Revert 5.0 2017

After much anticipation, Rotec’s heavy hitting entry into the All Mountain arena is here! The Revert 5.0 is now available for order. Not only does the Revert destroy any gravity styled trail, from enduro to flowy jump lines, but the geometry of this new frame is super responsive on any park styled course - and our concentric-bottom-bracket-based based "SPP" (Shared Pivot Point) suspension system makes the rear-wheel tracking and overall handling truly superb. The pedaling efficiency is unbelievable, and with its X-Fusion's Vector air HLR shock and it's perfectly balanced cockpit and amazing center of gravity, it floats over the biggest jumps and obstacles like it has an autopilot function. This extremely comfortable and stable bike redefines fun on two wheels, while being at the pinnacle of all-mountain competition. The Revert 5.0 initially will be sold as a frame for $1499.00 USD without it shock, or with an X-Fusion Vector air shock for $1699.

Revert 5.0 2017

The Revert 5,0 is compatible with either 27.5"or 26" wheels, so you can truly build this frame up to suit you, and the roughest terrain you can find. While going through testing, we have had huge feedback regarding the frame's lightness and handling. The rear end is amazingly stiff, making cornering feel like you are locked into a rail-guided machine. Keep an eye out for the new Revert prototypes floating around the local trails, as our factory pilots show just what these new bikes are designed for.

I wouldn't have published with without some real information. No picks of the linkage or info about the concentric pivot which a lot of us are skeptical of on a trail bike. Pictures are crappy cell phone quality and text is like a spoof of a mtn dew commercial that can't finish a coherent thought before bouncing to the next selling point. Would be doing everybody a favor to cut this article until substance could be included.

The photos are shocking. I want to know where the new dh bike is, the rl9 was amazing to ride!
  • 5 1
It's honestly a good reminder to not get too "bro-stoke" when I write press stuff. It's hard not to write too excited when you're trying to get people excited about a thing. Reading this made me go over some stuff that I wrote recently in my head & think about if I could have done it better.
  • 1 0
@russthedog: Keep your eyes peeled , it's in the works currently.
  • 8 0
 Did Donald Trump write this?
  • 13 1
So... nobody's stoked for the fact it accepts 26" wheels?
  • 2 0
@WAKIdesigns: Accepting 26" makes a more affordable upgrade path for sure.

That said, not sure if you're being sarcastic. :-)
  • 1 0
@russthedog: Agreed, it's a terrible press release which could really have done with a lot more prep. I had an RL9 and it was awesome. I've been keenly awaiting its replacement for ages and then this comes along which on face value and pack of ride report does look a bit weak. Shame really as the guys at Rotec are super helpful and have come up with the goods in the past.

I guess the proof is in a full on review...

What the hell did I just read.

press release. They seem pretty stoked to be back. Not too much info in their text though. RC
  • 11 0
@RichardCunningham: But the title head says, by Richard Cunningham. Does this mean you wrote the press release?
  • 4 1
@davidsimons: my guess is that there is an implied "posted" before by. It is misleading though. I read it and thought, this doesn't read like RC at all...Total guess, but I would assume that with multiple editors they needed a way to identify the uploading party.

 April fool! Wait a minute...
  • 2 0
@RichardCunningham: looks like the Avent Arson from about ten years ago.
  • 5 0
it was almost like that fully sick max rad to the power of epic ebay ad from several years back. it was written as bad as the pics making it hard to take seriously.
  • 1 0
A poorly written "copy and pasted" advert
  • 2 0
so this is an advert basically no qualitiy journalism
  • 3 0
@RichardCunningham: If it is a press release you do not sign it with your name ...

"We have so many things to do better, and pedaling efficiency is one of them. Other bikes are choke artists! They choke! The pedaling efficiency on this bike is unbelievable - the best pedaling efficiency. This bike is gonna be HUGE!"
  • 7 1
Don't know whether to upvote or downvote. . .
  • 1 0
It's going to pedal so well, it's really tremendous.
  • 3 0
Grab it by the bottom bracket.
  • 23 0
The pictures and the writing is pretty poor. Interesting bike but your communication can make or break you.
  • 18 1
If you cant be bothered to trim your cables I cant be bothered to buy your bike...
  • 2 0
Oh my gawd, I was about to think you're just being picky, but looking at those pics - woah!
  • 11 0
Not only did the unbelievable angle of this seat destroy the very last trickle of my believe in humanity, but the truly superb overall quality of these pictures also amazingly ruined my amazing eyesight.

Time to go to bed I reckon. Just don't get tangled up in the cable routing.

