For 2018 we've taken on board all the feedback from the last few years and put together a spec package to address every upgrade suggested by reviewers and customers alike. Introducing, the Calibre Bossnut Evo, available now for £999 at GO Outdoors with £10 international shipping.

 I've gotta say when I had a go one one of these I was more than pleasantly surprised, especially for the money. I think I'd rather be on a cheaper bike and shred it to shit than be one of those dudes with all the gear and absolutely no idea.
  • 24 2
 Surprise, it even has a threaded bottom bracket instead of the cheapo press fit. Cue the "But I've never had a problem with my press fit bb." from Joey.

 Best bit is if your military, emergency services etc (and have a blue light card or that other forces one), you get a further 10% off!! Check that first but its the case with everything else. £898 bike is better than a £999 bike!!
  • 60 0
 Options for 1000£:
- a full bike that can shred
- a X01 groupset to put in the living room while waiting another 10 years to get all the other bits.

 You can't buy a decent FS frame for £1000
  • 4 0
 @tom666: nukeproof mega
  • 2 0
 @tom666: Alutech ICB2.0.
  • 4 0
 @tom666: airdrop edit
  • 4 0
 @tom666: Bird Aeris 145
  • 3 3
 @dudee47: Nukeproof Mega frameset is £1599 on crc. Bird Aeris frameset is £1100. Airdrop is £999 with a shock so fairplay that's the same price as this entire FS bike. Alutech is 1099euros which is probably a hair under a £1000 by the time you've paid an exchange rate, been charged for a non gbp transaction and shipping to the UK.

This calibre is crazy, crazy value. It's difficult to name a frame you can buy for less. There might be one or two but there barely are.
  • 2 0
 @tom666: Ah, come on. 1099 euro (Alutech ICB2.0 raw without shock) plus 33.95 shipping to the UK makes 1132.95. That should be 1000.37GBP today. I'd say it is a good option, even if it is way beyond the 1kGBP limit. But it really depends on what you look for in a frame. I prefer my toptubes nice and low and that respect I think the ICB2.0 is great. Those who look for a frame with bottle mounts should indeed opt for a different frame. But that doesn't make one frame more "decent" than the other, just a matter of preference.

In short, yes you can get a decent (or actually, pretty good) FS frame for 1000GBP. But the way it fits you is really important too. To me it would be even more important than squat, jack, drivetrain efficiency, axle path and everything else that goes with proper armchair engineering. So for this Calibre frame, the high top tube would put me off no matter how cheap it is.

 Possibly the most highly reviewed bike for sub 1K. Let's be honest though, bottle cage under the downtube = No bottle cage.
  • 4 2
 True dat. I have dropped my water bottle so many times trying to get back down there. One time during a race, that sucked.
  • 8 2
 @MTBingSpartan: And here in Wales it gets covered in sh*t every ride, not very appealing afterwards
  • 3 4
 @Hoob93: also true. Whenever I go on a short ride and don’t bring a water bottle my cage gets all bent up and can’t even hold a water bottle anymore.
  • 15 1
 How has a universal strap on bottle cage with a slimline bottle not been invented yet?

Even if it were only a small bottle, some water's better than none right?
  • 34 1
 @excavator666: actually boost water bottles are coming out soon
Sorry your frame is incompatible.
  • 3 0
 @Sshredder: I actually LOLed at that, thank you.
  • 4 0
 @excavator666: strap on mounts do exist, use whatever cage you like and put it anywhere.
  • 3 0
 @Hoob93: Literally, so much overlap between trails and dairy/sheep farming in South UK.
I remember one *ROAD* ride when I lived in Devon where we went flying down a road (nicknamed "cow p1ss lane", we were told just seconds before we found out why), which was 10cm deep in fresh steaming for about 50 metres... Apart from the group regulars who were in the know and had brought their winter bikes with fenders, the other 7 or 8 of us had our lycra covered head to to in stinking cow muck for the rest of the ride. At least as an MTBer I knew to keep my mouth shutSmile
  • 4 1
 @BryceBorlick: Some frames physically cannot accommodate a normal water bottle, or at least not in a practical location.

My mate has a 2017 nukeproof Mega and bodged a bottle carrier onto the top of the top tube, near the saddle. He can ride with it no problem, but I can't friggin stand it! Was constantly bumping my knees off it whenever I tried it out.

The bottle cage issue isn't actually an issue for me anyway becuse I use backpack. Problem solved. Just saying.
  • 1 2
 @Sshredder: sorry didn't mean to negative props,was still lol when I hit it!
????????
  • 7 0
 @BryceBorlick: Not into strap ons.
  • 1 0
 Can't you just mount one under the top tube?
  • 1 0
 @MountainGoatLover: or on the headtube
  • 21 0
 Finally! An affordable bike. Not some $3k over priced 'entry level' from the 'big players'.

