It's nice to see xc getting some attention. There is not enough of it on pinkbike in my opinion.
  • 20 2
Agreed. No coverage of the Cape Epic? what's that about..
  • 11 0
..i know, and why no coverage of the US CUP XCT? that was (is) some kick-ass racing!!!
  • 3 1
Yeah, and why is there never any coverage of XC Eliminator?? Hohohohohoho

XC racing is not the most exciting format to watch, its almost like watching people running a marathon, only exciting the last minute when everyone is about to finish.

I thought XCE was awesome to watch as the riders were going all out (had to) in each round...though some of the courses did suck.

@leondelmonte - you must be nuts. Just youtube some of last year's races... whipping the bumps during the race itself, or burning rubber uphill and literally chewing away the course from those who were ahead of him. It's not because he's Swiss (wink), but because he's fun to watch, just like Marco Aurelio Fontana.
Peace

Sweet! Can't wait for the season to start and watch the battle with Absolon. Good to see they fitted in one of his XC whips in the teaser.

Are all the "webisodes" going to be :28 seconds? I guess that is the best way to keep the attention of the normal Pinkbike reader on XC riding.
  • 19 2
 Nah, they'll generally be longer.
  • 12 1
Sick! Can't wait to watch the battles this year

Indeed, I'm stoked to see teammate Michiel van der Heijden on the WC Elite level. I hope he does well!

Possibly best all round bike rider ever, downhill (research his father), road (research tour de Swiss and tour de Romandie), all mountain (research B. Fairclough) and XC, no research necessary.

 What about Jared Graves?
  • 2 0
Both right up there if you ask me
  • 4 0
You see Jared Graves racing on the road with the big boys???
  • 2 0
John Tomac. He raced track, was a pro roadie in Europe with the big boys. In 1993 he came second in the World Cup XC, AND and second in World Cup DH! In 1991 he podiumed at World Champs in XC (Gold) and DH (silver) in the same year. AFAIK no-one else has done this or even come close.

JT was BMX World Champ too and his son is pro MX
  • 1 0
 but can Nino ride trial?
  • 1 0
After watching that, the answer is 'no'.
  • 9 2
For those not in the know, Nino is the one who you send your Christmas cards to for single-handedly bringing 27.5" tires to the mainstream.
  • 4 1
i bought him a birthday present... cause with those 27.5" wheels he invented ENDURO :-p
  • 3 6
For those not in the know, I'm pretty sure it was Kirk Pacenti who single-handedly brought 27.5" tires to the mainstream.
  • 6 1
Yeah but Nino highlighted their legitness by winning World Cup & Worlds races on them. =D
  • 1 2
Yeah well I knew I would piss-off the fanboys who think that racers are somehow the innovators, thought I would give credit where its actually deserved. Besides I'm pretty sure it was Frishy who suggested to Nino to try the goldilocks size especially since Nino is a bit too small for a 29er. I guess most of you ride tubular MTB tires too eh?
  • 1 0
The difference is that nobody cared about 27.5" until Nino won the world cup in 2012.
  • 1 2
Perhaps, but you bring up the paradox of who won the World Cup--the rider or the equipment? Did Nino win because of the 27.5s or could he have won on a 29er or 26er? I agree that Nino helped legitimize/popularize 27.5s but he wasn't the one being crucified for daring to re-introduce a new wheel size/standard like Pacenti was. I just don't believe in giving the majority of credit to a racer, besides there are plenty of people who couldn't care less about 27.5...believe it or not.
  • 1 0
Real world, its the rider who won. However, from a marketing perspective, people who don't know any better think that the rider only won because he was on that specific equipment - therefore they have to have that specific equipment or they will never be as good. The market shifted directly after Nino's win.

Nino is a great guy and a great ambassador for mountain biking overall. We should see more of this XC stuff here. Very promising teaser with cool effects by the way!
  • 2 0
Presumably they mean you WON'T want to miss out...
  • 1 0
 correct!
  • 3 2

I wonder?
