An adult jump class should include cocaine, blackjack and strippers. I'm out.

Maybe at the new Reno tradeshow!

Full Trauma Unit and surgeons onsite, or is it BYOTU?

I've been riding for 20+ years. About 5 years ago I spent a day with a local pro (and old school free ride legend) getting some tips to take my riding to the next level. Very humbling experience and I came away with new confidence and some old (bad) habits to break. Worth every penny. I still remind myself of some of those pointers when rolling into something that has me second guessing. My experience wasn't quite as formal as this, but I can see where this would add value for some.

I guess I have to Google where Highland Mountain is - since any information WHERE this is taking place is not found in the article.

Guess you never watched any of the NWD's

Yeah, why is it assumed that everyone knows where every bike park in North America is, when a simple mention of "...at Highland ____, located in the (geographically descriptive) of (insert state here... or is it in Canada?).

That way, some of us won't feel stupid for asking, hit the back button and go watch a rad video... and quickly forget about this and NOT put it on our calendar.

Coming from someone who would be totally into this, and willing to spend the money.

In marketing, this is called "How to kill your conversion rate 101"

@DirtGuru2: how about you open a new tab and take 5 seconds to google it? Cry baby
  • 10 3
@mollow @orastreet1 : 'Cuz it's such an amateur mistake by the promoter and/or author that I don't wanna be that monkey who automatically opens up another tab (when I've already got too many open) and does a search for what should already be in the article.

Great opportunity for them to make a connection for Highland in the reader's minds... "Highland is xxxxx state's premier mountain bike destination with world class.. bla bla bla" but they've missed the opportinity.

I'm gonna go watch a video

EVERY article about a bike park is like this. It doesn't make any sense
  • 7 0
the legend himself, still remember that suicide no hander off the 60 feet at Red Bull Rampage like it was yesterday. Good move highland! I wish there were more places following your footsteps on the east coast, it would make moving out to the west coast much less tempting.
  • 5 7
West coast is still where it's at. Even AZ has mountains 4 thousand feet higher than anything east of the Rockies. Colorado, Utah, California, Arizona... You can't beat em.
  • 10 1
@therealtylerdurden: east coast bike parks are so much better than anything out west. It's not the height of the mountain, it's what you do with it. Killington has 2k of lift accessed vertical. Angel fire and whistler are the only others that get into that realm.
  • 9 0
@therealtylerdurden: I have ridden many bike parks west and east. Highland is one of the best places to ride in north america hands down. Trails are so well thought out and the low key vibe is refreshing compared to the glam of the west.
  • 4 0
@PaulLehr: @madocreg. Well shit. I'll have to ride there sometime!
  • 3 2
@PaulLehr: A part from Western Canada, Bromont (Quebec), and many other New England bike parks have better riding than any of the Western US parks. Not even close.
  • 9 0
From all I'm hearing, I am surprised I even enjoy myself riding out west!
  • 4 0
@PaulLehr: lol someone's never been to Big Sky
  • 5 0
@PaulLehr: Keystone. Go there and shit your pants
  • 1 1
 @greasecheese7: Yew!!

Are we forgetting that Whistler is on the west coast?? I know, not 'Murica. But still.
  • 1 0
@therealtylerdurden: he said apart from western Canada.
  • 2 0
@dbodoggle: oh. Am I allowed to facepalm myself??
  • 3 0
@PaulLehr: lots of bike parks in BC have 2000+ vertical: SunPeaks, SilverStar, Kicking Horse, etc. They all get crowded out by the pull of Whistler, but I'd recommend anyone who's travelling to BC for a biking trip add a stop in at least Kamloops and Vernon, you can do an awesome loop with only about 10-12 hours of total driving going Vancouver -> Whistler -> Kamloops -> Vernon -> Vancouver. Plus the drive between Pemberton and Kamloops is amazing in the summer (if you don't get stuck behind a rental motorhome).
  • 1 0
@greasecheese7: I've been. Go ride Plattekill.
  • 1 2
@plyawn: yea BC isn't western America though. My argument is more that the amount of vertical isn't what makes a good bike park, well built, full as hell, scary but not sketchy (well not too sketchy) trails are what does it. And good jump lines. I love some natural stuff but I have alpine riding for that. Bike parks need maximum hangtime, berm smashing, and gnar.
  • 1 0
@PaulLehr: I'm curious which western bike parks you have ridden. Mind me asking?
  • 2 0
@dbodoggle: angel fire, CB, trestle, keystone, snowmass, deer valley, northstar out west. everything except bailey and windrock back east
  • 2 0
@dbodoggle: also, i'm not saying western parks suck, they don't altitude brings i differnet level to the riding. i just am of the opinion that east coast parks have really raised the fun factor. highland, thunder, platty, mcbp and killington specifically.
  • 1 0
@PaulLehr: I have watched some trail footage from highland and am looking forward to getting out there soon. I live near SLC and mostly do roadtrips within driving distance (angel fire, whistler, silverstar, trestle, etc). I agree with you that location of the bike park isn't what makes it fun. I think there is a tenancy to dismiss places with lower overall elevation without considering prominence and how much planning has gone into the park. If the east coast parks are much better than anything out west, I'll be excited to have my mind blown Big Grin

@dbodoggle: you will not be disappointed! i moved to CO this year and i miss highland more than anything. Ask a local to take you down lunch lady
  • 1 0
@PaulLehr: is the lunch lady hot? I always imagine them as fat af...
  • 1 0
@PaulLehr: damn. Yeah, I'd go down lunch lady, but not with another dude at the same time... That's a little too weird.
  • 10 2
The real question is, will Rachel be there?
  • 4 0
Come on Kyle, bring it south... Reeb Ranch has everything you need man... Not that I can afford the camp but would def pay a small fee to come watch and drink some Pinners Lol!
  • 1 0
Great idea. Reeb's within driving distance and camping is close by.
  • 1 0
 double post
  • 1 0
Swing by Baker in Knoxville for the next weekend. I would say Windrock but people would likely die.
  • 5 1
Don't forget you get 9 meals included, so the net pay isn't that much more for Kyle. If my local mountains offered a similar program I might jump at it.
  • 3 1
If I were able to go, I would hella tip those guys. Would love to see more of these types of clinics. #Northstar round next year?
  • 1 0
i need this class to be in big bear.... $700 for 3 days seems cheap. it is if you live in the area but added hotel makes it pricey. . i think at BB i paid $160 for a couple of hours didn't learn much. but did get front of line access for the lifts.
  • 1 0
If you go to Highland and you're not camping the parking lot you're missing half the fun.
  • 2 0
Was your lesson with Metzger? Sorry to hear it wasn't a good experience. I only go on weekdays just to miss the lines.
  • 1 0
complete waste of money for the naive person who thinks he will have some advantage after he finishes this class. there is only one way to get good at riding and that is to RIDE.
  • 3 0
How many Natty Lites will he slam with us?
  • 1 1
That is nut butters, I'm going to start biking with neighbourhood children when I can. Everyone is special honestly, you can't expect certain things from certain people by teaching them in my opinion.
  • 1 1
I'm not talking down to people, more like talking up, I'm literally saying from experience I could only get so good at biking, even with all my effort and passion on the table.
  • 4 1
 Is that a plus bike?
  • 14 1
Kyle's got some meat on his bones but no need for the insults.
  • 3 0
I think he's serious. When you look at the bike, the black rim/tire combo looks beefy.

I would absolutely LOVE to take this course! Eastern Canada is waiting for you, Kyle! Wink
