Bart Brentjens, the first male to earn a gold medal in an Olympic mountain bike race, returns to World Cup cross-country competition once again, but this time as a bicycle maker. Brentjens teamed with fellow Dutchman Henk Schipper to re-release American Eagle MTB - named after the aluminum race bike that Bart rode to victory at the 1996 games in Atlanta, Georgia. Bart, who does the designing and product development, says that his first model was intended to celebrate his gold medal moment, so he named the carbon elite-level racing hardtail the "Atlanta." American Eagle MTB also launched a race team this season, which will be campaigning aboard their top-of-the-range Atlanta 2.0 at Nove Mesto this weekend. To put it mildly: everything is on the line. We wish them luck.

That name.. will this bike be available at the mall and come with a free pair of flip flops? Is the team kit going to be an American flag print jersey and cargo shorts? Ooowee--strikes me as an odd pick for high-end carbon bikes... wish Bart the best of luck.

Shame in all you guys for bringing politics to a bike forum. Go ride your fucking bike.

 Let the eagle soar,
Like she’s never soared before.
From rocky coast to golden shore,
Let the mighty eagle soar.

@WAKIdesigns: Eagles are out dated, drones are the things now, you know
  • 2 0
@zede: I enjoyed watching political drama a lot more when it didn't affect me personally.
  • 3 0
@pigman65: I don't think American Drone is a good name either. Might not sell out east.

Bart is a legend in my eyes! I hope he does wel with his new business and team.
  • 12 1
Those chainstays are shorter than the width of a non-boost hub.

 Good looking bike!

I am loving the XC stuff coverage!
  • 10 0
 I'd race it...

I'm being an armchair predictor here but I think this bike is too old school for today's competition. It's no doubt fast and light. But it just doesn't look like it's going to give a rider the technical advantages required at this level on the more technical modern courses. I like Bart and wish him well. But I don't think he has a winner here.

The bike looks to be a 70+ degrees headtube angle so you might be very right. I do not understand why there is no geo chart..
  • 2 0
@fattyheadshok: The funny thing is the bike did in fact win on the women's side

As someone from Atlanta, can you not? This city has enough problems, we don't need our reputation further tarnished. The frame looks direct from Alibaba, and the race he won wasn't even in Atlanta. Please rename Conyers.

He won the gold at the Olympics in Atlanta, which was the first Olympic mtb event.
  • 3 0
@dthomp325: It was the Atlanta Olympics, but the race was held at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers. I like the name tho, and I'm also an Atlanta resident Wink

Hot bike. The naming is a little to obvious. But damn that frame shape is super sexy.
  • 6 1
Was really hoping to see some teenagers in short shorts, damn

Bart was a BAD ASS in the 90s XC scene. His business partner, Henk, was a badass big wig in the bike industry at the same time - worked for SRAM at the time of the 96 Olympics. Sweet bike

Strange to call the brand American Eagle but then paint it orange (i'm assuming because Bart is Dutch)? Don't mess around guys, just go full on stars and stripes to match Kate Courtney's shoes Wink
  • 3 1
The only thing this bike is missing is bar ends. I also wouldn't recommend building a brand image around an XC race that took place in 1996. Yes, I realize that was an important event for you...others...not so much.
  • 4 0
That thing is missing some "Bart-man" sitckers!
  • 3 0
But @o-l-a-v, the fork is gold. "DT Swiss ODL Gold"
I don't think it was supposed to match the orange.
  • 2 0
That bike would actually still fare pretty well down in Conyers. That trail which has changed in 21 years is still a tough XC course.
  • 5 1
"Make American Eagle great again" by putting a threaded BB in there.
  • 1 1
threaded BB's are too heavy for XC weight weenies...

Funny how it says "Shifting: Sram XX1 Eagle" on the Specs of the "American Eagle" and then there is no SRAM Eagle to find on the Pictures..
  • 5 0
That would be entirely my fault...American EAGLE, then typing all that stuff on SRAM's Eagle on every single bike, and finally just automatically adding Eagle after XX1. Oops. I stand corrected Smile . It is an old fashioned XX1 10-42 setup on this team bike.
  • 1 0
@ikeizer: Old fashioned, ha? Good you didn't wrote obsolete.
Last year I bought a new bike and now it is old fashioned already. Go figure. Big Grin
  • 1 0
 @pakleni: same here Smile

How do you run a kmc x11sl chain on eagle? Typo? Or is that chain actually narrow enough for 12spd?
Either way, looks fast, but not very comfortable haha

You do know that CST produces a lot of tyres for other brands?
  • 5 1
@ikeizer: They actually OWN Maxxis, and that is a strong brand on it's own.
  • 2 1
 @JDMEH: exactly

@ikeizer - what the hell man? And so what they produce tyres for other conpanies?! How relevant is that? Tyres with CST logo are shit, just like Kenda, Geax and a dozen more. Maxxis, Michelin E13, bontrager, spec or Schwalbe, or get out of here
  • 2 3
Ah yes, CST logo = shit. Got it.
