Bernard Kerr Torture Testing His Carbon Wheels - Video

Press Release

It's always better to be the hammer than the nail, but Bernard's been riding these same wheels since January and they're still taking the beating. He's pounded them for over 200 practice laps and three race runs, including the Valparaiso Urban Downhill and there's nary a nick in them.

The rim dimensions are the same as the Enduro 27.5 that he helped develop, but it's 40% stronger on impact strength. Reynolds cooperated with an aerospace carbon fiber vendor and used an entirely new resin and curing process in making the improvements. They feel so confident in their new made in the USA wheels that they're selling them with a lifetime warranty at reynoldscycling.com.

Good carbon wheels are really good. Enve... Reynolds... I9 (made by Reynolds)... If you're going to spend your money on carbon wheels, get good ones.

@PAmtbiker: I've destroyed two ENVE's. One catastrophically, one just started cracking/delaming and I noticed it one day.

Thats funny cause I railed the dog piss out of my enduro carbons made by light bicycle for two years and never had an issue, yet have several friends who have blowed up their ENVE's

Great trails, awesome rider, holy sped up spastic footage Batman. I am sure He went faster than anyone else on those trails, why soil the footage by speeding it up? I grew up riding these trails and they are wheel and ride killers!

I wonder when it was filmed. We rode today and the rock lip on the jump into the chute is totally dislodged. Sick edit though!

@SwampThAAng: could have been a few days ago. You know people like to move things around at somo haha. I bet pretty recent though since he was just at sea otter
  • 1 0
What SOMO trails was he riding?
  • 1 0
@slayerdegnar: Geronimo. The jumps and big gaps were Papago park.

 Hold up. LIFETIME warranty?
  • 8 0
Well actually they'll be around even after you can't ride them anymore... But the whole legal thing with passing them on to your kids is complicated so to avoid that they left it at lifetime

 That's pretty good really eh

website says nothing about that, and sells "wheel assurance" for extra.

@lyophilization: I like how you read between the lines. Where the 'wheel assurance' covers smashing your rims into rocks, here's the warranty info: www.reynoldscycling.com/support/warranty

Limited lifetime warranty covering manufacturing defects for original owners of the rims set as long as they are bought directly from Reynolds or an Authorized Dealer.

@RideTahoe707: So for all pratical purposes, no better warranty than Ibis's 7 year warranty. If it wer me, I would save the 50% per rim.

@carym: True dat. it's always good to be skeptical of the hype!

A can confirm that the trails in Phoenix are anxious to destroy your wheels and everything else on your bike or body!

This is probably the third or fourth downhill video to use this song. Am I on the wrong side of an inside joke?

Just need to sell the kid...
  • 2 0
If only you could get a refund. That would be a big check.
  • 4 1
Those rocks look soft, bring them to Bootleg.
  • 1 0
Okay, but you get the cacti as well! Tech wise, Geronimo is about on par with Snakeback.
  • 2 0
3rd time song has been used lmao
  • 13 0
God I hope this isn't the new "Radioactive" or "Sail." Those songs were at least half tolerable, this one is just a shitstorm of folk-indie-pop cliches: the "whaooaoooaoooo"ing at the beginning, the hand-clap percussion, the cringy faux-edgy lyrics about being a renegade/outlaw/wanted man... f*ck me.

Checked out their website. It doesnt appear that they sell a wheelset that comes in common DH bike axle sizes.
  • 2 0
@rallyimprezive: is there a common size anymore? Lol
