Video: Thomas Vanderham & Wade Simmons Ride Rocky Mountain's New eMTBs

Oct 28, 2021 at 12:16
by Rocky Mountain

A family camping trip offered the perfect opportunity for Wade Simmons and Thomas Vanderham to test out their new Powerplays. Wade went the distance, exploring the rugged Rocky Mountain alpine on his Instinct Powerplay, while Thomas pushed his Altitude Powerplay to warp speed, hammering corners and sending every double that laid in front of him. All while saving time to hit the links, search for some trout, and get some quality family time in.

bigquotesI've been a believer in our Powerplay bikes from the beginning, and my mind is still racing with all the possibilities they can bring when out on the trail. Our latest version has immense power, massive battery capacity, and has inspired me to ride further and push harder in challenging terrain. I love that the battery is removable and that the Jumbotron top tube displays all the info you’d need and more. Bring on the next generation – and the next ride!Wade Simmons

If the Godfather of Freeride Mountain biking is excited about the possibilities provided by ebikes, its will only be a matter of time before the Luddites come around or get tired of whining about what other people find enjoyable. Ride whatever makes you happy.

 Exactly! Well said !!!

They're legends because they can do just about anything and look rad doing it. You should watch the episode of The Fifty where a bunch of legends ski the Sickle and do it on blades and make it look sick af lol. Can't wait for your takeaway from that, please comment on the vid. Also look up a vid explaining false equivalence while youre at it.

@AB805: Thanks for saying that! I just bought the Specialized SL and love it, I can go farther and walk less uphill, some have balked at me, but hey, it's my ride

the problem aint the bikes. its some of the a holes that ride them. yell at me to get out of your way immediately? best believe im not stopping to help with your broken bike when you ask if i have tools 5 minutes later.

Super inspiring. It’s been too long since I’ve been to the BC interior, camping, and hanging out with friends!

 Yep, Revelstoke is amazing
  • 1 0
@slickwilly1: Is that where this riding is? I think those that don't know would like to.
  • 3 1
This is technically East Revelstoke, is it not? @slickwilly1
  • 3 0
 @slickwilly1: my thoughts exactly.
Revelstoke rules
  • 4 1
 @slickwilly1: Ya its definitely revy.
  • 9 1
@mrgazoo: it's golden. Loads of footage was taken from the summit and race run off of Mount 7, the big exposed slopes were from kicking horse, and the rest was canyon creek
  • 5 2
 @slickwilly1: Actually it's Red Deer!!!
  • 3 1
 @Nathanrhansen: nah. not convinced.
  • 1 0
@Nathanrhansen: thanks dude. I live here.... that one went right over your head eh.
  • 3 1
@Nathanrhansen: This is Kansas, for those who haven't had the chance to go there, you should check it out.
  • 2 0
@mtnfriend: Technically yes you are correct, but we don't need to get too granular with it... It is in the Revelstoke region

Looks amazing but feel a bit bad for Wade and Thomas and their fams. Looks like this was filmed during the summer where there was a lot of wildfires and smoke in the area. Hope they didn't feel the effects of it too much, cuz it was sure thick here in the Thompson - Nicola region. :-(

I feel like cost is going to be increasingly the only reason most people don't have an e-bike. Hard to wage a battle for the moral high ground when these rippers just huck over it with a huge grin on their face.
  • 6 4
It's just a matter of time I'd say. Much like cell phones. While each company had their flagship $2000+ device that does everything short of wiping your ass, most companies now are providing more cost effective flagship models. Samsung is a perfect example of this. It might be a while, and I would expect exiles to cost more in relative to their non "E" counterparts, but eventually I believe accessibility of these bikes will get better. Especially as the consumer industry sees growth. Technology will develop too, and old tech will trickle down.

Cool story bro. I’d rather take up fencing.