I really don't see what to complain about on this, everything is there to get you going for a good while in the sport. RockShox front & rear, NX 1 x 11, dropper post, i29 rims, good tires, shimano brakes.

More of these kind of bikes please! Smile

Why do people assume that just because somebody doesn't want to spend $3k ++ on a bike that they are any less? You can try to overcompensate all you want with your extravagant 'purchases' - I use that loosely as majority put it all on credit - but at the end of the day you'll still fall short, and I'll still have more $$$ in the bank. Prolly have more fun on the trails too LoL
  • 8 1
 No dropper post. Just internal routing for one. Smile
  • 2 0
 @Poulsbojohnny: I had presumed it was included as they claimed to have addressed all suggested upgrades. Upon closer inspection of the included images I can see it has a std post. Not a deal breaker IMO, as the MSRP is priced so well an extra $150 - $200 on a dropper wouldn't hurt a bit.
  • 8 0
 Add a brandx dropper and maybe a yari for 200-300 more and thatd be pretty solid. Slippery slope tho...
  • 4 0
 Some of the best riders I have seen on the trails are riding cheap or old bikes. They simply don't care about how they look or what all the "bros" think of them, they just ride.
  • 2 0
 @BryceBorlick: Yes about that slippery slope, but having a decent fork is a must. The budget ones aren't meant to be ridden hard day in and day out, and cheaper than a Yari simply won't last a season.
  • 1 0
 @hamncheez: my suntour duro was still working fine after years of riding
  • 1 0
 Totally agree with what your saying. Why pay more when this is around. One of my mates got the V1 Bossnut just over a year ago, his brother poo poo'ed the idea because it was to cheep and he had a Bird Aeris. His mind soon changed when he saw the bike in the flesh and rode it. Since then we have had the V2 and now evo and Im thinking of getting one!
  • 1 0
 @hamncheez: Voodoo Bizango with a Suntour Radion fork plugged into the front, gets hammered every weekend in the winter minimum, gets serviced once a year if I think about it, the bike is near 5 years old (I purchased it new) and is smoother now than it was when I first had the bike with no issues. I have a GT Helion with the same Rockshox Recon fork on the front, its 2 years old and the fork has had no service and I've had no issues. So I disagree with what your saying
  • 1 0
 @m1dg3t: "I really don't see what to complain about on this, everything is there to get you going for a good while in the sport. RockShox front & rear, NX 1 x 11, dropper post, i29 rims, good tires, shimano brakes."
Honestly, you're so out of date, I'm surprised you can still ride. Obviously, what you've listed are the problems. Rockshox is acceptable, but only Pike or Lyrik, preferably RCT3. Fox Factory is better, but if you actually want to ride, you need something like Push/Vorsprung/Cane Creek/DVO. And NX 1x11? Please. It should be XO1 1x12. It doesn't actually have a dropper post, which is an absolute deal breaker. Rims must be ENVE, tires are worthless unless they're high-end Maxxis, and brakes must be XT or Code. And please try to keep it under 30 lbs, and around the same price. Don't forget the quiver-killing climbing/descending prowess. And don't forget to include all of the new standards. Oh, and change the stickers on that thing. The name makes me think of the dollar store. An elitist name will impress all of my friends. Seriously bro. Get with the times, Grandpa. This Bossnut might as well be an E-fat bike. Wink *Joking rant over*

 THIS is affordable. Not a poorly specced $3000 big brand bike.
  • 21 0
 This. Is it incredible? No. Will it get the job done? Absolutely. The industry needs more of this.
  • 4 0
 They had thier new bike that's coming out later this year at the London Bike Show. The BBB is the replacement for the Beastnut which they only made 250 of. It is a 140 travel bike with more agresive geo and a bit better spec and will reatail for £1399. Looked like an incredible bike for the money
  • 3 0
 Have one.. amazing bike!
  • 7 1
 Would be unbelievable if they'd of just added a cheapo cable dropper post - solid choice either way
  • 4 0
 Same price here. www.asama-bike.com/zing-en

Pretty competitive spec, great geometry and has a bottle mount inside the FT. Good to see more good products on that segment.