Not to be a pessimistic a*shole but that bike looks like it belongs in 2008.
  • 3 0
The build is clearly outdated. XO group, no dropper, non nw rings,... Yeeeks!
  • 3 0
 @freebikeur: renthal ring is nw

but i agree, looks like a 08'ish iron horse azure
  • 1 0
@freebikeur The press release specifies park/slopestyle geo, and the bike features a road cassette out back. I think, despite the article title, it's meant to be a gravity-focused build.
  • 10 1
Who wrote this, Trump? "This bike is ammaaazing. It's going to be huge. All other bikes will want to be it."
  • 9 0
As far as article quality goes, I believe that's 'phonin it in'
  • 9 0
Probably most pink bike members wont have even heard of rotec before. :-(
  • 3 0
I think it was 1999 when my biggest "rival" in the DH faces showed up on one of the first Rotec DH bikes... Scaled down motocross frame, concentric pivot, the works. I didn't stood a chance, in my Giant ATX 990 Smile
  • 6 0
Wait? How did this 'Buy/Sell' add for some teenager's tweaked out '08 Walmart rig end up in Pinkbike's main news feed? So confused...
  • 8 0
 Frame travel???
  • 1 0
 I'd guess from it's name that it's 5 inches.
  • 6 0
It took me clear to the words "After much anticipation" to realize that RC didn't write this.
  • 6 1
Loved Rotec for years. The RL9'a I've had are without a doubt the most responsive DH bikes I've owned. Good on you Sully for coming out with something really fresh.
  • 6 0
I hate marketing BS like the type Sram does, but you truly need some advice of people from the area.
  • 7 0
I thought it was a throwback bike read?
  • 3 1
 OMG...really?

I step away for a few years and all hell breaks loose. Okay, I get it... most of you are confused and bewildered by what you saw and read.

I can understand that, I can also understand why a majority of the comments were made...I get that too.

So if you are going to understand this right, I guess I need to be the one to set it straight and make it right...some of you may take offense to how I am going to present myself right now and to be honest I don't care.. since you didn't I wont either.

First off I'm John Sullivan, those who know Rotec from years past know me as Sully know who I am.

Those of you that don't, well what can I say, being that this is PB most of you were likely 10 yrs old then when I got involved with Rotec as a rider then as its 2nd owner over 23 years ago

So I feel that a back story is needed to say me peace, Rotec started in 1997 in Southern California...made quite the stir in the mountain bike industry of that period and granted for most of you that's ancient history.

Hell, some of you probably have parents that remember or even rode our brand and experienced the great the bad and yes even the ugly or watched its journey back like the Phoenix from the ashes that it was before I bought the company in 2001.

Look everybody, I'm not here to make excuses about how this particular model was released to the public..it is what is was, nothing any of us can do about now as all that is now part of internet history.

What I'm here to do is clear the air, define the intent of what is and share what's coming in the future for ROTEC.

So first and foremost...Rotec was a brand that was defined by its gravity heritage and still is... Rotec was never about climbing a mountain or a 30 mile loop on a XC adventure trail.

When Rotec was created by its original owners they had only had one thing on their mind and that was the descent! Back in those days the technology of the brand was firmly planted in moto not climbing.

When I acquired the brand in 2001 the mountain bike industry was in a serious state of flux, things were changing, the bikes the culture the racing hell it was all being turned upside down and I stepped right in it with a passion for things that I didn't quite fully understand.

What I did know was that I loved DH and I loved what DH meant for those that did it too. I wanted to be apart of it. Did I have a lot to learn? absolutely, did I have people tell me What the HELL are doing getting involved?? lol what do you think? hell yeah they did, but I didn't care.

So I did what I loved and did it the best I could..I knew I wasn't going to change the biking world, but what I did care about was changing what the world thought of the ROTEC brand as a whole. Those who knew me understood my drive and wished me luck and for many, they supported me and even more still do today.

I've been on and off Pink Bike since its early days and trust me its always been full of passion for biking but like anything great its also been full of cynics, naysayers and folks that just don't have anything good to say about anything that's relevant other then to say ooh look at the decal color or the seat is crap or the brake cable is to short or to long or whatever.. yeah I'm talking to you!!

Its good though, that's what's great about opinions... you get to see both sides of it. There's always bad with good its not a perfect world, nor is this industry or bikes for that matter but there always a bike for those who chose to ride them....period, regardless of what opinions are.

So for all of you that said the REVERT 5.0 is a joke or a Walmart bike, God bless , You have an opinion and I love you for it cause like a*sholes we all have one and god knows I love mine.