Bringing an E-bike to the big outdoors, Day 2: Where the f**k do I charge this thing!?
This whole feel-good-camping-trip marketing is some major league bulls**t. But I suppose it sells bikes.
  • 8 1
You charge with your Rivian or F150 lightning truck
  • 7 0
I have solar panels on my campervan, a converter and big batteries. So I can do two or three big rides until I need to find a power outlet.
  • 8 4
@KalkhoffKiller: I have a Honda Civic that cost less than a pay cheque and I can just throw my bike in the back of that and ride anywhere and not think about electricity. Hell, I can throw my bike in a river and not care Wink
  • 3 0
@wallheater: the thing with Ebikes in alpine environments is that you can ride up stuff that you normally would have to push or carry your bike for hours. I simply can do tours with it that I couldn't do with an acoustic bike in a day.
  • 12 2
@KalkhoffKiller: I have nothing against ebikes but everything against calling a bike an acoustic bike.
  • 8 2
This would make for the BEST show! Simmons and Vanderham; camping, fishing, golfing, shredding together, are you kidding me? Someone pitch this to a network ASAP

Don't exactly know where Revelstoke appears in the video Smile (maybe its somewhere), but definitely saw a lot of Golden, BC (Mt 7, Kicking Horse, Canyon Creek in particular) All good, great scenery.

I had the pleasure of riding the Shore with Wade a couple times back in the late 90's. Crazy to see him still at the top of the sport. He was a mad man back in the day. I suspect his riding is still insane. Great video. I miss riding in BC.

"A family camping trip offered the perfect opportunity for Wade Simmons and Thomas Vanderham to test out their new Powerplays"

Hum, I think they meant : "Filming the new advertsing of the new powerplay gave Simmons and Vanderham the opportubity to go on a camping trip" haha?.
  • 8 4
cool advert......still not buying one though but that was a cool vid.
  • 4 0
Thanks for shouting out East Revy...

Raw, eBikes are the future! I have solar panels on my camper and a portable power supply. Charging on the move is easy enough once you get into the flow.
  • 3 0
Nice to see that Wade & I share the same hockey inspired golf swing.
  • 2 0
Q- What does moutain biking and golf have in common?
A - absolutely nothing except an excuse for leisurely time.
  • 3 1
I love watching Vanderham ride a bike.

Also, great soundtrack—Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever—so good!!!!
  • 3 1
Feels so good watchin these two legends of the sport. Wanna see em on a big bike once again!!!
  • 1 0
Vanderham has such good style. Both still shredding hard. I see the point now, e-bike = carry a couple extra beers to the summit.
  • 2 0
Old dogs CAN learn new tricks!
  • 1 3
I think Vanderham and Simmons are (in this video) only riding at 50% of what they are capable of. So every avarage Joe will go: “I can do that, I can ride like Wade”. They buy the bike, see Wade on the trails and realise they’ve been suckered by the RM marketing departement. Haha

Which rocky intern is watching the kids while the dads for a rip?
  • 1 0
Love the nature there. Dreaming of living in Vancouver, BC once life turns out okay.
  • 2 1
 How was the fishing though?
  • 1 1
 Why were the formulas backwards?
E=MC^2, but they would have written it MC^2=E!!!!
Thats just wrong
  • 4 3
Then afterwards they rode their really enjoyable bikes.
  • 1 0
Beautiful smokey summers of the east koots! Lol
  • 2 1
I remember him saying 29 is future. Now it's ebike.
  • 1 0
Doesn't it kind of look like this was shot during fire season?
  • 2 0
 Ebikes are for golfers?
  • 2 3
If a non-ebike plays golf he walks. An ebike will utilize the cart…
  • 1 0
If any one wants to go for a walk they take their dog, not a bag of sticks?
  • 7 8
No matter who is riding an ebike , I won’t buy one.
  • 9 2
Just like full suspension, wide bars, and 1x drive trails. Never say never……
  • 6 2
Yeah, we got it the first time you posted this same comment here. I don’t plan on buying a DH bike any time soon, but see how I don’t have to bitch and moan whenever I see someone on a DH bike?
  • 2 3
@rockyflowtbay: well, I was an early adopter of all those things, still I won’t buy an ebike.
  • 2 5
 @shagolagal: you don’t get it , don’t you?
  • 4 7
Imagine buying these over a motorbike when you've got thousands of miles of ATV/moto trails where you can go faster, further....
  • 11 1
It's almost as if one can enjoy a specific thing, like, say, bicycling. Myself, I love skiing and skitouring in the mountains, but I also like snowmobiles. I must be crazy

@SimbaandHiggins: you do you. I'll keep enjoying the best worlds of motors and pedal power rather than a hacked up in between.
  • 6 2
@atrokz: “you do you”. That’s right. Maybe you should try taking your own advice?
  • 2 4
@shagolagal: I do. Lmao. I don't use a motor on bike trails and I have other things that are much faster with motors. Moot point there bud. Keep crying.
  • 5 8
 Hahaha ..no.
