Video : Benjamin Rouiller in Morgins, Switzerland

Benjamin Rouiller is a young swiss rider shredding hard his Scott Gambler. He is now riding for the Bikeshop of Champéry-les-Crosets and you have maybe seen his black jersey yet on Morgins tracks. I think it's one of the best place to see Benji riding because he knows each of the four trails very well and always takes nasty lines. I spent one day shooting with him this summer, but rain came up and we had to shorten the filming. Last week end he took the train to France for dirt jumping in my brand new place and made me happy by sending 360 and flips over anything ridable. I took a moment to ask him some questions.


-Who are you ?
Hi, my name is Benjamin Rouiller. I'm 18 years old and I live in Switzerland. I ride BMX since I'm 12 and I started to ride a mountain bike in 2011.

-Why did you get to mountain bike instead of BMX ?
I started BMX because of my brother. It took me 2 years to be cool with it and then I started competition. My coaches was Ben and Will Walker and they pushed me to try a downhill bike. I had so much more fun than with my 20 inches that I stopped utterly BMX to drift a big bike.

-Can you describe your riding style?
BMX built my base style, always attacking, right on top of my handlebar. I ride with slack head angle like american choppers so I can drift turns. I try to be wild, to burst berms, to be afraid. I want to be nasty on my bike and I love when dirt splash up!

-Is there someone you want to be like?
Not really…As I'm often in Champéry I follow easily Ben Walker's teaching. Otherwise I like punk riders as Alex Prochazka or Andreu Lacondeguy.

-Your best memory on a bike? And the worst ?
My best moments are when I'm riding with friends of Champéry or riders from Evian. Nothing much precise, just all of these moments. The worst? Maybe my BMX competitions when everybody looks down on you because you start to go faster.

-You made some IXS DH Cups this year, what's next for 2013 ?
Despite I love going fast, I don't like the serious ambiance that reminds me BMX. In 2013 I will only make races I like. On the other side I want to ride freeride harder and make more videos. Also we have nothing for dirt jumping near my house. I will try to develop something.

-Describe your perfect day.
Without any doubt a day shredding with my friends in a freeride spot, being wild all day long and beers waiting in the fridge !

-What tunes do you listen to ?
Rockabilly, surf, blues, country, punk, rock’n’roll !

-Your favorite spot ?
Every spots where I can push my limits, take stupid lines, be afraid and have fun. In fact every trails of Champéry builders! I think also about Bex. Just near my home, we are going like crazy in sleaves. I can make myself very afraid in Bex.
