What's Up at Fidlock

Fidlock
Fidlock's magnetic "Twist" technology adapted to the downtube. Twist, and it's off. Put the bottle near the latch and it pops on and locks by itself. Fidlock makes a variety of accessories to fit, including a waterproof pouch to stash tubes, tools and food.

Twist bottles have a recess for the female latch. A small removable strap allows the bottle to be replaced if needed.

Fidlock's Twist system is secure enough to allow you to lift the bike with the bottle, and the magnetic release allows the bottle to be easily removed from tight spaces - like beneath reservoir shocks.

My brand new rainbow colored Allen key and torx key set from PBaumann just got downgraded...
  • 4 0
@chriskink: They probably are ebay specials in a posh box. Somehow, bicycle tools tend to be rather low quality, why would those be different?
  • 2 1
Well, Bondhus wrenches are high-quality. However, who wants to spend that much and still have to use an adapter to use the Torx?
  • 3 0
@SJP: Because Silca call this their "Travel Set", so by using a precision made 6mm to 1/4" adaptor it saves room inside the box. Hex keys are very precise, I've got their original set, this is the Centenary set with a different box made from Heartwood of American Walnut.
  • 5 1
@SJP: Just realized the wrenches are made by Bondhus. So, it's a $20 set in a $100 box? Wink
  • 3 1
@FuzzyL: Exactly... not sure why everyone has been drooling over these since they came out. I mean its an L handle with a ball end... not very efficient for daily use.

The rumor has it, all E-bikes will run 26" wheels as well as 20mm and 135 QR axles as the industry's plot to win over Pinkbike crowd...
  • 1 0
@WAKIdesigns: Ah good, so we'll get proper wide rims for our 26" wheels.
  • 20 0
@WAKIdesigns: Oh no, the ebike standard uses 28" wheels, 144/16mm front and 149/13mm rear, these sizes were found to have the best released synergies with electrons providing 0.3% improved chi modal acceleration.

Stop-A-Flat I think your product development team overslept and missed the last 5 most controversial years in the mtb history.
  • 10 2
Not really. Most city/hybrid bikes are still sold in 26" wheel size. That's the targeted crowd really. Either those kind of people who wake up at 5 or 6am to go to work and don't want to deal with flats or those who ride a tire once in a while and are fed up to find out they need to inflate their tire to go riding.

A lot cheaper than cush core or pro core, I wouldn't mind trying it in 29 as long as it doesn't weigh a ton.
  • 2 0
I worked in a bike shop 16 years ago and someone came in trying to flog this foam insert for tyres, it rode awfully and taking a tyre on and off was a nightmare. He had another one that was a tyre foam combo that you could roll of the rim cornering too quickly.

"KMC's X12 12-speed chain works with SRAM and Shimano, and its quick-release master link is reusable and bidirectional." - what, are they retro-compatible to 11s, or is Shimano about to give birth to 12s?
  • 3 0
I would be expecting Shimano to drop 12sp in the very near future. I've also heard industry rumours that they are working on something more than 12sp, but that may just be speculation at this point.
  • 4 0
There will be 12sp XTR next year. Insiders info...

Kmc is who produces a lot of shimano's chains... So...if they are announcing the x12 (which is the lower end of their multispeed chain modeos... The mid and upper are SL or DLC versions) as shimano compatible... Then its because they know what is slated already for production.

  • 10 12
@pakleni: recycle is the name of the game after that article with Pole... there is nothing more sad than a condom that went out of date. However the used ones can't be used - many people know that sperm is not a good sealant. Otherwise they wouldn't exist. Some believe it's God himself making a hole in the rubber. God loves children, he wants more of them. Then he gives some cancer so that they and their family members can understand something about life

Dear Ergon. Thanks for thinking of us but 33mm isn't fat. It's the same outer diameter every other brand has been making for ages. If you really want to do something special make a 34mm or 35mm - THAT is something the other brands aren't doing.
  • 1 4
33mm is the fattest option of most brand so whats wrong with calling it fat?
  • 1 0
I'm with you!!! We need bigger. I don't see why everyone is obsessed with thin grips...
  • 7 0
In regards to the GA2 Fat product, the tech specs listed above are incorrect. The standard GA2 is 30mm in diameter grip, not 32mm. The new GA2 Fat is 33mm.
  • 1 0
Was wondering about that! 1mm seemed kind of inconsequential
  • 1 0