 I have a beastnut... slightly longer revelation fork and improved kit But same frame...and i love it!!! Easily as good as a £4000 trek slash i rode a few years ago... amazing bikes. So much fun descending and not a bad climber to boot!!
  • 2 0
 IMO I think this is a great beginners bike, NX 1 x 11, that is what some 3-4 K have! I remember when i stared to mountain bike sure as hell i did not have the money to buy a 3k or 2k bike new or used. This will make more affordable to start riding which is fun whether is 1k or 5k bike.

 This is a great option. Most people need time to accumulate recreation money, buy this ride ride ride, as something breaks or wears, upgrade. Just upgrade with good components over time, sram and shimano get clearanced out like everything else. The model on the webpage has nx 1x11 , this one has durox bars, wide rims, internal dropper routing, tubeless ready, nice looking frame......can't really stuff anymore into 999gpb bike......and you do not have to worry about every detail, "does this fit, does that fit, boost this, offset that, threaded, non threaded, bsa, blah blah blah" like when you are piecing a bike together.

 Would be a great bike for a beginner to swing a leg over.

 Idk guys, $1k will get you a pretty sweet pre-owed ride on this site! I would go that route all day.

 Hey pb why no spec list? I guess 1000 dollar bikes don't get the same treatment as big name expensive bikes. What did it take you all of 30 seconds to slap this article together.

 Because this isn't a Pinkbike article... it's a press release... as the header of the article states. Full specs and a rather detailed review (by Pinkbike) can be found here: www.pinkbike.com/news/calibre-bossnut-v2-review.html

 @mhoshal: Be that as it may, the review was current at the time it was published by Pinkbike. Updated specs should have been provided by the author of this article which coincidentally, is also the manufacturer of the bike.

 Shipping to the US?? Looks like this is blocked on the GO Outdoors site. What gives?
  • 2 0
 And how much are paid the little chinese hands that build that thing?
  • 3 0
 Legitimate question. Having said that, many of the bigger brands selling similar bikes at 3 or 4 times the price also get their bikes produced in similar conditions in the Far East, except with even bigger profit margins...
  • 2 0
 Sweet ride
  • 2 1
 needs to loose the seat triangle for a decent length dropper
  • 4 3
 Let's put an end to the $10k bike!!! This is great
  • 8 0
 Nah fuck that, there is room for both. 10k bikes for people who want to spend 10k. It gives the companies room and freedom to spend more on development of new tech which can trickle down. If the only bikes are budget bikes then there is no room in the budget to try new stuff.
  • 1 0
 @Patrick9-32: I should have been more specific, the trend of $8~10k bikes needs to stop. It seems like the industry ballooned prices over the last decade completely unchecked. I like the budget builds as they force a correction towards more sane resource management.
  • 1 0
 If you only have 1k if be buying used.

 why is there a 68 HA on the ladies but a 66.5 on the mens?

 999£ for this ??!

for the same price you got yoursel a 2-3 year-old top of the range 6K bike... --> buy smart !!!
  • 3 2
 used or new?
  • 9 0
 @Asmodai: ultra-new of course
  • 8 0
 Buy smart/knackered. Bet this winds up being much cheaper over a five year ownership.
  • 5 1
 @Asmodai: second hand in perfect consition!
  • 2 0
 @gkeele: I don't know about that, a lot of bike components don't break unless your unlucky I've got loads of old cranks, bars, wheels etc that are fine. If you buy used you'll have to replace bearings sooner and service suspension sooner but not a major cost considering how much of a better bike you can get.

  • 9 6
 @Asmodai: spend your money how you want.. but pay $$$ to own a new bike with shit components is really dumb.
  • 1 1
 @RedBurn:

i wouldn't buy a bike with shitty components, i would rather wait

and for people with tight budget i think this is better option than buying used
  • 3 0
 Every time I look at used bikes I find pricing and specs that I can beat or almost beat with a careful new purchase. People try to act like their clapped out used frames are worth 80% of retail after 2 seasons riding Whistler bike park. If I am getting suspension and a dropper that needs service, brakes that need pads and bleeds, bearings that need to be replaced, and drivetrains that need new chains and cassettes, then I better be getting a hell of a deal. I keep seeing 2014 complete bikes listed for $3000 to $4000. For hundreds less I could get a well specced YT/Canyon/etc that has a warranty and brand new fully functioning components all around.
  • 1 0
 Shop smart, shop S-Mart!
  • 1 0
 Pinkbike should do a decent "buy a second hand bike" article. All my bikes are second hand.
  • 1 0
 @zoobab2: all my bikes are too, it’s so damn better!
  • 2 0
 @RedBurn: You can't beat the pricing. Most riders do a season (they buy it new in October just after Eurobike) and they sell it the next year at the same season. The bike has ridden a season (remove winter till March), and the bike is already at half of its original price.
