to qualify for the World Final.

With a field of international riders across BMX and MTB, there was much discussion around the bike of choice for the technical and tight track.

Olympic BMX racer Romana Labonkova would battle it out against Austria’s own national BMX team member, Vanessa Kager, in the head to head races. It was a tightly contested race throughout the day but Labonkova, having opted to race on her mountain bike, would take the win and guarantee her ticket to the final.

In the men’s field, local favourite, Eric Holzer proved himself to be a threat by setting the fastest seeding lap earlier in the day. However, as the knock out heats began, the experience of 4-Cross World Championship finalist Hannes Slavik and UCI MTB World Cup racer Brage Vestavik would prove what was needed to make the final. Eric Holzer would have to settle for 3rd and watch from the side lines as Slavik and Vestavik raced to the line with just 0.04 seconds separating them. Hannes Slavik would take the win on the day but with the top 4 men and women securing a place in the World Final, all is still to play for.

information.

The Red Bull Pump Track World Championship will head to the USA next as the Velosolutions Pump Track in Oklahoma City is set to host the countries first stop of two on the 19th of May.