  • 2 1
Stop-a-flat looks interesting, surprised no one else is asking for more details. Just because it's not 27.5 or 29 yet, doesn't mean it won't be coming. And look at the other options for mountain bikers, that are mostly more than 3-6 times more than this $29 price tag (is that for 1 or 2?): www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/article/puncture-preventers-tested-50815
Finally a reasonable price solution for a foam insert. Maybe people here should be expressing interest - show them on here that there is a demand for a reasonably priced alternative.
  • 2 0
What's the weight on the Stop-a-flat?
  • 1 2
@trillot: im sure all they were waiting for was people to show interest on a Pinkbike random post.
  • 1 0
@mollow: And I'm sure as long as there are suckers willing to pay $130 for cushcore, there won't be any reason to bring prices down...
  • 1 1
Dont worry if they could they would
  • 1 0
Hey Park we aren't pulling flywheels off chevy small blocks. Seriously WTF does anyone need with a crown race puller that weighs more than the bike the headset is going on? Total over kill and such an abomination to handle I refuse to use the POS. So many better options than this over priced boat anchor.
  • 6 2
The bottle mount is an excellent idea!
  • 2 0
It's like a more refined version of the Fabric cage less design - if it is easy to remove and replace the bottle when moving then it should be a winner, plus I like the fact you can mount lots of alternative stuff. The boa bottle option looks quite good in particular...
  • 1 0
@slimboyjim: I have some of those for some months and they are great. The reason it won't stick it's simple: Price and margins. They leave 10% margin to a reseller where the VAt is 23% LOOOOL
  • 1 0
@slimboyjim: keep in mind this is going to be a helluva lot heavier than the Fabric system. Still, the mount anything thing is nice.
  • 1 0
@src248: I don't see why it should be too much heavier. Maybe a hundred grams at a guess for couple of pieces of plastic and a couple of magnets? Certainly not something you'd really notice in a blind test.

I do like the Fabric bottles, but they are an arse to fit back onto the studs whilst riding, so I'd be happy with a slight weight penalty if it is easier to use...
  • 1 0
@slimboyjim: I agree. I tend to carry water in a camelbak, so being able to mount other stuff on the bike strikes me as nifty
  • 1 1
It is just a stupid idea, just like fabric - bottle launcher. Just get an elite or king ti cage and you are set.
  • 3 0
@RedRedRe: No. This one works mate. I've tested it in enduro in rough rock sections and it doesn't launch bottles and it's easy to use.

About the weight, it's a little heavy, heavier than a regular bottle cage and water bottle for sure, as it has magnets.
The quality is superb and the water bottle is also great quality.

The only problem is the price for sure and the brand and how they are selling the bottles.
  • 2 0
@RedRedRe: the Fabric system is solid, the bottle doesn't move unless you want it to.
  • 1 0
@src248: it‘s not and i lost 3 of them Wink

Fidlock works much better and is much easier to get out while pedaling and much easier to get back.
  • 1 0
@yaced: I've never had an issue with the Fabric bottles either, but it's good to know the ease of attachment of the Fidlock. Is it still a bit of a challenge to fit?

Now I just want someone to make a first aid kit 'bottle'...
  • 1 0
@slimboyjim no issues mountin and much easier to access and get back into the bottle holder. Much much easier and more secure than the fabrics. They will release more products next year, one being a storage container for that mount
  • 1 0
i wonder why some riders sponsored by fabric are not running their bottle anymore? The idea to have a bottle is quick access, these lock into place systems seem difficult to put the bottle back in place?
Regardless, few years ago, the industry pushed people to move to backpacks ... "weight is better on body than frame, can carry all the water you need etc..." now they changed their "mind"?
  • 3 0

  • 11 2
He admited to it and ate humble pie, though, which I highly respect. Nobody is right all the time; it's how you deal with being wrong that matters.

That said... I think he may have eaten that pie too soon. After 27.5 came out 29 started to become way more popular with 27.5 serving as a stop gap to get people off 26", just like he said would happen. Just look at DH.
  • 5 0
What about all the companies "we will never make 29ers"?
Santa Cruz, Yeti, Giant (sort of), etc etc.
  • 1 0
@ninjatarian: yes, but there is also a difference between confidence and arrogance.
  • 2 1
@RedRedRe: none of those companies are named after a wheel size...
Even after some WC DH riders tried 29ers, for some courses, they went back to 27.5...and the WC champ was on them the whole time. Not to diss 29ers, just the idea that they are the only option, even now that they can be successful in DH.
  • 2 0
@ReformedRoadie: totally. We have different sized frames, we should gratefully accept different sized wheels to match them.
  • 2 1
