PRESS RELEASE: Red Bull SPECT

The all new bike specific range by Red Bull SPECT is designed for all types of riding disciplines. Wether you’re attacking steep mountain bike trails or coasting along your favourite roads the four new models are practical, affordable and designed with purpose.

Each of the four new models (Dakota, Daft, Nick & Jayden) benefit from a wide field of vision thanks to the mono shield lens shape. The CAT-3 polycarbonate lenses are robust, shatterproof the offer the perfect mix of UV light protection and sun glare reduction. Red Bull SPECT also offer photochromic options. Both the Nick & Jayden (featured below) are also designed to be RX compatible.

Each model features a TR90 frame which is lightweight, durable and impact resistant, designed to bend not break under pressure. The frame is also rubberised to ensure they don’t slip whilst riding.

This is very strange to me, for years Red Bull was the PINNACLE of protecting brand identity, pretty much the only thing that you could buy with the red bull logo, was a can of red bull. If a Red Bull athlete gives away their helmet, they have to cut the straps out so it can't be worn. Then in the last several years, you can buy the Red Bull racing gear, replicas of the Factory Red Bull motocross bikes, and now putting their logo on glasses. I guess they figure if everyone is going to make counterfeit stuff, we might as well make money off making the real stuff.

Hey, someone has to pay for that F1 motor, and it's not Honda anymore.

the massive amount of red bull f1 gear being sold tipped me off to this policy shift as well. I was surprised.

This is why I always found Red Bull sports to be unique. Every junior high kid has a Monster Energy hat meanwhile Red Bull only gives them to athletes. It's weird that they decide to sell a pair of glasses of all things.

@blcpdx: "Leveraged insights to develop apparel brand framework including positioning, target customer, brand promise, archetypes" - I fell asleep before reading to the end of this sentence.

Red Bull has been selling merchandise, apareal and glasses already for over 10 years. Also the glasses have been available (at least in Europe) for a very long time.

Usually you just can not buy the "official items" that the sponsored athletes are getting.
So for example you won't be able to get a cap with only the Red Bull Logo. If you see one for sale its fake. Same with T-shirts, hoodies and so on.

All items you can buy are related to either events, disciplines of lifestyle fashion. (all available in the redbullshop com categorized by "Fan Shop"

But I agree it can be somewhat difficult to understand that differentiation.

@sprecks57: It's important to remember that the eyewear they've been producing all these years has been (and likely will continue to be, in perpetuity, because that's what kind of a company Red Bull is) absolute shit.
  • 1 0
 @sprecks57: exactly!
Literally working a Red Bull event right now. They have been a client since 2000. I have a ton of Red Bull swag but it's all branded with the event.

It is bizarre. In the automotive design world, they say you are either building a brand or cashing out on one. I guess maybe we are seeing Red Bull start that transition.

Their models sound like they came from a suburban household.
  • 2 0
 no, that'd be Daft

 Redbull? Like the energy drink...?

You lose the UCI contract and you have to make up for it somehow
  • 14 0
 It's got electrolytes.
  • 16 0
 @oscartheballer: Its what plants crave!

 Haha. Good one.

I'm so old that when I first worked at Red Bull a consistent part of their message was we make one product, in one size, in one flavor... people genuinely freaked TF out when Sugar Free launched. Interesting to see them diversify beyond beverages and content. Dietrich gotta make his $$$ i guess.

Think some folk here don’t realise that Red Bull has been making specs for years.
In fact having owned Oakleys, Smith, Melon, Sungod, etc, the Red Bull glasses I had were without a doubt the nicest lens.
  • 1 0
For pro athletes, anyone good enough to have a red bull helmet probably also has a lucrative income from Oakley or 100% or smith etc. Are red bull going to force them out of those contracts to wear their own eyewear?
  • 5 2
Do they realize April Fools was a few days ago?
  • 2 0
They look too small around the nose to fit cattle. (Sheesh my 7 year old daughter would LOVE that joke)
  • 2 2
This is the first mistake I've seen from RB in quite some time.

The better move would have been to partner with a couple brands like Oakley and 100% and do RB specific models.

That first photo...it might be roost, but the face says it might also be shart.

Great more overpriced Luke skywalker shades. One word sunglasses industry. Goodr.

The little features diagram says these are ideal for all sports. Nice try Red Bull.

The model names alone are enough to make me buy sunglasses from the gas station.
