Interview: Dr. Chris Leatt on the Neck Brace, Collarbone Breaks, Safety Over Fashion & More
I bet its all parents buying them for their kids. I rarely see younger kids on moto or at the bike park without them. DH bikes are now available for kids and i guarantee the average age at which kids are getting into the sport is getting younger and younger. Im going to make my nieces/nephews and future kids wear them if they want to ride a DH bike or moto, but then again im reluctant from letting them ever touch a moto or DH bike in the first place for as long as i can...

Furthermore, Id add that with that found fitness you slowly build a familiarity with your equipment and an ability to repair something when it fails. Flat tires, snapped chain, transmission failure... I've come across several riders on emtb who had simple problems and were way out in areas they shouldnt have been. They either didnt have tools/equipment needed or didnt know how to fix regardless. Im not saying this doesnt already happen with regular bikes, but i feel emtbs will make this worse. Also not being prepared with food, water, first aid, a phone or way to reach out for help, familiarity with local wildlife and what to do if they try to eat you etc... These are learned skills and knowledge that many of us might take for granted as they come second nature to us.

5 Bikes Stolen From Adam Brayton in Overnight Break In
@mtbswindler: death to all thieves @scotttherider: ive always wanted to bait people with an open garage full of bikes and just be sitting in the back with a shotgun... i dont own a shotgun- and probably a good thing too as i question the legality of this in CA, but it doesnt feel wrong to me.

Update: Brook Macdonald Rides Bike for First Time Since Mont-Sainte-Anne Injury
So im guessing he not only had to have vertebrae fused using titanium rods, but also suffered some nerve damage? I broke my T12 vertabrae and had my L1 to T11 fused with titanium rods. Luckily no nerve damage and i was walking around ICU the day after surgery. They told me 6-12 months to fully heal, but i was fully healed in 3 months. I totally believe that was because i moved from high altitude back to sea level with more oxygen and surplus of red blood cells, plus ive always just healed fast. That was 7 years ago and it hasnt really effected me since in terms of pain, strength, range of motion, or holding me back. Although surgeons did say that where i broke it and fused was the best location because the middle of the back is the least flexible/dynamic part of the spine. The one area it did change me is mentally though especially compared to other major injuries i had suffered. I still do high risk activities, but nowhere near as carelessly as I did before as it definitely opens your eyes as to whats really important to you - like being able to still walk and feel below your waste. Here's hoping Brook can make a similar, swift full recovery both physically and mentally. HANG IN THERE BROOK AND STAY POSITIVE!!!

@jackalope: if you play for real madrid you can pay your own medical bills no problem, and probably take a private jet to see the world's leading specialist in whatever type of injury you have. And then pay for the best in recovery technology such as air chambers and the best rehabilitation. Last time i checked there werent salary caps in european football, which is how you get super teams like Real Madrid

@tobiusmaximum: a brand like redbull has way more money and resources. Regardless if Redbull helps him or not, drinking redbull definitely leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

@loganbeck: LOL. As an engineer who can also ride/race i cant agree more. When it comes to suspension set up I can spend hours reading into the science and theory of the settings and set up, but usually at the end of the day i just twist a bunch of dials till the bike feels good and how i want it to. "how'd it feel?" "i dunno i was going fast af and sending, trying not to crash and die."