For those of you that want the real skinny on what this bike is all about... well as a 26/27.5, 4-5 inch travel concentric bb bike its no 30 mile loop adventure rig that's for sure. Can you climb with it? Of course you can because any great air shock on the market today with lock out or climb mode will make it climb. This rig is about the descent, the gravity sensibilities it provides, the thrill of the jump and the slope of the park you ride it in.

Look did the release say things that, well... may not have been quite accurate? Well like anything written about ANY bike in this industry that we call cycling.... its all SUBJECTIVE.

What's crappy to you may not be to others, what's killer to me may not be to you or what readers see in the magazine's, you tube or social media.. its HYPE...and trust me its all marketing. It doesn't matter of which brand out there is giving it, all say it and do it...why because they are all vying for your biking dollar.

My issue is with objectivity...or the lack of it when discussing products one has no experience with or knowledge of...look folks we are not wild animals here that are ruled by pack mentality so quite acting like you are.

You want to know who ROTEC is and what we're about put your man pants and be an adult, use your mind and not your a*shole to communicate with.

I'm an ADULT here and most likely older then you... I want to talk to you as an ADULT.. so be one.

New in 2017 - Shimano - Autopilot Function
  • 6 0
Someone needs to fire their marketing team.
  • 5 0
 Don't think they have one.
  • 4 0
 They definitely don't now.
  • 3 0
How many bar spins can you do with that much housing??? and isn't it mandatory for Enduro bikes to have stealth dropper post routing???
  • 4 0
Is this even an enduro bike? It has a DH cassette, no dropper and a saddle set up to be perpendicular to the ST
  • 1 0
Clearly not a bike you're going to ride uphill. I'm not sure what the point of this thing is. there are plenty of better dedicated DH bikes with actual DH forks too
  • 1 0
Not sure why the title of the "Press Release" was "AM/Enduro Racer" where as down below it says "Aggressive Park/Slopestyle"
  • 1 0
My friend from back in the day should design a bike, I remember he used to always go on, "this is f*cking shit, that is f*cking shit, f*cking shitty rims always bending, all this shitty shit here". It would be interesting to see what would come of him designing what would be a good bike in his mind.
  • 5 1
I think they need longer brake cables.
  • 5 1
concentric pivot. great for single speed, horrible for pedaling.
  • 3 0
Stopped reading at "without it shock" - wait, who am I kidding, I actually began to read there
  • 4 0
It looks like a Walmart bike.
  • 1 0
The Rl9 Dh bike is reliable and the attention to detail is top notch. this trail bike im sure is a fun bike i would like to see a 65 head tube angle on it. The new rotec Dh bike will dominate the mtn!
  • 4 1
 Wow that's a deal... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 7 4
wallmart bike for thouse who do not have wallmart?

Finally, short seat tubes for longer droppers! Bike designers pay attention.
  • 4 1
So awesome they couldn't be bothered to trim the brake lines.
  • 5 2
 On another note: Goodbye Donald.
  • 2 0
If you guys ever made a Lawill trail bike like the RL9 I would be all over it. Love that design.
  • 1 0
26" compatibility will be a great selling point in 2017. The first muddy ride on that bike...the rear cable housing is going to slice into the seat tube.
  • 3 0
at first glance, I thought this was a kid's bike
  • 2 0
Headline say's trail AM, but i'm looking at that thinking "nice slope/park rig".......
  • 2 0
Back then the Rl9 was the reel thing The yeti suspension was build on lawwil patent I'm shure it is going to work well
  • 1 0
Looks like the Black market Killswitch. The bottom bracket pivot is something I have on my old Cove g-spot, nightmare to clean and bobs more than a dead fish.
  • 2 3
Very happy seeing Rotec making a comeback. Some of the smoothest riding bikes ever. People are making such a fuss over the write up and grainy pics and forgetting about the bike itself. Seriously excited to get one!!
  • 3 2
i think it looks like a solid bike...aside from the tangled winch line all over the bars.
  • 3 1
Looks like a proper rig. Rotec is back!
  • 1 0
An enduro bike with aggressive park / slopestyle geometry?
That makes sense! Rolleyes
  • 2 0
 Doesn't look like a session (y)
  • 4 3
I think it looks great. More information please.
  • 2 2

This bike was beat to an inch of it's life with an ugly stick. Poor bike.
  • 2 2
 That's one ugly mother f*cker
  • 1 1
Amazing how a 66 degree head angle "seems" to look so steep.
  • 2 2
 Garbage
  • 4 6
I'd be terrified to trust my life to this bike
