Calibre Bikes Announces Spec Updates to £999 Full-Suspension Bossnut - Video

 Best bit is if your military, emergency services etc (and have a blue light card or that other forces one), you get a further 10% off!! Check that first but its the case with everything else. £898 bike is better than a £999 bike!!

 @dudee47: Nukeproof Mega frameset is £1599 on crc. Bird Aeris frameset is £1100. Airdrop is £999 with a shock so fairplay that's the same price as this entire FS bike. Alutech is 1099euros which is probably a hair under a £1000 by the time you've paid an exchange rate, been charged for a non gbp transaction and shipping to the UK.

This calibre is crazy, crazy value. It's difficult to name a frame you can buy for less. There might be one or two but there barely are.

 @tom666: Ah, come on. 1099 euro (Alutech ICB2.0 raw without shock) plus 33.95 shipping to the UK makes 1132.95. That should be 1000.37GBP today. I'd say it is a good option, even if it is way beyond the 1kGBP limit. But it really depends on what you look for in a frame. I prefer my toptubes nice and low and that respect I think the ICB2.0 is great. Those who look for a frame with bottle mounts should indeed opt for a different frame. But that doesn't make one frame more "decent" than the other, just a matter of preference.

In short, yes you can get a decent (or actually, pretty good) FS frame for 1000GBP. But the way it fits you is really important too. To me it would be even more important than squat, jack, drivetrain efficiency, axle path and everything else that goes with proper armchair engineering. So for this Calibre frame, the high top tube would put me off no matter how cheap it is.

I remember one *ROAD* ride when I lived in Devon where we went flying down a road (nicknamed "cow p1ss lane", we were told just seconds before we found out why), which was 10cm deep in fresh steaming for about 50 metres... Apart from the group regulars who were in the know and had brought their winter bikes with fenders, the other 7 or 8 of us had our lycra covered head to to in stinking cow muck for the rest of the ride. At least as an MTBer I knew to keep my mouth shut

 @BryceBorlick: Some frames physically cannot accommodate a normal water bottle, or at least not in a practical location.

My mate has a 2017 nukeproof Mega and bodged a bottle carrier onto the top of the top tube, near the saddle. He can ride with it no problem, but I can't friggin stand it! Was constantly bumping my knees off it whenever I tried it out.

The bottle cage issue isn't actually an issue for me anyway becuse I use backpack. Problem solved. Just saying.

 @Poulsbojohnny: I had presumed it was included as they claimed to have addressed all suggested upgrades. Upon closer inspection of the included images I can see it has a std post. Not a deal breaker IMO, as the MSRP is priced so well an extra $150 - $200 on a dropper wouldn't hurt a bit.

 Add a brandx dropper and maybe a yari for 200-300 more and thatd be pretty solid. Slippery slope tho...

 Some of the best riders I have seen on the trails are riding cheap or old bikes. They simply don't care about how they look or what all the "bros" think of them, they just ride.

 @BryceBorlick: Yes about that slippery slope, but having a decent fork is a must. The budget ones aren't meant to be ridden hard day in and day out, and cheaper than a Yari simply won't last a season.

One of my mates got the V1 Bossnut just over a year ago, his brother poo poo'ed the idea because it was to cheep and he had a Bird Aeris. His mind soon changed when he saw the bike in the flesh and rode it. Since then we have had the V2 and now evo and Im thinking of getting one!

 @hamncheez: Voodoo Bizango with a Suntour Radion fork plugged into the front, gets hammered every weekend in the winter minimum, gets serviced once a year if I think about it, the bike is near 5 years old (I purchased it new) and is smoother now than it was when I first had the bike with no issues. I have a GT Helion with the same Rockshox Recon fork on the front, its 2 years old and the fork has had no service and I've had no issues. So I disagree with what your saying

Honestly, you're so out of date, I'm surprised you can still ride. Obviously, what you've listed are the problems. Rockshox is acceptable, but only Pike or Lyrik, preferably RCT3. Fox Factory is better, but if you actually want to ride, you need something like Push/Vorsprung/Cane Creek/DVO. And NX 1x11? Please. It should be XO1 1x12. It doesn't actually have a dropper post, which is an absolute deal breaker. Rims must be ENVE, tires are worthless unless they're high-end Maxxis, and brakes must be XT or Code. And please try to keep it under 30 lbs, and around the same price. Don't forget the quiver-killing climbing/descending prowess. And don't forget to include all of the new standards. Oh, and change the stickers on that thing. The name makes me think of the dollar store. An elitist name will impress all of my friends. Seriously bro. Get with the times, Grandpa. This Bossnut might as well be an E-fat bike. *Joking rant over*

 Legitimate question. Having said that, many of the bigger brands selling similar bikes at 3 or 4 times the price also get their bikes produced in similar conditions in the Far East, except with even bigger profit margins...

 Nah fuck that, there is room for both. 10k bikes for people who want to spend 10k. It gives the companies room and freedom to spend more on development of new tech which can trickle down. If the only bikes are budget bikes then there is no room in the budget to try new stuff.

 @Patrick9-32: I should have been more specific, the trend of $8~10k bikes needs to stop. It seems like the industry ballooned prices over the last decade completely unchecked. I like the budget builds as they force a correction towards more sane resource management.

 @gkeele: I don't know about that, a lot of bike components don't break unless your unlucky I've got loads of old cranks, bars, wheels etc that are fine. If you buy used you'll have to replace bearings sooner and service suspension sooner but not a major cost considering how much of a better bike you can get.

and for people with tight budget i think this is better option than buying used

 Every time I look at used bikes I find pricing and specs that I can beat or almost beat with a careful new purchase. People try to act like their clapped out used frames are worth 80% of retail after 2 seasons riding Whistler bike park. If I am getting suspension and a dropper that needs service, brakes that need pads and bleeds, bearings that need to be replaced, and drivetrains that need new chains and cassettes, then I better be getting a hell of a deal. I keep seeing 2014 complete bikes listed for $3000 to $4000. For hundreds less I could get a well specced YT/Canyon/etc that has a warranty and brand new fully functioning components all around.

 @RedBurn: You can't beat the pricing. Most riders do a season (they buy it new in October just after Eurobike) and they sell it the next year at the same season. The bike has ridden a season (remove winter till March), and the bike is already at half of its original price.
