PRESS RELEASE: Ride Concepts

We have formed our 2019 Factory Athlete team, comprised of downhill and freeride icons Kyle Strait, Sam Pilgrim, Greg Watts and the Atherton Racing team.

Managing the team is two-time Crankworx Slopestyle champ Paul Basagoitia. “We are thrilled to announce such a solid Factory team in our first year,” said Basagoitia. “Each athlete has genuinely chosen Ride Concepts for footwear on and off the bike. We are making a home for athletes who lay it all on the line.”

Strait, a two-time Red Bull Rampage champion, stated “I’ve had other opportunities for footwear in the past but none have excited me as much as Ride Concepts.” Strait will compete in numerous disciplines at Crankworx Rotorua.

Pilgrim will focus on content for his popular YouTube channel as well as putting his feet into several urban DH races. “I received a message from the legend Paul B asking if I wanted to try a new brand and soon I received my new favorite riding shoe, the Wildcat,” stated Pilgrim. They have the support and grip I needed with extra design features like D30 impact protection.”

“When I met the Ride Concepts crew, I knew this was a rad company,” said Watts. “When passion for the sport comes before a profit, it makes for a great product. They delivered right off the get-go!" Watts will compete at all Crankworx stops and film for his web series, Watt’s Happening.

Finally, Atherton Racing - Dan, Gee, and Rachel Atherton as well as Millie Johnset and Charlie Hatton - will complete their kits with Ride Concepts footwear. Rachel has been instrumental in the development of the women’s Traverse clipless model. “I am so fussy about shoes, being one of only two contact points to the bike,” she said. “I’ve always struggled with fit, but the Traverse fits incredibly well, requiring no “quirky tricks” to start shredding.” The team will compete across the UCI DH World Cup Series and select Crankworx and Red Bull events.

Look for Factory Athlete signature models and colors dropping throughout the season.

We are a rider-owned mountain biking footwear company based in Truckee, CA. The Session series of flat pedal shoes is available now in dealers and online while Flow and Launch series shoes arrive this spring. For more information, visit www.rideconcepts.com and @ridecncpts.

The Vans era ended long ago.

@Boardlife69: He was wearing them last year while I drank his free beer at the Sea Otter. Old Skool lowtops If memory serves. Seems like a long time ago, but an era is a long time as well a Vans.

My heart is broken but I'm still gonna rock my Vans Old Skool on every ride until it dies..then I'll get another one..

@endlessblockades: I mean the Vans era when they were bought out by the (VF?) corporation. They went from the best snowboard boots money can buy to straight trash in that one year alone and have never been back. Tried skating in Vans today? Trash. Sure they still look cool, but the quality is trash.

@Boardlife69: I skate like trash and they work fine for me. The ultracush insole on the Pro models are killer. I wear Vans every day, to every meeting at work and on nearly every MTB ride except for the gnarliest DH racing when I'll run my 5.10 Danny MacAskills. That was the MTB content but I came her to say that if you were ever a serious skater, you'll know what a loss the Phelper's death was yesterday. #RIPJAKEPHELPS

 Leaving Vans is dumb.

 You mean Sam "e-bike" pilgrim?
  • 56 3
Ya. He's repping the Ride Concepts e-shoe. They walk for you, but you still have to wiggle your toes because they are only toe-assist. Wink

@weebleswobbles Have you got nothing better to do?
  • 1 1
@spinthoselegs: better to do than what?
  • 2 0
Yeah, those 13’s better run large or the big guys ain’t gonna wear em.

Got an image for Ride to help sell the big sizes:

Big guys, big shoes, big ride!

What sells a shoe? Visibility, and ain’t nothin’ more visible than a big guy wearing done big shoes Smile

I've worn plenty of Five 10s, and every shoe fits differently (I've worn everything from a 9-10.5 in shoes that fit my feet right). I am a true Size 10 shoe in everything else, and the Ride Concepts 10 fits like a 10. Enough room to not cut off circulation, but snug enough to have a solid 1:1 foot to pedal feel while riding. Best riding shoe I've worn.

@RideConcepts As you're working with a few British riders, any news on a UK availability / distro? My 5.10's died last ride (right instep tore away from the sole) and am now looking for new shoes that can stand up to classic UK weather abuse

Hey @ROOTminus1, we are in the final stages of locking down the UK. You can expect to see our shoes on the shelves of your local bike shop sometime in May.

Got a high top coming? 5/10 Impacts seem to be weaker each year. 1st pair lasted 4 years! All pairs after that go away in 1 season! Kinda addicted to high tops though!

Wildcat available meow. Launch available Spring-ish. Both mid's. Both dialed.

Are these available in Canada? No dealer info and online store is USA only..

If Pilgrim endorses the shoes, then I'm sold.
  • 1 0
@Naturel: no, but I am missing the same tooth as Sam so there's that.
  • 1 0
Cool concept but worthless for me in the end... Like most new shoe companies. No size 14
  • 1 1
HAS NO ONE NOTICED THAT THEY ARE ALL FLATS!!!!!???? So dope to see all of Atherton Racing on non clip pedals. Or are you guys making custom lipless for pro riders?
  • 1 0
There's a clip pedal shoe available, plus it says they're making athlete signature models so there's probably going to be an Atherton sig clip shoe
  • 1 0
Everyone else just read the article where they said they will be riding on a to be released clipless.
  • 1 0
